  1. But I'm not looking for a competition. I'm looking for a personal challenge option, where I can beat my own records.
  2. Hello dear Devs, Sorry to redo a dead thread, but can we please have a personal challenge status option? I would definitely utilize the challenges a lot more in general, and I suspect others would too (bragging rights and all, but I'm not asking for a global leaderboard!). It is a really great part of the game, especially for new folks who don't know the game or map layouts, but it seems to just fall off the wayside without a reason to keep going back.
  3. My thoughts on repairing bows: if you had the tools that are available in-game, it's almost a miracle you can make a bow of that stature to start with. That being said, the basic ones are a stick you dried and bent and strung... when it starts degrading, exactly how would you go about repairing it? It's not like you can staple it back (also, no staples :), or even really mend it. Maybe wrap some tight strings if it's cracking and hope it doesn't give out? Otherwise, I honestly can't see a justification for repairing that type of bow (homemade recurve). I see even less possibilities for a fancier bow. I mean, they're under stress when strung, and it takes a severe act to repair it once it's broken. Even maintaining (perhaps oiling/treating the wood?) would be minimal vs the actual use. If they're made of fiberglass, then even more nope. If anything, maybe allow players to unstring them and have them degrade based on time they are strung? Though that would introduce a whole new mechanic, so probably not...
  4. No prob. I didn't take it as as a dig... I actually had not thought about looking for it outside of an in-game option on the main menu. I'll check it out.
  5. I actually thought I knew this was a slider, but I do not see it now.
  6. Honestly, I've never had it as an issue... until now. That's why I'm chiming in. It's not a game changer I'd report, but the thread was already started, so I wanted to toss in my 27 cents (due to inflation).
  7. I agree with most everything you said, but except, I saw a lot of solutions being "turn up your monitor brightness". That is to what I was replying. I have no beef with the fact that I have no light factors in Carter Dam, which I believe I explained (and that run ended unfortunately, but completely unrelated in FM). What I am saying is that an actual change occurred, where you cannot compensate for out-of-game display options. The problem I am agreeing with is that this was not an issue originally. So for some of us, but I can only speak for myself (playing for about 7 years now), is that people have been crying wolf on darkness, but it's not really been a thing you couldn't "skirt" around. I hate to put it that way, but I would have preferred to have the updates saying "we're making darkness for reals now". They promised a lot, but that was not one of those highlights. So yeah, I've sparked lanterns, I've wasted matches, and I know how to light up my area when I can't see stuff. But I also knew all the ins and outs for where I actually had to do it, and when I could get away with turning off my lights in my room (irl) and making sure my secondary monitor was somewhat dark. That seems to be no longer a thing though.
  8. Interesting. I had googled it btw, but everyone's searches are personalised...
  9. Do you have a list of launch options? I didn't have that flag enabled, though I am using Linux. Was curious as to what other options are out there, whether or not related to this.
  10. I'm going to disagree, and I'd like to point out I've never complained about the darkness. It's sort of the point of the game. But I've been playing for a number of years, and this last update made it so even adjusting my monitor doesn't fix it. Carter Dam is completely dark between rooms inside... now, I will admit that maybe it should have been that way from the start, but it wasn't. Unfortunately, due to all the having to restart with the recent bugs, I haven't found any light sources in loper. So that's not an option. But even on bright days, I'm having problems seeing to search inside trailers. Additionally, there are caves and various areas that are known to be extremely dark (if not pitch black). Those have [generally] always been that way. But as the OP said, I'm outside in mid-day with all my brightness options turned up (and the pause menu looks starkly gradient, because it's literally just that bright), and if it's cloudy, it looks like dusk. Not stormy, just cloudy. Granted, sunny days have me looking for sunglasses -- so what I'm trying to say is that the brights are properly bright, but the darkness has been noticeably increased. I don't feel like the original darkness settings were broken to start with. There were times I'd put something dark on my second monitor because it was difficult to see on the main with the game. I literally played in the dark, and that didn't solve my problem... my whole screen just glowed a dark grey and I couldn't make anything out. So it's not about turning monitors up. The darkness has definitely increased.
  11. Though I just noticed that I swapped to Wintermute, and the game crashed. But, I swapped from loading a survival game in that instance. I started over, and it swapped to Wintermute just fine. Noting for posterity's sake...
