Now I wonder is there a container full of bottles pf syrup in TWM.
I'll save you the trouble. There is NOT a container full of Maple Syrup. but there sure is a WHOLE LOT of coffee up there.

I remember when this post first went up; I was thinking: "It seems awfully early to be complaining about maple syrup spawns."
I'm on run #3, going with a "RUN & GUN" style play, and I am having little issue finding Maple syrup now.
For those of you having trouble, Pleasant Valley Region spawned 4 bottles, and anyone going for the summit on TM, dont forget to check on the bottom level of the plane.
Honestly, Rush for the hot spots, check thoroughly, run to the next hot spot. repeat. Easy Breezy.

Even though it stung to do... I ended up breaking down the lesser condition rifle and storm lantern.
Why does this feel so wrong.
So i've been finding that what works for me is to make small little "camps" in obvious areas everywhere. LUL. I'm trying to keep moving and moving. based on what others have said, i feel multiple playthrough WILL be the way to go. but I am REALLY fighting with wanting to stay out and build a proper shelter.

Starting with zero badges is the way to go if you want to feel against the odds. I don't know if you have seen it, but someone is doing a "naked" run. LOL, try surviving without clothing

Manic has his opinions, as does everyone else. He does get behind ideas occasionally. I dont want to speak for him, but i gather he wants the game to be as clean cut as possible. The point of the game is survival, if you feel safe, than the game loses it purpose.
That being said, you'll notice I thought it was a decent idea. I'm all for trying new things out to see how people use them. If something is too overused, nerf it. -
if that is the case, i get where you are coming from. I have found 3, but i have only covered MT & just entered ML. I spend the last few days of the event on the maple syrup if i havent unlocked the badge,

I think the point of the maple syrup is to keep you moving in the frigid temps. Explore obviously hotspots around all of the maps. Collect hides, put them indoors, gather supplies, store them in little bases. keep moving. you can get around the maps fairly quickly if you move. I feel a lot of people get stuck wanting to collect materials and wait, which i think defeats the purpose of this event.

I have done the faithful cartographer achievement. I have all of the maps pretty much clear (except areas i cant reach) my "world explored" reads 99% it hurts the soul.

It appears the veterans of TLD are making Winters Embrace interesting in their own special way. (I decided to go somewhat passive, bow only. (and staying away from eating bear or wolf, pretending they give parasites)

I had a similar experience a couple weeks ago. (I play on Xbox) Loaded my save, played for 2 hours, turned off the console after sleep.
Next day, loaded the game, It seemed to have stopped saving about 30 minutes into my last session. --- since this point, I always check to make sure it reads "saving" and or check to make sure "quit" is available. It has only happened once, but it really sucks losing progression.

Not even the forge; you're not going to make a decent thermos with the forge. Even if you could make a container, it'd weight a ton. The workshop in BI is the only logical place for that, because of the metal mill, I'd think.
Hmmm... makes one think that another resource type might be interesting... maybe a forged ingot, made out of scrap metal? Might be extremely cool to make that only craftable at a forge, not at the workshop, so the logical progression would be going to Old Spence's in FM with a bunch of metal to forge ingots, then take them to the workshop in BI to make things.
Could maybe use that as the basis to make an improvised rifle in Interloper. The other basis that might make sense to introduce firearms into loper (or a loper-like difficulty) would be to have say three broken rifles and revolvers in the world that one can repair with an ingot crafted at a forge and the broken firearm at the workshop during an aurora.
This is the effort I would want for the Thermos. If it is something that is gonna offer lasting warming effect for the day (essential every sip is a warming effect) than it should take a great deal of effort to create and maintain.

Would love to have an insulated flask to keep a drink or soup hot for a while
I wouldnt mind it, but i would want the Thermos or flask to be rare or need to be created using materials. (forge?)

Many were often refereed to as a "Hayoft" because they were primarily used for storying bails of hay.
Nice! I just researched Hayloft's LOL. The owls "nook" is apparently more of a smaller room with a hole leading outside. Good stuff.

They have a strategic maple syrup reserve:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federation_of_Quebec_Maple_Syrup_Producers#Strategic_reserve
In August 2012, thieves were reported to have stolen roughly 1,000 tonnes of syrup worth CA$30 million from the new ISR facility in Saint-Louis-de-Blandford. This event is known informally as the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist.
I think this might be us right now.- 2

I even took the time to climb up to the loft... but nothing was there. I'm always compelled to check it, even though I've never found anything there.
Every time! thought for sure they would put some syrup up there!
A little side note on barn lofts: Those are actually for owls. The idea being an owl can make a home there and keep rodents out. Which is why there isnt a ladder or stairs to the loft.- 3

Is there ONLY 25 on the map? I've looted about 80% of ML and the maintenance shed in BR and only found one so far. I'm swimming in chips though!
See that's the challenge of WE. Finding all the maple syrups.
After spending a lot of time on Interloper its nice to have a reason to play with Voyaguer settings because you forget about all the good clothes! Mukluks?! Double ear wraps?! Its like you win the lottery every time you loot a building. Plus I can mess around with rifles again. And craft ammo which I haven't done yet. Without an event, firing up Voyageur just feels like a giant waste of time so I never do it.
I'm definitely playing this out until I find 24 more maple syrups.
i found 1 after looting most of Mountain Town

The weather is COLD & unlike any of the other difficulty settings, but the wildlife is not as aggressive in this mode. Dealing with the cold is the struggle. (and it's caught me out a few times)
-
Other than houses and MAIN caves, "indoors" still is below freezing for my character. (caves / vehicles, ice huts) I still havent found all of my normal attire though. So maybe after i get my character decked out in GREAT clothing, she'll be warm.
-
Other than the early game (first 5 days) I doubt you'll struggle having done interloper (and assuming you know the maps well). I made a bone head mistake of climbing down two ropes in MT without my bedroll or a food source. The truck was too cold to rest, and the wind made putting a fire around impossible. (Luckily I had an energy drink & some coffee to get me up that rope (I was freezing, losing health, and exhausted after i made it back up.
So, if you dont make bonehead mistakes, you shouldnt have a problem. -

Thanks for clarification. Pitty the temperature will raise. I would like to not to.
The weather really changes the way i approach most days. Short staggered trips. A lot of little camps across the maps. Rock Caches are very useful for this.
