I already wrote earlier in this thread that it does not prevent blood loss:

I found that it does help preventing condition loss, especially if you are fighting back immediately but it does not make you invincible. I would see some use for it if it would only weigh 1kg. We already have the crampons and hide bag in the accessory slot so one would need to decide situationally what to equip anyways. But making it this heavy and literally preventing you from sprinting more than 5m, coupled with the minor protection it provides, I find it quite useless.

After spending a long time at BARK (got it right this time), I can confirm that coming from TWM allows a route to the prison that can avoid Timberwolves.

However, LEAVING the prison typically does NOT allow that, unless one mountain goats down to the river.

The Mine and Power Plant can be done avoiding Timberwolves, so in theory, the important places can be reached w/o run ins with TW.

The Substation is fairly difficult to get to w/o crossing paths with TW.
