  1. Its really simple. I think that making task like chopping wood breaking branches, gutting an animal, fighting a wolf a bear and running should all give a body heat bonus of about 2 degrees celsius. basically everything thats consumes more calories than walking should give a small temperature bonus.

  2. Yes Its a great idea. We know that grat bear almost depended 100% on the mainland so this kind of industrial zone would really be a plus.

There are train tracks that leads to nowhere planes that crashes into nowhere (maybe beacause airport wasnt added yet and they didnt had enought kerosene to wait for the update) and roads that are conected to industrial zone like whaling and canning industries. So Hinterland where do all the food like Maple Syrup, crackers, dog food PEACHES ! condesed milf and many others come from?

Maybe all that could be integreated in one region: A region that is near the water for the harbour, that has a airport with a couple of markets and houses for the workers. this region could also be conected by road and railway to coastal highway (the only region that has tracks and roads)

  3. i have seen a lot of videos where it shows that fire reflectors do not increase the surrounding warmth (at least wood ones) although it is useful to stop the wind yes. i think it is a great idea. lets say you find a 90 degree aprox rock then you can use that reflector to cover you on a thrird side. I would totally agree to the addition of this structure ! It could also be used in remote regions when we kill a big animal like a bear or a mose and we want to harvest it without getting your fire blown out by the wind. A full moose is a lot of hours a work multiple days even and in hardest difficulties yo ucannot waste a match to light a second fire beacause of the wind so i would totally use that reflector.

  4. I just died in a lack of luck after 25 days interlopper and i used a stim to get a few more minutes of life. i was in muskeg in the middle of a blizzard that blew away my fire. so i used a stim to get to the tracks and hopefully the derailement point where i could have made a fire.

i read there https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/Emergency_stim thats the stim should make you see brighter "the sound of a rapid heartbeat can be heard, and the character's vision gets brighter."

but in that sandbox game i used the stim and were not able to see anything in the dark it was worse that before using it. maybe it is due to the filters mixed with the night and the blizzard but i dont think it should be this way as it can simply lead to death. so here's my proposition: when the stim is used it gives a night vision effet that makes you able to see further than before in the dark for the remaining time of the stamina boost.

Come on. A good idea. Just let's make needles out of fish bones. I think it makes sense to justify this boring activity - fishing. Let not all of them and not always be able to make a game. however, this is in my opinion good. let the first needles break immediately and then not immediately.

Its a bit useless beacause in order to fish you need a fishline wich you can repair stuff with exactly like a sewing kit.

and stick not in the middle of pleassant valley far from the next tree

about that, sticks branches and logs get generated near trees after a blizzard or heavy winds. so i dont see how it is possible xD

  7. @RegentRelic when it comes to the flint knife i dont see it as an object to make the game easier. As we know, we cannot make knives without forge and hammer. but its not that hard to find a hammer and we already know where are the different forges. So i see the flint knife as a way to be able to survive in hushed river valley or ash canyon without the use of modern techniques. And I think that trying to survive with a bone or flint knife IS harder than simply leave a region to fin a hammer and a forge (wich we can totally do). So it is more about giving access to new challenges that are not possible now than making the game easier.

yeah, I understand the compromise between a light-pack and useful tools. but if someone doesn't know every region and the tracks of every wild animal(like me) maybe could come in handy?

Yeah it is true even if i dont use it many other will and it will simply give me a couple of spare scrap metal :)

    The flashlight

I think the flashlight would need an update since it is heavy and we can never use it beacause 9 times on 10 i sleep during auroras and the time where i dont sleep i dont get out beaucause... well experience told me not to do so. So finally 10 times out of 10 i dont use the flashlight.

    the workbench

I think that giving the abillity to place where ever we want a workbench would be problematic. it could create some glitches and exploits problems. although i like the idea to be able to place a workbench anywhere :D

I think that there could be a new type of workbench: the broken worbench. that we need to repair in order to use. Lets say a toolbox + a heavy hammer + 10 scrapmetal + 5 hardwood.  and they would be random through each playthrough.

another idea would be to implement a "flat stone" it is a craftable object that lets you craft everything like on a workbench. it requires 30 stone and 10 cloth. its durability decreases depending of what you craft ; 2 hooks = -1% and a bearskin bedroll = -40% for example. this would fix the problem of the exploits and glitches and it would not be too easy for the players.

