Now though, I'm having some serious problems with cabin fever. Basing at trapper's cabin
The Ravine cave is fantastic for that. The wolf in front of the hydro dam is manageable - especially once you have a bow. And it's not there at all hours or even every day.
The alternative is the Camp Office and sleep in the Lake Overlook cave. But the hydro dam has the Ravine for hunting and stick collecting. Lots of deer carcasses. And a potential moose spawn
Cabin Fever shouldn't be an issue just yet though. If you just spend more time outside (for example for cooking) the risk should only kick in during the crafting marathon after the forge. And that can be avoided by sleeping in a cave every night. Unless you forge on the Riken, in which case you may get CF there already.

Impossible to say. Could be days. Could be weeks

Doesn't really matter in practice though. Not the the point where you'd go "Oh, I'd really like a factory made tool now"

If you can negotiate the wolves and do an early run to the Riken and back to get a tool and a few arrow heads, you should be in a pretty good position to gradually harvest pre=set deer carcasses and bunnies
You don't need forged tools for that. You can use a hacksaw instead of the knife. Or your hands if you thaw it out completely. I start harvesting deer carcasses before that. The area around the dam is indeed great for that and has more than the 5 you need (for the pants and boots). ML has some other nicely placed carcasses that are easy to get too, like the one at Lake Overlook.

Well Fed isn't that hard to maintain. It gives you an excuse to go out and hunt stuff, which makes the game a lot more interesting. Otherwise it isn't necessary that often in the first hundred days or so. There is still tons of food around.
-
TWM isn't that cold. Just a bit lower than average like your other cold regions. And there are lots of caves around to warm up in. Also indoor caves that are completely warm
I've never found a need for the bearskin bedroll on any mode. Maybe it has some benefits during a blizzard, but the normal bedroll is generally warm enough.

HRV can lead to some fantastic loot early on. Aside from that TWM and PV are the best starts. TWM gets you two packs of matches (if you take the best route) and a tool and after that you're in PV again.
FM is usually easy to get out of, but ML has no guaranteed matches. So Spence's farm is a pretty much a must. It's not too bad since it has some decent loot too. And it allows you go by the Bunkhouses and the High Blind during the outward trip, which can have a hacksaw (which you want for cutting saplings). You can also stay the night there if it's late, but you use up a lot of the fuel that's useful for forging later.
Quoteand I find myself sleeping a 1 hour interval when I get indoors to get myself warm. I guess I should start passing time to get tired so I can recover, but again it feels like I shouldn't be doing that.
If you have to warm up definitely pass time and don't sleep. You shouldn't do it all the time, but here and there it can be useful. Especially when you run from location to location early on.
QuoteIf weather is favorable, I could start a fire, pull a torch from it, travel a while with the lit torch and start another one when cold meter gets low enough
It's certainly possible, but usually not necessary. If you have herbal tea and you get to sleep 10 hours use that. Losing a lot of condition in the early game is perfectly normal. Later it's less of an issue unless you make really long trips

How can you craft new ones? (not improvised ones)
You can't. I meant "new improvised ones" as opposed to ones worn out from use. Improvised ones work just as well anyways
-
Even without Bleak Inlet you can make improvised tools and just craft new ones when they run out. Stick hoarding is necessary on Interloper because it's usually too cold outside to spend hours cutting up wood. But on Stalker you won't lose anything using a hatchet.

You don't have to loot everything.
Well, you kind of have to considering how rare syrups are reported to be. But I didn't really loot much. Just a few of the usual locations. Still drowned in loot in every place I visited. Sure, I don't have to take everything. But you still see it and you have to click through he stuff when checking containers

I liked indoors being cold at first. Made for some interesting first days where I had to keep a fire going when sleeping. I won't like to go on like that forever, but the extreme amount of loot everywhere soon made everything trivial. I also don't enjoy finding useless stuff everywhere and constantly going through my inventory to throw things away. Weight management is part of the game, sure, but there is no choice to make when there is so much loot. Interloper would have been too much, but Voyager wolves + Stalker loot or something like that could have worked. Stopped playing after a few days because it was more grind than fun for me
Sure, it's good when these events also appeal to new people. But experienced players shouldn't be forgotten

You still need to invest time and effort to climb up there
It's not a big deal to get the summit. It can be a bit disappointing, but I still do for the same reason many people climb mountains. Because it's there. It's a nice experience in of itself. And ear wraps, matches, fire striker, and flare shells are still good loot.
What I can see that isn't overpowered is a chance for thermal underwear. A second set can be hard to find sometimes.
-
The condition of a fresh pelt deteriorates as it cures. But that stops when it's done. If you leave it somewhere outside or in your inventory for too long the total condition is not high enough for the curing to finish

The exact temperature doesn't matter. Open caves always have a colder front part and a warmer back part

I consider that broken. It should be the same language the game is using

The trunk not so much. But there can be good loot in certain cars on the seats. Both chance based and guaranteed per loot table. Matches, rifles, toques, heavy hammers. Candy bars or jerky is also pretty common

Never was. There used to be a mod for it. But it can be very disorienting.

If you weren't already at the bottom of that valley the way is pretty simple: through the ice caves. The exits at Reclusive Falls (behind a water fall) and near the signal fire connect. You can also climb up that plateau on the up left from Hushed River. Or walk up there at Offset Falls. Then another rope climb and you're in the Monolith Lake area
Here is the full map: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1491002838
The other signal fire is accessible either through the right ice cave (enter at Valley View Point) or via a rope climb
The map isn't really that complicated once you figured it out. You can easily divide it into smaller sub regions that are connected to each other. And handle one after another:

There is several liters of lantern fuel in various canisters. Not hard to find if you do the side quests
You can dismantle lanterns to get the fuel

Frostbite doesn't occur unless your head or hands are not covered.
It can also happen when your shoes are frozen. But that doesn't seem to be the case here

Obviously, not everybody here plays interloper, but, what of the people who do? You offer us nothing, hinterland? Sure feels that way.
They don't really care about it. They've basically said that they don't see difficulty levels and don't pay any special attention to balancing the game with harder settings in mind

Always the satchel first. There is plenty of other good clothing

Question about saplings
in How To Play
Posted
No. And there is no real need. There are dozens of birch saplings and each produces three arrow shafts. So you get several hundred shots
Coal and wood respawns. That's it
