Story Mode Specualtion Thread

Based on my observations and a few posts here and on the steam forums I feel that the story mode will be all about getting the lights back on and communications back up.

With the new map coming out soon, and the little tease, (the small glimpse of the new map), at the end of the trailer announcing the latest major update.

Lets Speculate about story mode and the new area.

The new maps main feature is some sort of power facility. A substation as we call it in the states or maybe the central power hub.

As to why I draw that conclusion.

Radios, why are they there?

Car batteries? Why are the colored so brightly in contrast to the other engine components when you pop a car hood?

Signal Hill? Its all got to tie in some how

Interested in hearing fellow TLD fans thoughts and speculations

From the rumors I have heard the main feature of the August map is not some sort of power facility but it does feature a location not only extremely reliant on power but also one which sounds like an absolutely amazing location to make into a base.

I drag these Kickstarter pages to the present, cuz I think many of us newcomers are unfamiliar (I only found them yesterday  ). Granted this was 2 years ago when the game was just an idea trying to get funded, but could it still be an accurate description of what is being built? Maybe we can get a modern team assessment in an update.

Read and see what thoughts were in the beginning:

Highlights:

Day/Night will shift and be significant. Weather will be everpresent and variable. Character's condition will be threatened by needs. Saves will occur at set points only. May be adapted to Xbox and PS4.

Highlights:

Detailed description of The Event. Explaination of abundance of wolves pre-event. Suggests gameplay will be much concerned with human v. human adaptations.

Highlights:

Whys of how TV's and lights and radios are still relevant post Event.

Highlights:

Will Mackenzie has a huge backstory. His plane is crashed 30 feet up a tree, but he is still strapped in. Wolves are circling below. Story Start...

This is really interesting, I've never seen the kick starter page. Everything now even sounds more exciting!

Heh, survival simulation. Not an accurate description. Thank God for that; in my opinion obviously.

That was the term in the early days, until people then automatically assumed it would be a reality based simulator instead of an exploration game [it was before there was an onslaught of so many games calling themself "survival" games]. It was meant that the game uses a lot of simulation aspects to create the atmosphere.

There's a big difference between a "simulator" [which this game was never intended to be] and a "simulation" [which is open ended to represent aspects, not to recreate all the detailed literal experiences].

Huge THANKS for pointing that out!

Every time I start reading a Thread I have a feeling that far too many Players didn't get (or just forget/ignore) that.

Don't get me wrong:

Realism is a good thing to games like TLD...but only to a point.

As I wrote in other Threads...it's not meant to be a 'Training Simulator for RL-Survival-Situations' but some Players seem to just not get that ;)

I would suggest to make a 'Sticky-Thread' with this Content to let everybody know these points...to evtl. rethinks their assumptions before posting ;)
