Purpose of the Hardhat?

Supposed to have "excellent physical protection" but it only has 4%, which is the same as the rabbitskin hat, and it has no warmth.  Some other purpose?

The boots help with walking in the toxic sludge, and the respirator helps with the fumes, but the rest?  How would we know?

I expect I could science it, but I haven't yet. I had sort of assumed.

Otherwise, the hardhat is just a region-appropriate crap hat. There's plenty of other crap hats, no reason not to have another. Spawning into the ZoC I have been saved from frostbite by a hardhat when it was the only hat I'd found.

Can't say I've noticed ,isn't it at least better waterproofing wise?     I did wear one briefly but only until I found something else..

Even the boots are "useless" because you can just walk barefooted on poison pools and wear back your shoes once you're out of the unsafe zone.

Yeah…. That should be an AUTOMATIC chemical poisoning affliction.

I remember from my last run that getting into "contamination" was very hard on all my clothing, not just the boots while walking in puddles. 

I will do a test on my next run.
