Where are the cows?

Ok so in present valley in the farmstead there is a barn so shouldn't there be cows? You could get meat from it and make steak and you could get guts and hide and meat

Most likely horses. Or the barn was just for haybale storage as we can already see.

The barn in Pleasant Valley looks more like the kind of barn used to store equipment. It may have had farm horses at one time, but those seem to be long gone. Dairy cows require specific equipment, which I don't see here (nor does the layout support a dairy operation), and beef cattle are typically kept outdoors, not in barns, so I wouldn't expect to see cattle in this situation. In fact, PV seems to be primarily hay (in the northern half) and fruit trees (likely apples) in the southern half.

Have you played on stalker mode? there are lots of wolf packs roaming the countryside the cows are long gone I'm afraid you see wolves need calories too in order to survive yes?
