  1. Since in Pilgrim, the world doesn't get colder, I don't see this as a big challenge.

I will try this in Voyager - the world does get colder, so it's more of a race against the clock to get things crafted. It will only get real challenging once the max temp drop is reached.

I would like to have Costal Highway as the one map. It has everything a survivor would need food wise, with plenty of fishing locations, bear, deer, wolves, and a moose spawn.

My one issue with CH is that there is no good way to sleep off cabin fever w/o the need of keeping a fire going.

Forge issues aside, I would probably pick Ash Canyon.

On the upper level, you got deer and a bear, but no wolves. Foreman's Retreat is literally a vacation spot.

  3. A great area to "relax" and / or semi-retire is Ash Canyon - Foreman's Retreat.

There are no wolves on that level. You get deer, rabbits and a bear, plus you can go fishing at the other end just below Homesteader's Respite.

Ok, but I still think it only applies in this case to first run loper players.

The first forge run is the most critical in IL. Subsequent runs can be anywhere. The first one is most critical because it's race against the clock (50 day cools-down period).

Where exactly does the hammer spawn in Coastal Highway?
I don't think I've ever heard of the hammer spawning in Raven's Ravine either.  Where exactly does it appear?
Might just come in handy next time I launch a new loper game, you know?

    Ravine: Train Wagon

CH: Fishing Hut, Car Near Log Sort or Fishing camp under workbench

Considering that you cannot control where you spawn and that a player usually finds the heavy hammer in ML on Interloper difficulty, it just makes more sense to use the forge at Spence's in FM once you've acquired the requisite tool(s) than to travel all the way to DP once you have acquired the hammer.

Yes, ML is a guaranteed hammer spawn in IL.

Between CH and the Ravine, you'll also get a guaranteed hammer spawn. But the avg. distances to travel to the Riken is greater than from ML spawn points to Spence's.

Granted, if you spawn in CH and find the hammer there, going to DP is perhaps an ok decision. If you have to go to the Ravine to get the hammer, you might as well move on to ML and Spences. When spawning in TWM or PV distances to DP and Species are probably about equal.

  7. I completely stoped using decoys, after Hinterland futzed with the mechanic, and it didn't reliably work anymore in Stalker and Interloper.

The problem as I see it is that a stinky decoy works, but it also attracts wolves from afar.

If you just drop non-stinky, cooked meat, it doesn't work. So why would I carry decoy meat to distract wolves that otherwise wouldn't have noticed me ?

  8. Perhaps it's evenly distributed, but in this thread, all reported instances of Interloper had the issue, and multiple people playing other difficulties repeatedly reported not having the issue. It's of course not a perfect sample size.

In reality, it's "an issue mostly FOR Interloper players", regardless of whether it effects it more, or the severity of when it appears making things worse.

I mean 4 pieces per forging session (min) is very little when talking mid to late game.

Yes, I agree. There is an "however" though.

With only 4 coal, you also need plenty of other fire wood. That might be hard to come by in later interloper runs.

The amount of coal I got from my recent Cinder Hill visit (41 coal) is ridiculous. But the problem is schlepping it all to DP.

  10. Ok, after playing TLD for many years, I went to forge in DP for the first time.
Didn’t like the experience at all.

    - even when the forge is lit, you can not see anything around it. If you stash different items nearby (scrap metal, wood, coal), you have to search in the dark

    - no work bench is a hassle as well

    - always having to exit carefully to avoid the bear

Well, none of the above is horrible, but it’s still my least preferred forge.

What was fun though is that I confined myself to DP and CH only (plus crumbling highway and ravine - in order to have a guaranteed spawn of hammer, hacksaw and bedroll).

I don’t plan to leave these regions, I want to see how long I can keep it.

  11. Finally encountered it on Interloper. Was just about to make my way down the rope at the back prison complex. He turned around the corner.
I was able to wait inside the fenced in area with the rope, scare him and then make a run past him.
Advantage: there was no wolf due to the bear.

That's quite unfortunate. I don't use Twitter so I do not have an account there and have no intention to create one. But when I tried to read the Hinterland tweets I immediately got redirected to Twitter's login/registration page.

Yep, same here. Not a fan of Twitter. I can understand that it's a useful medium for people w/o a web presence, but Hinterland has no excuse. They got this website.

If anything, they should post on Twitter a link to any announcements published here.

Indeed. I wonder why they neglect their own communication infrastructure that much.

It's always been like that. You would never hear from them in a timely manner on the forums, Twitter seems to be their medium of choice. Doesn't make any sense.

I'm presuming it's not just about the key though, there are corpses disappearing too which might be part of the same problem. That would explain why only some people can't get the key and others can.

Look, I'm not disputing that the ISSUE itself is complex. I'm just saying that a temporary band-aid fix can be very SIMPLE.

    Set

    paradise_meadows_door = unlocked

at the start of each game.

No offence but it's not hard to leave the house alone  until the fix is done properly  is it?  Plus they might not be able to do a temporary job for some reason.

For IL players, it's a huge hassle.

And no, it's not plausible that a fix is impossible. This shouldn't be rocket science, just a matter of wanting it done. It's just not a priority to them. Just like their merch store, which they claim is not "safe" to operate due to Covid. LOL.

Come on, give them a break guys! It's only been a few weeks . I'm sure they're doing the best they can. They always do . I'd rather they take their time and get it right than rush it.

They don't need to get it right fast. Just band-aid fix it by making the door temporarily unlocked.

    It can't be THAT hard.

Also, on topic: I feel like some people undervalue time, especially on loper.

Totally. That's one of the reasons by in IL, Spence's has such an advantage compared to BR.

To to get to and from BR is 2 days lost.

But that's stuff for another thread:
