    Howdy,

Which climbing ropes need Emergency stim to climb up? Or are all of those with conveniently placed rest stop aka ledge?
I was seaching from net and here and did learn a lot of good stuff. But not a listing of ropes where E.Stim is a must to have

All ropes can be climbed with a full nights rest.

What is the advantage that one gains when the badge is achieved? None. If it would be a “feat” badge then one could benefit most likely from some kind of boost. And perhaps that could be considered as “cheating”. But even then, against who would one gain such advantage? Against who would be one cheating? Against him or herself? We would be talking about deep psychological stuff here. Against the malevolent wolf AI? Against the blizzard god? That’s right: against no real-life person, really.

This is neither CoD nor a hardcore multiplayer game where cheaters ruin the gaming experience of other users. This is The Long Dark, a single-player-taylor-made-customizable survival experience. With no leaderboards (even though they existed to some extent in the past until they were removed). With no competition. With no on-line interaction with other people (aside from these forums). With no messing with other player’s gaming experiences.

And that’s why this game is so rich. Because each time we fire up our gaming rigs, everyone of us can get to live and contemplate the Quiet Apocalypse as we really see fit at that very moment.

People may think I am a cheater. Well, I just think I play the game as I feel like at the time. And what is more important, the way the game allows me to.

Because, as someone once said: “the code is law”.

I enjoy that you grabbed my definition of cheat to make this statement. My statements after that definition are sort of on the same line as yours. Its single player, and there is a goal. How you get to that goal (without breaking the game) is totally up to you.

So that badge is a badge awarded to cheaters.    It shouts out, I cheat in TLD.

    Cheat:
1.: act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination.
2.: avoid (something undesirable) by luck or skill.

Sorry, I can't agree with your statement. If the badge says "Collect Maple Syrup & Ketchup Chips (multiple saves)" .. and you collect them, using 25 saves where you grabbed 1 maple syrup each time, you still followed the rules.

The badge awarded "grinders". Did you grind for the badge?

When you map the charakter reveals the exact position on the pitch black map, which means he clearly knows where he is right now. Why hide this information from us?

The area is still small. Try the outlook on CH, the revealed area is super small even if its the highest spot on the map.

It's not an issue i think should be addressed. (opinion of course)

  5. The higher the ground you are on, the more open the viewing space, and you'll map a wider area. Find polaroids  and it will reveal A LOT of the map. In regards to showing position, that is up to you, as the guy without a compass & no GPS system, to figure out. No hand holding; survive.

those initial backers helped Hinterland bring this wonderful game to us in the first place, even arguably more so than those of us who supported it later.

    This is a fact.

This has meant that I have had little time for general travelling around in the hope of find syrup.  I have now reached Day 263 and have probably only found a dozen syrups.  I haven't found a syrup in the last 50 days.

Since the syrup is completely random, and sometimes locations do not spawn ANY, I do not think a "long game" approach will get the job done. It took me 4 rounds to collect the syrup. And that was LOTS of SPRINTING & COFFEE, completely against my normal play style, but it helped me realize how much ground can be covered in a short period of time.

  8. Well, i must start by saying, That was WELL thought out. This is one of those tweaks to the game that could shake up the "OG' play style, and offer a more realistic approach to survival. Having just recently completed the "surviving off the land achievement" I can say I found it simple, given that all i need to do was travel, eat a few cat tails, be hungry for a while, and then regain condition while resting. I felt like I was cheating the system.

I imagine one could not climb a rope from the ravine while carry 35kg of weight, also while having just spent 25 days starving.

This is a good suggestion/addition, and one that I hope gets noticed.

  9. I recently unlocked the achievement for Exploration Game (Visit every interior location in Mystery Lake & Coastal Highway // 1 play through)

I spawned inside of Trapper's Homestead. Then I proceeded to enter EVERY interior, marking all location with paint. I finished all of ML & CH, and the achievement DID NOT unlock.    Confused, I went back to mystery lake to double check all of the "prepper locations", nothing. So, frustrated, I decided to start again. I ran back to Trapper's Homestead. and entered, and then the achievement unlocked.

I dont think this is 100% a bug, but if you start your game INSIDE of a location, it should count toward the achievement. Thoughts?
