I finally started to break my last habits of my usual play style, I started using a firearm to deter wildlife. :D
I don't like to... but I had 120 rounds and this isn't my personal challenge so I figured, "why not?"  I need to start moving faster anyways.

My entire play style for this event has changed. Honestly, i feel like i may be getting to "cocky" and will struggle to get back to my usual self.

At what level are you playing?  I suppose with WE that means in which region did you start.  Are you using any mods?

Playing WE (only one level, cold and easy)
Spawned in Broken Railroad (fairly close to the cabin / in the creek below)

Found decent clothing in the cabin as well as food & coffee. I basically play like this.  If i find coffee, i cook it. I run EVERYWHERE if I have coffee to maintain the running. If i find a research book that boost mending or cooking or fire starting, i read them immediately. I do not craft or harvest or use a rifle or bow (just carry that pistol for protection). I carry a crowbar everywhere with me.

The "mods" or perks I  am using are anything that helps me move faster (Efficient Machine, Free Runner, Snow Walker, Blizzard Walker)

  3. *****THE MAP HAS SPOILERS****** stop reading if you arent interested.

This is kind of hard to explain. but you are literally on the lowest level of that location. BUT, if you turnaround and follow the ice STRAIGHT back, and then continue to the cliff, you should find a rope. it will climb up 1 level, and then there is another rope (so get some rest).

That should get you to Pensive Vista. Then follow that around to Monolith Lake (watch out for Moosie).

Go left at monolith Lake (your left from where you are entering) follow left and then south through brush to the signal fire.  I also found it by accident when i first ventured out there.

This "lighthouse" pic is amazing!  love it!  - please explain how you achieved this visual delight!

Desolation Point, top of lighthouse, during an aurora. standing outside of the window (on the "balcony"?) of the lighthouse, looking up at the inside of the roof (where the light shines).

I never realized how BRIGHT it gets up there during an aurora.

I found a corpse with syrup.
    TWM-Mountaintop
    HRV-Mysterious Signal Fire.
    HRV-Valley Cave.

Is it possible to randomly obtain syrup from any corpse?
Or are only the corpses in a particular location possessing the syrup?

I have yet to find syrup on a corpse. (Can you imagine if someone quoted this out of context IRL) )

    That's correct.

Feel free not to participate.  I was trying to think of a fun way to limit some use of the massive amount of loot.  If it's not your thing, that's fine, carry on, my friend.

i think you got the wrong impression. I wasn't mocking the challenge, I am smiling (dying=laughing) thinking about it.

  7. I'm dying. I cant read? I can craft an entire Wolfskin coat, but i cant sew a hole in my shirt LOL.

Based on the amount of clothing in this mode, i think not sewing may not be an issue. Also food. I mean, i survived on Maple Syrup, Coffee & Crisps for about 10 days straight

  8. On my first playthrough, i felt the same way, UNTIL I realized the point is to hunt Maple Syrup, not survive. So, with that in mind, i changed to a run & gun play style. I WILL NOT allow my player to stay in house for anything other than searching loot, or sleeping if i need to.

    I do not hunt.

    I do not craft.

I do not pick up food other than ketchup chips, syrup or coffee.

Basically, if it doesnt support me finding syrup as quickly as possible, i dont have it in the backpack. I'm 20 days in to my second run (because i was doing it wrong on the first run). ---20 days in, i've looted "Broken Railroad, Forlorn Muskeg, Mountain Town, Ravine, Pleasant Valley, Timberwolf Mountain, & most of Coastal Highway. For me, the race to loot all regions for liquid gold IS THE GAME (at least until the end of the month).

I’ll have to disagree on that point, at least on my end.  I’ve taken hundreds and haven’t  experienced any diminished detail from game to screenshot.   A dark foggy night in game is a dark foggy shot.  Details are low in both, but not less in the screenshot.   Perhaps on the kb / mb level there is a difference, but I’ve never felt let down by it.

I play on Xbox. The screen capture definitely loses something. It will look fine in game, the screen capture will capture it decently enough. But getting it from Xbox to this forum, the details get lost. colors get less vibrant ... kind of sad.

I really want to be as thorough as I can be in my quest for syrup and explore as much in the world as possible before the weather or wildlife do me in, but...

From what folks have posted, it sounds like some spots may not be worth the effort?  So is climbing the summit at TWM a silly notion?  What about the coal mine in CH, I'd have to wait for an aurora to get down in there.  And HRV, not my best map, I'm kinda reluctant to go there fully equipped in good weather, lol.    I'm trying to map a logical route  that will allow me to maximize the search without having to do any backtracking.  I see excursions into HRV and TWM  as riskier side quests since there's only one way in and one way out.  I do feel more comfortable tackling TWM for certain.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or opinions on any strategies you may be willing to share.  Thanks for reading!

Honestly, the best way to play this mode is to "Find good Clothing, Eat what you find that is good quality food, find coffee, run to HOT SPOTS to search for syrup. Drink coffee to keep your energy up, run to the next spot. NEVER STOP MOVING unless you need to sleep.

no need to hunt, no need to craft.

I carry a crowbar & Lantern, a pistol, bullets, good clothing, lantern fuel, fire starting stuff, coffee, chips, syrup. a hatchet for defending.  Thats it. stay light, run, syrup. :) REPEAT with as many characters as needed to find syrup.

Yes, there's no use playing Winter's Embrace the usual way. It's about moving and looting 😉

More easy to say than to do, I am curing a moose skin lol.

In WE, my whole game style is, "find good clothing", no hunting, carry a pistol only, get coffee, run, find syrup, repeat. loot all maps.

At some point after "early game", i only loot "coffee, chips, syrup, & revolver rounds". Literally running everywhere, drinking coffee. Its all about those syrups for me.

**As far as my normal game OCD, it would be trapping rabbits, skinning rabbits, and cooking rabbits. that ends up being half of most of the days until i move onto a different region (and start again)
