  1. Spear would be nice as a better melee option for wolves, or just to finish off a deer running away/to you. Can’t think of anytime I’ve sat there thinking I needed a ladder though. Limited mobility sure, but I don’t there are any shortcuts needed unless I can climb a tree with it when running from a bear.
  2. Not sure I’d agree with an aim assist. It’s pretty rough as it is when shooting with anything, even on the PC using mouse and keyboard. I think in many games an aim assist is appropriate but with the realistic physics that they have in this with rocks, arrows, and guns, I think keep as is.
  3. Already been to Timberwolf Mountain summit and that was just plain brilliantly done, but when I came across this other crash site yesterday, it made me pause for a second. Everything is fictional, yeah, but the detail and care that was taken on that was eerie and thought provoking. Three other moments in gaming have caught me off guard emotionally. The death of Aerith in FF7, dying in CoD MW 4 after Shock and Awe when the nuke goes off, and walking out of Vault 101 in Fallout 3. Now there is this chilling scene. Bravo team.
  4. I had thought of something like that. It’s mentioned in other posts I’ve seen. A fog that slowly dwindles down the accessible regions do you end up in one to survive in. Randomly obviously. I think that could be a fun element but at the same time, I think the typical length of each “round” is typically pretty substantial, I think the same idea can be accomplished on your own just by setting limits on yourself. Just my opinion but I agree with @Old Hermit, that battle royal style doesn’t really fit the style of gameplay that TLD fills.
  5. It was the opposite at the time for me, was my first run and like 50 days in. Bear got me and ruined half of my gear pretty much. Had a bunch waiting to cure but only a couple singles read and, as mentioned, failed repair. The rabbit mittens were destroyed and I just made some improvised ones until I could craft again but for sure, knowing fatigue has such a big part to play is great to know!
  6. Ok thanks! I hadn’t noticed repairing being lower when not rested so it’s good to know. I had an encounter with a bear and some wolves on my first setup in coastal highway. Deer pants and rabbit stuff needed repair. With so many 85% success fires failing, to see a couple repairs fail didn’t send any concern to me. At least one of each failed though. This does help though. Thank you!
  7. I’m sorry if it’s been covered, didn’t see it but searching can yield more than a few results on some topics... Anyway, I was curious if many find it better to just craft new clothing items rather than risk the repair failing? Not to mention, the % repair is so low for what a new item would require. I can understand repairing is faster by far, but is this one of those things you would consider a last resort and just play the long game by making extras in spare time to equip instead? The rabbit stuff especially. As abundant as they are, crafting extra mittens and head gear seems like a better option. Thanks!

    Todays Ideas

😳 How did I not think of this... looks like I’m cleaning that filing cabinet out and using that stack for something. Great tip! Thanks!