  12. I agree; I just tried and it works fine again. Thanks for posting this!
  13. I use Steam and I often play offline, but since the latest update, I get the "no crunch" screen, the "you might get triggered" screen, then I cannot get past the "this is not real life" screen. It boots up just fine when Steam is online. Does anyone else have this issue? I can't seem to find anything here regarding it, but I had someone in a Discord server mention it. They linked me to a reddit post which seems a little aggressive, but I sorta agree. Is this a new feature or a bug? Thanks. OS: Arch Linux x86_64 Kernel: 6.1.35-1-lts Resolution: 3440x1440, 1920x1080 WM: i3 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X (12) @ 3.800GHz GPU: AMD ATI Radeon RX 6700/6700 XT/6750 XT / 6800M/6850M XT Memory: 9209MiB / 64211MiB
  14. Yeah, I suspect it's the i3wm that is the issue. I just am bummed because it used to work and now it doesn't. Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully more Linux folks will chime in so I can get an idea if this is an issue I should submit (I don't think it is at the moment, due to many programs in i3wm having similar behavior).
  15. Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to be very recent - perhaps in the past week or two. I use Arch Linux with i3wm. I've noticed this behavior is very common in many games and other full-screen programs, but it was never an issue for TLD. So I'm asking here to see if perhaps a recent update has changed something that swapped TLD into the "other games" category.
  16. Pretty proud of this one. Got lucky and found a rifle at the overlook. But, I'd like to request being able to see past successful attempts - maybe even just the top so I know what to beat? It's a personal thing; I'm not asking for leaderboards against others. Just wanted to ask though. Thanks!
  17. But what I'm saying is IRL you can easily hack a can up and twist a fishhook, but that's way less elaborate than what's required to actually make a fishhook in-game (edit: that metal in-game looks pretty thick and brutal and the fact that you can patch stuff with it with your bare hands is pretty impressive). I'm not requesting new content, was just saying that maybe you could tear up a can to a lower scrap metal level and those could be put together for the hooks. Please don't confuse what I'm asking with tedious "realism" that can easily add way too much from the devs' perspective and kill the game with mundane aspects like bladder control. (THANKGOD toilets are only used to get drinking water from, though you can still die of dysentery.) And the fact that we all have copious amounts of cans after playing a few in-game days, it'd be more realistic to be able to either destruct them (like fires, which when that was implemented was simply awesome) or allow them to provide a slight secondary crafting material.
  18. Can't remember if I've posited this before (and if so, it was before covid), but on any level you'll end up with a few empty cans. I'm no expert, but I would think that actually some of the bits from using a knife on a can (without a can opener) could couple with copious other cans and create some fishhooks. Maybe some mechanism that involves new, lower-level items to build up, because I feel the current scrap metal that will repair important things is too important. Honestly, if scrap metal can repair a hacksaw, I feel that's too glorious for simple scraps that could easily create fishhooks. Just my two cents.
  19. I'm a spry 44 and have been a female gamer since I can remember. Wasn't allowed console games, but always had a PC. Welcome, and glad others like us are representing!
  20. So yeah, I know the folks in the forums don't know, and we're all sitting on the "when it's safe to open again!" answer, but ... maybe someone a little up there could give an update? I'm sure more folks than I would still be super greatly appreciative! (And in the meantime, I will still continue dreaming of my Hinterland mug and artwork posters.)
  21. I believe that defeats the whole purpose of Mistral's question. I mean, yeah you can make a second account and share your copy with it, but I think the concept of just having the time capsule available to those who own the game should be something Hinterland considers. Then there's no sharing, no anything else, it's just that you verified you own the game so you can play it in its current form and also play older versions.
  22. I've been playing since mid '16, and honestly I look at the options and have no idea what any of these fancy titles or version numbers mean. I also often disappear for months on end then come back to find out that you can leave and do other stuff whilst cooking, or revolvers are now a thing... Honestly, could we put an actual timeline on the time capsules before we have to click them individually? That'd be most awesome, and I think more than I would greatly appreciate that.
  23. Thanks, I knew you were all off on holiday, and y'all are awesome! Just wanted to make sure you knew it wasn't on your end.
  24. So, dunno why or how this was an issue, and still not quite sure how I fixed it, but just wanted to say that it's not a game-related issue. Which is odd, since it was the only thing I found being affected with no sound. But all good!
  25. Hey folks, want to ask around before I submit a ticket. I play on Linux and have had almost no problems for the past year. I have all my Steam games installed on a separate drive I mount for my OS. But today, I reinstalled and now TLD has no sound. I checked a few other [Steam] games and they all have sound. I tried verifying the TLD files, then uninstalled and reinstalled, then uninstalled again and deleted all files I could find (but I copied my saved game folder to another location), then reinstalled again, but to no avail. The game ran just fine earlier before I reinstalled, and technically I did not change any of the game files. Which makes me wonder why other steam games are playing just fine, but TLD isn't. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to troubleshoot this before requesting help? Thanks in advance!
