the only problem is would it actually be something useful?

in interlopper I often light fires but the wind can always change very quickly. With non potable water you have 50% less chance to not have boiled water. I dont think it will be particulary useful but it would be an enjoyable mechanic.

Im only speaking for myself but can see me transporting 10L of unpotable water to my base. i always travel with 20kg in my pack and 25 if i have the 5kg or more bonus. so If i am near my house i will take unpotable water. i am shure it will be useful to other people.

Pot or Recycled can is what you use next to fire source to melt snow to non pot, then boil to potable.

Yes you missunderstood me. once you boiled you water (or only melted it) then you take it, it is not stored in that can or cooking pot it goes directly in your inventory and if you drop that water it will be in a water bottle that magically appeared. if we take water from a cooking pot or can it will cause problems with the actuall system that is why i suggested the other option. wich makes more sense for the long dark to me.

I feel a player should be able to gather non-potable water at water falls based on the size of containers one has, recycled cans or cooking pots.  That way cut the need to have to boil or could just use up those water purifier tabs to make some potable water.  They'd have to be close enough to the waterfall, and thus risking getting their clothes wet or whole body soaked, thus hypothermia risk.  Also, what they wear on their hands should always get soaked, so a smart player remove his gloves before doing so to keep his gloves dry.

Everything is a great idea except the container part. Water isnt collected inside containers, Water bottles appear everytime you start melting water.

so to counter the fact that we could take infinite quantities of water, I suggest that at the second you take water from a waterfall you loose heat really quiclly and you instantly get a frostbite risk that develops very quickly too (something like 25%/L or water and 30% without gloves to punish people who would think they would counter the wetness by taking off their mitts).

I really like the concept you should be able to do that with the fishing holes when open. It would give new opportinities for interlopper and stalker i really liek that ! :)

Produce fire by friction. It is possible but difficult.)) I Think it should not be a separate skill. Not the result of a level 5 fire-making skill. This should be the scripted moment after the island runs out of matches. This is hardcore.

If friction fire one day comes to the game, i think it would be necessairy to decrease the spawn of matches. what do you think?

Hot stones is very interesting. But I think it looks too fantastic for our game. In addition, they will somehow need to be removed from the fire and put in a container. This requires a blacksmith's Blacksmith's tongs. By the way, nothing can be forged without them at the forge. )))

Well There could be a new item that you can forge, this item would help you collect the hot stones. but i dont think it is necessairy. you could just take the rocks with a glove or a cloth with a burning chance. Or you could just put the stones around the fire like we do with the coffee, tea, reishi, rose hip and birch bark tea. and then take them back in the inventory. I dont think being realistic is that important ( with the forgable tool idea) i think just taking hot rocks in inventory would be easier to code.

I also like the idea of a Board game and the idea of drawing. But there is one requirement, you need to do it so that it does not take a lot of time. For example, I find it difficult to keep track of my time. And the main thing is that the process can be stopped and resumed from the point where it stopped.

I like the idea of board games but I am not shure I understand what you mean by stopping the process and resume where it stopped. do you mean like if i have a scrabble in front of me and my letters are: A B Y T G P O then I stop. if I restart I will still have A B Y T G P O etc ? It is fine I use google translate often too :)  What language do you speak?

That's a good idea, the only issue is that it's a lot of work. Having kept the Milton Mail Bag Index up-to-date the issue is that it became a lot of work and that was a much more limited volume given that it was only weekly.

    Two other issues:

    1) there's nothing that's worth talking about that we'd "never do". Even things like co-op which won't be appearing in The Long Dark could be useful topics as they might appear in a future project and it would be useful to have people discuss what they'd like to see.

    2) things change. The Long Dark in 2020 is a different game than The Long Dark was when it first launched. Some of the ideas that fans might have had back then might not be relevant now, but some ones that were less relevant then might be relevant now. While we certainly understand that certain threads keep appearing, requesting something in 2020 (or 2021) that was spoken about in 2018 might suddenly be relevant again.

Overall it's a great idea it's just a question of whether Hinterland does it, and that's a resource/time question, or whether someone else tackles it.

Thanks for your answer. At least that helps to understand your way of thinking :)

This is the "wishlist" part of the forums.  Guess maybe "wish" for all bugs and mechanics to be working 100%?  But that's not really this conversation...  A "wishlist" is what a player would like to see.  Not that he'll ever actually see it generally speaking.  Oh wait, can't say that.  I once "wished" for better tracks in the snow and viola, they happened.

If you know that you idea isn't going to happend in the game why posting it?

and the wishlist isnt just to give ideas it is to discuss about ideas and finding if it is agreat idea or not.

So that the previously suggested "drop backpack" mechanic makes more sense, that you'd still be carrying some of your stuff around with you no matter if you carried that backpack or dropped it.

I feel like we should find fixes for mechanics that dosent work instead of creating new mechanics to complete the mechancs that dosent work. it makes more sense and require less work.

Get better clothes.  Or maybe have belts in the game you could hang stuff off of or holsters for knives, multi tools, and pistols.

Yes but what for? we can already acess everything in the inventory.

  11. Hi, This is not a suggestion for the game itself but for the Wishlist. This week I think I have seen so many post of people requesting the same stuff that it has already been discussed and asked a hundred of times. This is why it would be nice to create a topic wich would always be at the top of the wishlist and that would list all the things that have been discused already A LOT, like multiplayer, sleds, binoculars, dogs and so on. So when we want to add a new idea, we can look at that list. I know we can do a research tab and if wou write for example, Moose: it will show you every topics that the word moose apprear. But there is not a lot of people who use it beacause there is still a lot of NEW topics about multiplayer, sleds etc.

