Legendary fish

Is there something I am missing or do you have to just fish until you happen to catch it. I’ve spent some 40 hours fishing and still haven’t caught it.

It took me ~ 3 days of fishing to finally get it. Just make sure you have the carry space for it. It is... not small.

I must be lucky, because the first time I caught it, it took less than three hours game time.  Second time around it took around 12-13 hours, both times in easy mode. Just gotta keep fishing until you catch it. Make sure to stock up on MREs and firewood before you go, I guess.

I must have been super lucky, because I happened to fish it under 1h game time.

I found that a little bit disappointing tho.

I finally caught the giant fish after 3 days of trying. Can I suggest though that the developers change it so that you pass the mission for catching the fish but then can release it if you choose to. In a way the mission of catching this fish is kind of representative of the background story of The Long Dark. There have been hints in this game that the apocalypse has been brought on by the way in which mankind has treated the world and this mission is a perfect example of that. There is a lake famous for its monster fish, so some dumb human comes along and catches it. Now it is just a lake. This mission represents why humans don't really deserve to survive an apocalypse.

Took me just a few hours of in-game time

Of course I cooked and ate it 😛 Not really worth it though since it's way too heavy

It took me less than 3 hours to catch it. Kinda surprised me, but I guess he was hungry if no one comes to feed him during the winter.
