Tonya1026 Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Does anyone have an idea when Wintermute EP5 will release? Like maybe the fall or winter of this year? Or even next year? Just an estimate is fine. I’ve had this game for a very very long time but I don’t play in between completing each episode so I would like to replay all of them right before EP5 releases. To be honest, I don’t even remember the first episode, it’s been so long since I’ve played it. The tales seem OK but Wintermute is my favorite! I’m just finishing up a different game in a few days and considering going back to TLD but I’d really like a timeframe first. Thanks!

rush247 Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 They said in the last dev diary that it would be "late 2024." So think December or next January. 1

I think they said late 2024, but keep in mind this is going to be a huge episode. So many loose ends to solve and stories to conclude. As a fellow wintermute lover, I'm very impatient for the episode, but I'm glad the team is taking its time to develop the conclusion this story deserves. Maybe while you wait you can replay the pre-redux? it's fun to go back and see how much the story has improved 4

Are you saying that the story has been changed in the last 8 to 10 years? I played each episode as it came out so I don’t remember it anyway tbh. If it has been changed recently, I would definitely be interested in replaying it!

I saw 2024 and assumed it would be very soon 🤣 to be fair though a couple other games that I play are releasing more content over the summer and I guess I just thought this one was also.

The original version of Wintermute came out in 2017, it featured third person cutscenes and not all of it was voice acted. 👇 The gameplay mechanics were not the best so it was "Reduxed" in 2018 before Crossroads elegy came out. This is the version we can play right now, it features first person cutscenes and is fully voice acted. You can only play the pre-redux by using the steam time capsules I do like the new mechanics but I miss seeing Will!! and would've loved to see Astrid, hopefully episode 5 will have them in a cutscene again 1

I’m pretty sure I probably played in 2018 then cause I think the cutscenes had voices, I guess. It seems longer than that tho lol. So I must have played the newer version. I’m not exactly sure how long ago it was I just know it was as soon as episode two came out because that was what was being heavily advertised. And I know at the time my kid was a toddler 🤣 I think I’ll just give the Tales a try. I’ve had it since released but not played it yet. I just keep waiting because they keep releasing new things and I’m afraid to start, just to want to start back over a few weeks later. 1 1

Same! I play each Wintermute episode as if it's a Survival game, building bases and exploring around. I really take my time with the quest steps because I like the feel of being in the world but having a purpose to what I'm supposed to (eventually) be doing. Like, I gave Grey Mother a **ton** of food and water way above what I was asked to do. That lady is set for years. LOL!

I don't see anything unreasonable in @Pyroxene's post based on the October Dev Diary; where as these "First Quarter" and "There is no later" statements do not seem substantiated by anything official. All we know currently is that Episode 6 will be released "ASAP next year" (2025). From my understanding the current target for TFTFT Part 6 is December 2024, and after (I assume a period of TFTFT bug-fixing) most/all of the Hinterlands TLD team would focus on Wintermute Episode 5. Currently we do not know the status of Episode 6's development, and it sounds to be a rather large episode considering both Astrid and Will seem playable. Also TLD has many mysteries central to it's narrative which seem reasonable to expect meaningful conclusions/explanations to (The Hard Case, Perseverance Mills illness, Atwood, etc). So I think it is fair to say that expectations are quite high and that Hinterlands is taking their time to make Episode 6 to be a robust conclusion to a 10 year project. Another issue appears to be Switch development with TFTFT Part 5 and 6 due to memory issues. Given the delays with that platform and Wintermute Episode 5's seemingly large scope, I wouldn't be surprised if these memory issues need to be resolved before it can be implemented on that platform. So depending on how development of Episode 5 fares, it wouldn't surprise me if the Switch patches were delayed into later half 2025. Edited October 26, 2024 by Veskaida 1

So depending on how development of Episode 5 fares, it wouldn't surprise me if the Switch patches were delayed into later half 2025. Yet they did actually state that they plan to release Episode 5 in the first Quarter of 2025 on the PC at the very least. The only one that seems to be lagging behind is Switch. Tales 6 is pretty much being wrapped up and will soon be in testing for release December. Then the entire team moves back to Episode 5. The way they are talking about it they seem pretty confident that with the whole team working on story that it will be completed in the first quarter of 2025. I have no reason to doubt them on that. When it comes to Switch is an entirely separate thing. Now to be accurate they do say ASAP- As Soon As Possible- and I naturally (perhaps optimistically) take that to mean the first Quarter of 2025 which I feel is likely- since at least half the team has been working on Episode 5 the entire time that TFTFT has been worked on. However I will state just as surely...that it will come out in 2025 Hinterland sound very certain of that and I will give them the benefit of the doubt as only they know how far along Episode 5 development is and they wouldn't use a term like ASAP if there was any chance of it not coming out in 2025. And since they used the term ASAP I'm expecting it to hit at least before Summer. So once again, there is no room in there for beyond 2025. (Except potentially Switch...but I hope that all gets figured out). 1
Pyroxene Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Well whether it comes ASAP, in 2025 or in 2026, I will probably play it anyways. Delays are always possible. 1

But I doubt it will be a long delay (except perhaps on Switch). I will absolutely say, w/o and fear of being proven wrong, that when Hinterland takes their time the release is always exceptional. And when they fix something like with Redux and the upcoming Cougar 2.0 it will be utterly fantastic. And people might wish that the Cougar wasn't quite as dangerous! LOL 2

Are you sure that episode 5 will be released in the first quarter? I reread the roadmap and did not notice anywhere that Raphael confirmed this.