The WDWND idea(what devs will never do :)) Could be a topic that stay on top of the wishlist too. It would be a list of everything that has been requested a few times but that the devs know for shure they will never do like the multiplayer (this one I am 100% shure it will never happen) So people that want to request a new idea that is in that category will know it is useless to request it. now I know that the devs have a list of thing to do that could never happen too, but I am only talking about things that are confirmed it will never happen.

This would make the wishlist cleaner and more interesting for shure :)

    What you think about that?

  12. @Willbonney first i am not shure why you would want that. in the long dark your inventory isnt like any containers (when you put 15kg in a 15kg container you cannot put anything else, but when you put 30kg in your pack you can still easily have 10 or 15 kg more. And at a certain limit you cannot move) Having the "Container inventory" type instead of having The current inventory isnt going to do any good but I am going to weigh the prons and cons.

    Prons:

    - You like it, i guess thats a pron.

    Cons:

-We will globally loose some Kg capacity, if we want to put an axe that weight 1.5kg in our cargo pants pockets that can carry 2kg but we also want to carry 75kg improvised knife i just lost 0.5 kg of space beacause I have to place my knife else where

-Finding something will now take soo long beacause our inventory will be soo messy. And dont say we could have a search bar beacause that would just be discusting and will not help you when you want to just see what you globally have inside you millions of pockets.

-We will no longer use the clothes for they warmth but for they carry capacity. there is not that much clothes with pockets inside, there are like cargo pants, hoodie, every coat (not including the furr ones). There is not that much hot clothes that have pockets if yo uthin kabout the wool sweathers etc etc. Combining the best clothes you can get for their carry capacity : Cargo pants, 2kg x2 + Hoodie 2Kg x2 + Skii Coat , 5kg x2 =  18kg.... so when you are tired you can only carry 9kg...That makes no sense. Thing about interlopper player who will have difficulties finding coats and will have to craft some. their carry capacity would be 8 kg when not tired and 4kg when tired, that makes no sense.

-The work the devs will have to put in that new inventory system would be extremely long (I would guess at least 6 months, but i am not an expert I just basically have an idea of the wotk that needs to be done) and for what? (for the prons listed higher).

-I wouldnt like it, this inventory would be more adapted to games like scum or pubg, not the long dark.

-It would only serve realism (like the backpack) wich is not necessairy. The system we have right now has no issues and work perfectly fine (of course it is my opinion but i am shure many others share the same).

Isn't the temp of buildings always above freezing though? If not then it doesn't make sense how we are getting liquid water from toilets.

Voyager and below it is always positive inside. but on stalker and interlopper you can freeze if there a blizzard outside

Well the water in the tank really isn't that much different from tap water the difference is it sits in a ceramic tank instead of a pipe. Also the disaster in the long dark happened recently so the tank water hasn't been sitting for long, I will agree if it sits for too long I wouldn't drink it as bacteria will grow eventually but if it hasn't been sitting for long, which in the long dark it hasn't, then it's is perfectly safe to drink

Maybe the new type of water that @Mr. 0 is talking about could spawn in water tanks after a certain ammount of days. and then after let say 100 days it become non potable.

"Release the new map that everybody is ansiously waiting? Naaaah, our game is perfect the way it is and doesnt need to get better, let's develop a temporary game mode."

The darkwalker: WHAT A WASTE OF TIME DEVELOPING THIS.

Imagine all the time of development being used for a coop game which you can try to survive alongside your best friend, or create new areas, improve game mechanics, bring new diseases, or even create seasons which i know a lot of people here wants, new animals, new plants, new items, even new fishes to catch, create large traps to help hunt wolves and bears, create a snowsled for you to move areas when you are extremely over weighted, create a binoculars to see the horizon or find that bear you want to hunt. There is a lot more could been done to make this amazing game even better. But no, it was just a waste of time doing this 1.6 gb update. I know a lot of people here liked this game mode and i'm not here to disrespect you anyway, i'm just talking about priorities. Man, come on, put some focus on the development of this game!

I Wonder why every new people on the forums (I am over exagerating a bit) ALL want the same thing... snowsleds, multiplayer, seasons, binoculars. when you are asking for things to put on the wishlist ask yourself if it is really going to make good to the game AND if it is going to be easy or at least not impossible to code. With thate reflection you can easily take off those things of your wishlist

    - seasons (raph said it would at least take 5x the time they took to develop their game to have 4 seasons. Quick maths = 30 years to get 4                                  seasons).

-sleds (they would completely break the weight system and it has been discusses over a million times)

-multiplayer (in a game where you skip time almost everytime you do an action that is not walking, multiplayer would be impossible or SOO hard                           to make that it would not even worth it. and i dont personally feel like it is a necessity or even something nice to bring to the game).

-binoculars, (wouldnt be that useful. there are so many rocks and hills everywhere that it would be uselsess) plus if you play quite a bit you learn                           easily where bears, deers can spawn just by traveling in the game).

Now for you question (not really) why they are not taking time to develop the game instead of making temporary game modes?

Well They are Testing new mechanics when making temporary game modes. this helps having feedback on those features without implementing them permanently in the game and risking to have bad feedback from the community. For example the thing I noted is that they are testing a new affliction that depend on the proximity from you to another object. they are for shure developping the main game during the same time they develop the minigames. Having a different gameplay from the main game some times in the year are absolutely nice you can try and discover new features. Who would not want that? plus you are getting an exclusive new gamemode (the endelss night) if you play that is absolutely fantastic !

I feel like when writting your... unpleasant message you didnt even thaught about the devs that are literally working everyday to add new content from the community as soon as they can. So be patient and enjoy this new gamemode instead of complaining beacause I would highly doubt they will stop making events like that the community are absolutely loving em...

EDIT: Sorry if my message is for some part the same than @ManicManiac I had the notification of a new message while I was writting mine. Apologies (although I absolutely agree to what you said)
