  1. I'm in agreement. I was rather surprised by OP's post and didn't think it really merited a response. On the whole people here are good eggs, and there really isn't much to gain in being TLD Trumps as suggested.

Besides, as @hozz1235 says, it's highly likely some post will get several likes or upvotes. It simply shows that there is good interaction between people here, nothing sinister.

Some people will see conspiracies everywhere. I don't think the majority of people here even care about it, like @UpUpAway95 rightly says.

depends on the situation i would say then. I've seen 22atreyu22 on YT shooting the bear, running behind a campfire, bear stops in front of it, and he has all the time in the world to shoot him in the head.... i had expected the bear to trample over everything to kill his hunter, even a burning fire

Saw this tactic work for the first time (thought it was patched long ago), but Atreyu did it so confidently, that i believe it's the common standard tactic and therefor that it works every time

Hmm. This is interesting Karl. Maybe it was such a long time ago I tried it, and it went so badly wrong I never did it again. Plus the YouTubers I've been watching all comment about bears not being afraid of fire.

It is of course possible that I made a complete mess of the process and deserved the mauling 🤷‍♀️😁

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experience or knowledge one way or the other?

I hope very much that with the "wildlife reset" they also change the animals habits and mechanics entirely. Wolf movement can be controlled by adjusting the direction your character is currently looking, dropping a torch and aiming towards a wolf (even with stones) is 100% chance of scarring it away, bears can be stopped by campfires etc...

The wildlife reset is going to be applied later to the game, so i hope this time is associated with the impact and complexity of the changes

I totally agree with you Karl. It would befit a game of TLD's quality to have wildlife mechanics which don't allow easy "cheesing" or such guaranteed success. As much as I hate to say it knowing how terrifying the bear and wolf encounters are, but greater unpredictability would be better for immersion and challenge.

However I did want to comment on bears and fire...

Bears are not afraid of fire, as much as I wish they were! This I learned the hard way 😳

Tinder, or a stick, work good too.

Not a stick! Horror of horrors! Sticks are precious Hozz. I love my sticks.

I've always done the hood up, probably still will. I didnt even think about being able to see out 🙈

But for places like Spruce Bridge I'll use one of the other methods; at least I've now found a use for tinder plugs that always seem to end up in my inventory somehow.

And maybe I'll even break out the spray paint. I guess it has to be useful for something.

I just like how immediately apparent a raised hood is, and its quick 🤷‍♀️

  5. The cooking drives me batty. It's so unnecessarily cumbersome. It will be interesting to see if the 'overhaul' extends to the UI and process or just to recipes. Let's hope its both, and hopefully to make it more intuitive and less fiddly.

But more than this its the ridiculous way you can only pick up and drop single items. So you end up with a pile of 100 sticks and have to pick them all up one by one. Or 'raw' OMB, reishi. Stones. Cloth. Metal. Cattails.

It's always annoyed me but playing with the Item Piles mod has shown me just how poor this particular design of controls/UI is. This is definitely an area I'm hoping has been addressed.

  6. You and your devilish ways to kill Astrid off! 😄

Well I suppose seeing how to kill the character is a reason to play when I can't summon up the enthusiasm for anything else 🤷‍♀️ More fun than my dysentery experiment! 😳 If I remember tomorrow I'll give hanging by the rope a whirl on Stalker.

It certainly makes me less anxious about the climbing. Although that could change with the new game.

Chainsaws are probably a no go though😁

Why not? We have flammable oil, we have used soda cans, we have cloth, and we have matches. The only concern would be balance… even Lopers could have a dozen of these on hand if they got lucky with loot.

Who needs balance. Can you imagine the fun with bears using chainsaws and molotovs?! 😁💥

OK so I don't really mean that. As much as I'd love to go into a bear battle in a tank it would rather break immersion and, as Conan says, balance.

    We already have noisemakers?

I do think, as Leeanda says, that tools make sense if we are going to be able to customise a safehouse/safehouses. I don't see base building, indeed that wouldn't fit, but there's so much that could be done putting say one house per region back together.

It also depends on the other overhauls in cooking/firestarting etc. It's going to be interesting to see how they do indeed tackle balance because one small change can have quite the chain reaction.

Of course a game base feature should be better, but at the moment the mod works incredible well for editing the temperature setting.

Thank you Glacia, that is much appreciated. I'll keep my fingers crossed for better options in the new base game, but if not hopefully this mod will be updated.

.I am actually hoping to see it being even more granular allowing even finer tweaking of game play elements in the future.

    Me too GJC

For me, particularly in the cold over time settings.

There is a massive jump between medium and high difficulties (and I should think low to medium too, but its been years since I tried that out).

I don't want to play Loper levels where every five steps I have to light a fire.  I also don't want to play where a full set of even reasonable (rather than great) clothing means the cold is no problem even in a blizzard. This is what medium difficulty is like.

I'd like to see a bit more scope for fine tuning climate challenges like you can with wildlife.

But regardless I agree GJC; more granular opportunities for customising would launch TLD's already brilliant replayability into the stratosphere.

I agree. It is beautiful but so out the way... Mind you for anyone other than pilgrim ,that bear is going to block the road off.  Having his cave right near the exit might be a problem to say the least..

Maybe that's the point? Perhaps we won't just be having mountains in the way 😳

Sadly I don't think it will be Desolation though. Mind you, I don't care about that providing they let me build a little fishing hut not too far from the Riken, then all.will be right in the world as far as I'm concerned 😁

I can always hope that there are two transition areas ,maybe one in desolation....

I love Desolation Point (apart from *that* Moose). Its just so far away from where I am happiest spending most of my time so never seem to get long enough there. Having another reason to go that way would be great.

Plenty of opportunities here for HL to have a little fun, too...

First DLC run- after unsuccessfully searching several cars, you finally strike lucky and find a small note tucked into the visor- trembling with excitement, you begin to read:

    EGGS

    MILK

    BREAD

    SARDINES

    😄😄

Of course, *that's* where I put the shopping list.

    Hilarious.

@Leeandaand @Sgt Socks, just start new games on pilgrim and get some HRV  practice! Don’t be afraid to fade into the long dark a few times!

I'm sure you mean well but this is a little patronising.

I have been playing since 2016. Leeanda knows the maps inside out. Neither of us have made our judgement about HRV without having really tried the map.

Plus believe me, neither of us is afraid to fade into the long dark.

For me, it also causes panic attacks as I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Why can't people accept that just because someone really hates a map, it doesn't mean they are a lesser player. Everyone has preferences. Even the most hardened Loper or NOGOA players.

I also wouldn't want to see HRV as a transition because it is hugely divisive, a love it or hate it map. It would really make access to the new areas something a lot of people would have to seriously consider.

How do I find my FPS rate?

That I'm afraid I don't know Xanna. I don't even know my own, I just know the basics of how settings affects FPS and how FPS affects performance.

I judge things on how it feels to play it rather than what the numbers tell me.

Hopefully someone else will be able to answer that for you.

Even weirder,,there are no trousers of any kind in mystery,pv,mountain town, coastal or desolation...

That was pretty much the end of that run for me..

I could make a smutty retort to this but I shall refrain! Behave Socks, behave 😁😇

To be fair, there are more complaints of that kind in the April announcement, and a lot of the comments under the  steam announcement are mean

And even then there are comments like this one.

I can't comment on responses elsewhere as I haven’t seen them. I was simply trying to make it clear how the majority of people here are very fair in their responses.

Yes you are right to point that particular comment out but that's why I said:

"But nowhere in this thread bar maybe one or two short comments have I seen whining".

I was simply defending and standing up for the vast majority of people who have responded here.
