curious as to how much you can actually salvage before plunging thru the weak ice.

btw, does it matter what weight is being carried?  If you strip down to your skivvies, can you walk go further on the weak ice before falling in?

not sure if it helps weight wise, although you will probably move a bit quicker, and more importantly have some dry threads to put on if you do fall through.  Nothing worse than getting drenched then having to lug your heavier damp clothes across the ice at a snail's' pace to where you can light a fire!

No the weight does not matter on thin ice.  It may be a good idea to strip anyway to avoid soaking and freezing you clothes in the event you fall through however.  The thin ice warning is a set 5 seconds (or something along those lines not positive on the exact time)
