  1. Try increasing cold over time, weather/wind variability and frequency of blizzards. That will really make the weather hard. Also, don't take the Cold Fusion perk and that will again increase weather challenge.

You can either remove the predators altogether by turning their spawn levels to None, or put on Passive Wildlife.

I usually put my overall resource availability and loose items to medium. Then Low on both empty container chance and modify density.

I've found this enough to satisfy the loot goblin in me but not over the top. This you need to decide for yourself, but at least by going down the middle it won't be too far wrong either way.

These settings still allow caches. Those you can't control directly without a mod. However I believe they only stop appearing in custom when you use Loper loot settings.

  2. Whatever feels right to you Strelok.

If you want to play but don't feel you can without mods then sure, go for a mad run now.

I still feel the game is superb without the mods, even Item Piles and Place Anywhere. And who knows, the "new" game might address the issues you have meaning you won't need the mods anyway. However it's all about personal preference and tolerances.

Personally, I can't bring myself to start a new run until the new game drops. Unfortunately I lost my long run and I haven't been able to get motivated for a new one knowing it won't be available for much longer. Have tried some shorter self challenges in sandbox but can't get into playing those either.

If you are wanting to play, and can live with losing it when the new game arrives,  why not just throw yourself into a new run/s to scratch the itch... then see how things stand later.

Neebs Gaming is having an AMAZING long dark run where 2 of them are "playing multiplayer" by simultaniously playing different games but being on constant voice chat edited such that it sounds like they are 2 separated survivors communicating by radio. It's the best Long Dark Youtube content I've seen in a while.

Leeanda pointed me to this one. It's pretty good, definitely difficult. Very much a case of the blind leading the blind!

Very chill streams (uploaded from Twitch channel), some great challenges. Relaxing and very welcoming, friendly style.

Current challenge is playing The Hunted Part One but never going to Trapper's, just seeing how long he can survive while pursued by the Old Bear, it's a lot of fun.

Great, will give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation 👍

When you use Item Piles to combine loose scrap metal, it turns into a cardboard box full of scrap. Those "bricks" are actually boxes of scrap metal, stacked high enough that you can't actually see the metal protruding from the top.

Ah Item Piles. Now *that* is a magnificent mod. I loved making massive piles of sticks and firewood. Kept me happy for hours 😁 I think if I could only have one mod it would take a lot to beat that one.

Well a "full tour" may never come since this is a half-assed commitment around my work and life but I'll post any significant developments! Here's the finished workroom.

Fantastic AJB! I'm guessing the use of Place Anywhere, Remove Clutter and Moveable Containers? Those three mods made such an incredible difference to the depth of play for me. I made Trappers a cosy little den like your magnificent workroom 🙂👍

I can certainly respect other's viewpoints and decisions.  I also enjoy being able to openly share our thoughts on this forum.

To respond to the issue of hard-drive space - the save files are incredibly small compared to the game files, so unless you are playing on a Commodore64, you shouldn't have to worry about TLD save files using up your HDD space. ;)

Well this is my new fact for the day, thank you Hozz. It's a good bit of info to have, maybe I'll even keep two saves now 😁

But seriously, I appreciate you correcting me here. It won't change the way I approach things, I will always delete and rarely have more than one run on the go. However this might help someone else who *wants* to keep more saves but like me mistakenly thought they took up a lot of space.

As with many things, I do like how the game is set up to allow people to manage their runs according to personal preference. After all there is no right or wrong here.

It is incredibly sad that current save files won't be compatible with the new game, and more sad that console players are going to be unable to even use Time Capsule. I'm just hoping that console players especially find enough in the new game to soften the blow.

But, what if some time down the road, HL does allow Time Capsule on consoles?  Wouldn't you like to have some of those older saves?

I'm not on console but I have been pondering your question Hozz.

I've always deleted runs I felt were finished, for whatever reason. If I didn't throw myself off the Trestle first. I tend to have a happy delete finger with everything, I like having a clean "inbox" so to speak. Not always a good thing, sometimes you delete something you wish you hadn't.

However I don't like going back. I may *look* back, and in terms of TLD this means my memory of certain runs. But physically going back? Not for me. Once something is done, finished for whatever reason then our paths will not cross again.

In TLD, there's always another run to start, another way forward through the trees.

Besides, I'm like @UpUpAway95 - I just don't have the hard drive space to keep everything. Its a good PC still, but never did have quite enough storage.

So answering your question - no, personally I'm not concerned about having access to old saves. It's why even though I do have access to the Time Capsule I do not use it, anything I do in this iteration of TLD will stay there.

The last December release hit on the 7th of December.

I suspect it will be similar on this occasion.

This give us time to play and find any potential bugs and for them to get a hotfix out before Christmas break without any kind of crunch.

This is a very good point GJC. I certainly hope you are right!

    Seriously, HRV is awesome.

I'm glad you have a region you love so much and are passionate about Stratvox. However, HRV is an acquired taste. It very much divides opinion. There are many who dislike it.

I've spent time there, I've given it a good try on many occasions with a strong survivor with almost all level 5 skills. However I can't say it strongly enough, I loathe it. This is an opinion reached through trying hard with the region so my feelings are about it are as valid as anyone who loves it.

It also triggers panic attacks with me; I have PTSD and the claustrophobic and hugely confusing layout with complex winding caves is quite literally a nightmare. In a strange way it is to the credit of HTL that they design the maps so well that they can invoke such strong reactions.

We all have regions we like and dislike. Nobody is right or wrong, it is all about personal preference. That's one of the wonderful things about TLD, there is a place for everyone.

  11. Well I was planning to wait until the last minute, then sit by the fire in just my underwear (a lady must retain her modesty!) and fade into The Long Dark.

Unfortunately.... I, umm, got stuck on a wire during an aurora.

Wasn't how I was planning to go out!

Haven't been able to bring myself to play properly since, I was gutted at the way it ended. Might as well wait for when I can properly start again 🤷‍♀️

I have an option as developers can suggest us to use burdock. It will be a coffee substitute, that is, a natural energy drink. How do you like this idea?

Nothing will ever replace my beloved coffee :coffee:🧡 😊

But as a kind of energy drink? Nothing wrong with your suggestion at all, but we already have coffee and the Go! Energy Drink so its more likely to be used for something else, I think.

Although @xanna has a point, there is no craftable "energy" option, so I could very well be wrong!