  9. It would be nice too to have voices. for example in the game survivng mars there is a radio station that is called red frontier. It is someone that juste talks about mars and earth and sometimes he puts music on the radio BUT he talks between. It would be super exciting to wake up during aurorra you start the radio and then there is a music and you simply wait to hear that guys voice. Then when the aurora ends its just makes you remember how lonely you are in that cold and hostile world

    • Possibility to create (example: workbench + reclaimed wood) shelves and some storage(maybe only inside buildings again to not break the game). Again could be also considered a realistic action that not would change the game.
    • Introduce binoculars. I think TLD is a survival game with quite deep exploration mechanics. So a binocular could come in handy during hunting or preventing bad encounters. Again I don't think would change the purpose of the game but maybe make it user friendly and realistic?!
    • Maybe change the mechanics of the flashlight. I don't think the flashlight working during an aurora can be considered so realistic. Maybe leaving the flashlight near a socket inside a building during an aurora could make it charging and using it could make it discharge. (Think this is silly compared with other modifications from Aurora)
    • Add more specialized feasts: like archery or hunting with rifle or fishing instead of "Book Smarts" ( so become more like "Fire Master"). Thus a player could do more personal runs through the game. Maybe different levels of specialization. So skill<-> feasts.
    • Please, please let us have a little character customization. Just a bunch of faces, color/type of hair/eyes, body sizing(just for appearance). This make player thinks about the game in a more personal way, like empathizing more with the character they are playing.

    I think # 1 2 and 5 are very good ideas

although i dont think # 3 and 6 are necessairy

First bonoculars add weigh to your pack and i am one of those who like to travel ultralight. i dont see the point beacause i already know most of the regions by heart.  maybe a good addition for pilgrim and voyager players but I wouldnt make anything of it.

For the character customization i dont see how it could be useful we basically never see our character.

  11. I totally agree loot tables need some tweaks although i do not think that making them more "random" would be the solution. i wouldn't want to find a weapon to often or the opposite : never. if we rely on complete randomness sometimes we could even be able to find 2 rifles in the same region in one playthtrough and none in another. i think that loot tables are perfectly balanced for survival and we are always happy to find some rare loot.

so the solution could be to completely change the loot tables but stay with the same system. as @Sito said, he has 3000 or so hours of play wich is a lot and i totally believe you know all the loot tables. so the solution could be to simply every once  in a while change the loot tables completely to give a sense of randomness and keep the interest  of exploration in new playthroughs.

  12. I remember a coulpe of times where i played interlopper and ran out of food. but i always had a whooole bunch of reishi mushrooms rose hips, tea and coffe around to craft into drinkables. and those saved my life. every cup of anything gives you 100 cal. so with a lot of cups i were often able to survive long enough to reach another reagion and get more food. Thoses situations made me thinking. Why dont we have more complex recipies with the rose hips, mushrooms and meat ?

    - also not to mention that we always get a whole lot of these drinkable medicines and personally i never hurt myself enought to drink them all  :D

I would love to see some improvements about the food that we eat and more variety. and here are some examples of small improvements that could be vital:

#1, 1x reishi + 2x raw wolf meat or 2x bear meat = 2x Prepared reishi and meat stew. We all know that you can get parasites while eating predator meat even if its cooked. so this recipie prevent the parasites.

#2, 2x cat tail stalk + 1 reishi + 8 rose hips = Vegetarian salad. 500 cals, easy to make on the go requires no cooking and has a better food yield than every ingredients separated.

#3, it would be nice if we could make something out of the guts (another thing that always stack up) 1x cured gut + xyz cooked meat = xyz sausage. it gives a bonus of conservation and of calories. Also eating raw guts could give you 200 cals and a big indigestion.

#4, the addition of a thermos would be a nice addition to help keep the coffee and tea warm longer.

#5, being able to heat up water and get a warming bonus

#6 Anything you could find useful or nice is welcome please send you suggestions ;) cheers !

  13. Yes for shure i would like one or two more Arrow types but not 5.

I dont think the wood type is necessairy beacause it would simply be uselles (rocks already kill rabits and they require n ocraft) neither the stone one as it would require a whole new branch of skill and would do the same as a metal one + it is too easy to get and too much reusable.

For the bone one I would make it break with the shaft the first time. and it should be craftable without a workbench (only a tool box or a knife) and it should make less damage and will not make animals bleed out entirely if you did not shot at the right place.

For the glass one i think it is a good idea. Although it should break the tip instantly if you miss your shot.

I think both primitive bone and stone tools are obvious low tier tools, ie needle, hooks, arrow heads, knife, axe.  Either could be simply made with a work bench so no to make the game to easy.  But, as it’s already been mentioned, they would would not be repairable or sharpened and have efficiency and use limitations.

These tools would help out new players getting ready for more difficult settings and stalker/interloper players survive in more desolate regions.

I dont think bone tools should be craftable on a workbench. the objective is to be able to craft tools even if you start in a far region like ash canyon or hushed river valley. i remember when i started playing: Crafting objects was very easy. i think the crafting system is intuitive enough. and besides that, before having a wapon to hunt it is going to be hard to find bones to make tools. yes rabbit bones could make needles but you dont harvest a deer with a needle. you will have to find a dead deer or make a wolf hunt one for you to get his bones wich is going to be hard at the beginning.

