Not so sure about that. I've found a bedroll both times I visited BARK (it's BARK, really), once in the mine, once in one of the buildings in the prison. I didn't note to what loot tables they did belong, but there might be a case to be made in some games spawning in either AC or TWM where getting a bedroll in BARK is actually not the absolute worst idea.
True, but you'll always find a bedroll in ML or Winding River.
If you were to spawn in TWM or PV, would you really go to BLRK to get he bedroll ?

Just a thought...
How many people use the ballistic vest?
Not me. Too heavy!
In early IL game, when you have no weapons, it can be a life saver.
It really only applies if you spawn in BLRK. You would never go there before hitting a forge if you spawned outside of BLRK.

It is hassle getting to Spence's Forge in FM because of the wolves. Once there there are limited coal, scrap, food and lots of wolves.
It's possible to go from ML to Spences w/o crossing wolves.
- Wolves close to the tunnel are rare. If they appear, back off into the tunnel, and try again.
- Wolves patrolling the tracks between Poacher's and BR can be circumvented by alternate route over the ice.
- Wolves patrolling close to Spences can be circumvented as well.
I almost never get into a wolf encounter when going to Spences.
The only unpredictable area is between Spences and the caves.

For what it's worth, day 73 is quite late to think about bear skins.
The max. negative temperatures / weather is reached on day 50. Once it's that cold, hunting and harvesting bears becomes quite difficult. And then you still have to wait for the pelt to cure.
Start thinking about bear and deer skins earlier, and it will make your life much easier on IL.

I forgot to mention: There is a cave close to Spence's, so one can easily craft at Spence's, but then go and sleep in the Cave, potentially not needing to see a fire going all night.

ETA: Link to a video that shows just how easy it can be to kill off all the wolves circling the maintenance shed:
Are you sure this still works ?
video is from 3 years ago.
Pathfinding for wolves has been improved a lot, they will follow you on some tree trunks. -

Even though I like forlorn being less of a trek I think mine is broken railroad. It has indoor beds so saves the bear roll wear. Convenient food sources on the doorstep ,literally. keep you well fed for when you need to make larger amounts of arrowheads etc. Plus it's a great place to just chill out.
Sure, but it's a chicken-egg issue.
For your first time forging, it's a real dangerous place to go to, at least on IL.
Plus, brining all the coal and scrap metal is an issue. It's just such a long trek.

No milk or peanut butter in interloper my friend.
Huh, are you sure ?
Perhaps it was my Stalker games where I found it. Alas, still careful about these.

This gave me an idea: playing IL, starting in DP, and only allowed in DP, CH and Crumbling Highway until you have a bow, arrows, hatchet and knife. I will try that.

By the time you reach level 5 most sardines will have decayed. Hence the paradox. Though of course, you could always just exploit the game's weakness to handle the t-wolves in early game.
By the time you hit lvl 5 in archery, you should also have lvl 5 cooking. At that point, I normally don’t worry about spoiled sardines.
The only spoiled food I dread eating at lvl 5 cooking is peanut butter and condensed milk.

Flashlight. I never bother.
I have used water purification before (in a pinch), and I don't mind carrying a few pain killers, since they weigh so little.

Mostly play IL these days. I used to visit BR in Stalker (which is crazy unless you have some sort of weapon).
TBH, I don't know if you can spawn in DP when playing IL. Don't remember if my spawns there were IL or Stalker. But if I were to spawn in DP in IL, I would certainly try to use the forge. Can you find a hammer and hacksaw in DP in IL ? If not, I'd hate having to travel to other regions to collect it first, just to return to DP. I probably would move on to ML and then use FM.
In most games, I don't get to DP until I'm fully equipped, and at that point, there's no need to forge.

Well, if they can't fix the bug, they should just make it a band-aid fix and leave the door unlocked.
Not being able to enter the house can be quite annoying on IL.

The problem with IL and snow shelters is that you will use a fairly limited resource (cloth), and use it on something that will not last a long time.
Yes, there is plenty of cloth in ML or MT, but in TWM, cloth is actually fairly rare. Once you get to ML, you should find a bedroll anyways.

I am 90%+ a FM guy.
BR is too far off, and the wolves are too unpredictable, especially in early IL game w/o weapons.
For some reason, I have never forged in DP. I think I always hated to be "boxed in" (i.e. DP being a dead end). Yes, coal is not an issue, but scrap metal is.
FM is great because of easy access to ML. ML becomes a staging area for collecting wood, coal, scrap metal (unlimited supply in Carter Dam) etc.

Don't recall ever getting FP from any canned food above 50% except perhaps pineapples and milk.
Also, peanut butter below 50% is always a big gamble.

My 1100+ day Stalker survivor has tons of matches left. Not at all concerned about running out.
Never start a fire straight from a match (unless you have level 5). Light a torch first, then light the fire. Always use matches only in an emergency - plan ahead and use the mag lens for regular fires. Always cook food and boil water for many days ahead.
At 1100 days, I'm not even close to running out of anything. In my first 500 days, I was pretty careless about wolf attacks, so I wasted a lot of cloth for repairs and lichen as antiseptic. These are the two items I could see myself running out first.

The lamp seems to disappear during the day.

Moose appear and disappear. Wait a few days.
I don't know if it's guaranteed that there is always one moose PRESENT at any point in time in a given region. I don't think it is.

I don’t see any appeal to that challenge seeing as how you can’t forge anything. It basically then boils down to how long your matches last. Not interesting for survival.
I sort of agree, but that also highlights the issue with Black Rock - in IL, you really shouldn't be there until you are full equipped.
If you spawn in BLRK on IL, you should immediately leave the region.

I don't have experience in Keeper's Pass on Interloper, but what you describe matches my experience on Stalker. It's wolves to no end.
I preferred passing through that area during blizzards, because it (used to be) wolf safe.
Now playing on IL in BLKRK, I get wolfed during blizzards. WTF ?

What's your favorite forge ?
in Survival Mode

Totally agreed. That's part of why I don't like DP.
Yes, traveling during blizzards is an option, but the distance from Poachers to RR Maintenance Shed is long. Doing this in early IL game with limited clothes is quite dangerous.
Spences is really the safest / easiest option, IMO.