    Todays Ideas

I like the candle idea for sure. Lanterns are a great light object but something substantial for crafting/reading at night. Permanent placement would be fine even. Fire heat effecting cook time would be awesome. It’s already implemented to an extent with the forge do the idea is out there. Would love a clumsy mode of transporting between home bases. A sled would be fantastic! Would have huge limitations tied with the effort needed to move, etc. Would be fun for sure.
  10. Yeah, it was a comment way earlier which is why mine was way out of context without it. I do enjoy the harvesting frozen carcasses though lol Back on the topic though... A bury the dead option would be a good like achievement add on however, in that frozen environment, anything short of a back hoe I think would be pointless trying to dig, however, something like the stone storage where you gather like 100 stones? and can make a respectable mound, more medieval like, would be a better time consuming activity I think. Other than an achievement maybe some kind of status effect with a moral boost. Stamina regen x2 for a period, cabin fever meter reset. Something. Just a nice aesthetic kind of addition for the game.
  11. Completely agree. Sorry, not sure why my quote from an earlier post wasn’t attached but was commenting on the fact that even being frozen, there’s a chance like with animals to still harvest them. But no no no, I’m all against cannibalism being a thing. As said, I still won’t eat the cans of dog food let alone stoop to eating the fallen ones.
  12. Ahh, duh. Thank you! It isn’t much like being able to risk eating something, add cloths, start fires, etc. It is something at least. I agree. It would be nice if rather than draining your energy like it does making you need to sleep, maybe add a stamina reduction like clothing weight does but is remedied by sleeping or slowly over time?
  13. ^^ not to mention, just a reduction in harvestable meat if they’re frozen. It’s kind of like dog food, still haven’t eaten any but I know it’s there as a last resort.
  14. I think you’re missing my point peteloud. I’m not saying you can’t have negative effects to sleeping on the floor and make it work as a game element, I’m just saying that the devs may have intentionally made this a very deadly result by not having the bedroll. Almost any area has houses, trailers, etc that if you start getting tired can make it to. But if you go to Ash Canyon, or Timberwolf Mountain for example, you BETTER pay more attention. In real life survival situations, a single simple mistake can be the real trial of life or death. By not having that mechanic available, the threat in those regions is a lot higher.
  15. As a realist aspect, yeah this does make sense. But I think there’s a fine line when it comes to real/game that needs to be taken under consideration for entertainment value. Maybe as a feature in a custom play though you can toggle but I think any preset play shouldn’t include this. There are hundreds if not thousands of reality items that could be added, like dumping out a lantern for the fuel inside? Or climbing over an object/jumping? Or a multitude of other things that have already been mentioned. But sleeping anywhere eliminates a strategic element I believe they wanted in the game. So I can see both sides. I think that’s one of the reason I would push for it. It’s all already there. It may just be a mechanic that the developers wanted to keep as a severe consequence, but this would be a casual morning code. Create a new function for the exhaustion ailment. Copy the code from hypothermia that has the bar display and time duration. Change names and variables. Call the sleep function but set the duration to a preset variable of 2 hours 120 minutes whatever they use for time, instead of a user input variable. All the afflictions are there for effecting everything against the player in their environment already. Then use the animation for passing out after a major attack event. Depending on the difficulty set, you may survive in the outdoors on easier setting but harder settings would likely be too cold. Would have to aim for a cave and start a fire. More strategic element. Would also be cool to add other impairments like the player can randomly trip while reaching exhaustion, blurred vision, etc. All that is already there too 😋 Mostly I’m just salty about my situation but I think when every other ailment has multiple ways to reduce the risk (eating/drinking unsafe items might do more harm, cattails are naturally occurring, drink/eat something warm, make a fire with a few sticks for a moment of heat, etc) having one only real remedy for sleeping is a little odd. Again, it may just be the way the devs wanted to keep the game though so I’m good either way.
  16. I only recently started playing and have been having an amazing experience. On day 60 of my first survival play through I decided to go for the gold mine in Ash Canyon for the technical pack and crampons. After an exciting encounter with the moose outside the goldmine exit, I continued on my way with some broken ribs excite to get to my home base and take a rest. When I went to lay down to recover, my bedroll was gone. long story short, I think the moose stole it, but I religiously check before leaving any camp if I have my bedroll. I watched enough videos, read enough guides to not make that mistake. walking back, I was pretty much doomed. Im on another play through but do feel like a makeshift bedroll for those situations would be a nice concept. Or if anything else, as referenced above but not expanded to this point, yes, other games require a bed, but in a game like the sims, when you reach exhaustion you collapse to the ground and wake up feeling horrible. Like hypothermia when you are cold, I think an exhaustion meter when you are drained would be something viable. It maxes you, you collapse for 2? hours and what happens happens. You’re outside, you may freeze to death or are effected by any other ailments in that time. Thirst, hunger, hypothermia, etc. You wake up with that amount of energy refilled and go on. Just an idea, it seems to me that as realistic as other elements are, something like passing out from sleep deprivation would be on the same wheelhouse if an alternative bedroll isn’t available.