  15. I totally agree and mostly about sprains situation. when you get a sprain you should be walking slower + pain etc. If you apply a bandage after a sprain you should be able to  walk normally but not to run until it is healed. it would make more sense.

Or just remember what each spawn looks like or have  the ability to tell each of the very distinct regions apart. Also being lost at the beginning is kind of the point. Hinterland wants to give you a time where you don't know where you're going, you don't how your going to survive. When all that you know is that must survive. Not to mention that sense of relief you get when you stumble onto a familiar patch of wilderness.

yes that is the point. thats why i think we should no longer be able to know where we are by looking at the map (at the beggining of a sandbox game

As far as I know, there are no custom options for any of the challenges.  I think it would be nice if future challenges had difficulty options or custom options were implemented into modes like Darkwalker and such.

That or better yet I would like to see options that were centered around having only one region inhabitable and the rest constant blizzards or something, with maybe a feat that started you out immediately with a magnifying lens and arrowheads or something so we could dedicate ourselves to one region entirely with no need to go elsewhere.

I agree with @ManicManiac about your first idea. altough, I believe it would be a nice toutch if we could customise our playtrough's more with the custom options. as i talked in another topic of wich i forgot the name, being able to decide what you spawn with (and what dosent spawn in the game), the duraion of the day and night (separately) , the average world coldness ( in degrees) , the aurora spawn chances and so on. to be able to make cahotic and unpredictable possibilities and pushing the game's difficulty to its maximum.

  18. When you start a new playtrough, you spawn in the middle of nowhere yo udont know where you are but you can simply open the map with ¨m¨ and it will tell you in the up right corner.

it would a nice tweak if it wasnt there at the beginning. like it tells you that you are in pleasant valley only if you found a specific place that is only in pleasant valley or if you draw with a charcoal an area of the map.

Hopefully it doesn't use the stupid steam workshop. I hate that crap.

its true that steam workshop isnt very good for some things but it groups all comunity work together and that is a plus. of course having a hinterland launcher for mods would be great

We've previously said that working on a system of mod support is something that is a goal for the team. What we would like to have is a way for modders to create mods, and share them and an easy way for players to install them while knowing that installing a mod will not adversely affect their game, or system. That is something we need to figure out on our end, how we want that system to work and our goals with it.

So we agree that allowing players to mod their own games is a goal, at this point without official mod support we are unable to offer any form of technical support on modded games. Thus installing a mod risks not only breaking your game in some way, but also won't get support from our team to fix it. While there are people who know enough to be able to break their game and fix it on their own, a large percentage of players don't have that sort of technical skill.

Thus we do not support, or promote, existing mods on our channels. People have created mods for The Long Dark, we don't stop them from doing that but we don't allow for them to be promoted here. Also another issue is the game is still under active development, and so we may update the game in some way that breaks existing mods without intending to. This has happened in the past.

So we understand that people are anxious to see mods, but we ask everyone to be patient with us while we work things out.

    Its good to hear !

  21. I think the addition of bones and scrap metal tools would be a nice addition to the game especially for interlopper and stalker players.

Bones could be harvested from dead animals to make 2 or 3 simple tools for example :

    - bone needle can be crafted with a rock and rabbits bones (basically smashing the bones with the rock to make a small and sharp needle) no workbench would be required.

the bone needle can then be crafted into an improvised repair kit  with a cured gut.

prons: they are easy to make and do not take a lot of time and they are lightweight

cons: they are not very efficient and dosent have a lot of durability.

    - Bone knife can be made out of deer, wolf, bear and moose bones. it can be crafted with the same process than the needle and you dont need a workbench too.

prons : easy to make, lightweight, reduced the ammount of time needed to harvest an animal, can harvest 50% frozen animals and can make a difference between life and death in a bare hands fight against a wolf

Cons : not as efficient as the normal knife and you cannot sharpen it

    - there could also be a bone arrowhead but i am not going to mention everything about it as it is pretty much the same thing than the knife and the needle.

Now for the scrap metal knife the idea is that you can make it on a workbench (no need of a forge) with a hacksaw or a heavy hammer.

the prons are that you cannot sharpen it and it is heavyer than a normal knife. basically a heavyer and more reliable cutting edge than the bone knife

feel free to give  your opinion i would like to hear more about it :)

  22. wow great work @Glflegolas

I like the drawing. its an interesting region taht i would shurely try to stay as long as possible.

Although i would add something else that i think would be nice:

Being able to actually play on t he boat during the travel from great bear to small bear island.

you would need to pack water in advance beacause we cannot drink salted water. You would also need to get a lot of warm and WINDPROOF clothes to have enough protection from the elements. Could even be able to catch fishs directly from the boat and they could be even bigger than what we are used to catch in mystery lake or coastal highway. it would be nice if we could also make a small fire in cooking pot from wood that you collected before.

I think a small but dangerous trip of 2 to 3 days depending on the weather would be better than a simple time warp where it tells you how much calories it will take.
