  1. I am not sure I fully understand, but I think you're saying the weights don't match up. It's possible the game may have the fish weight as ((calories * 0.001) + waste weight)

Or it could be bugged, the game is still in early access so expect things to not work properly.

  2. lvl 5 cooking is when the game makes more sense. How can frozen things rot so fast?

I personally wouldn't mind if they made the game make a little more sense by reducing the time to break down a chair as mentioned but then also adding a couple things that would take time like house heating. Overall the balance of time could be the same but you wouldn't have magic warm houses and insanely tough chairs.

  3. Yeah the game looks interesting and I know it's a story based game where you need to survive in the arctic but I don't know what the gameplay focuses on really. Whether it has resource management(it might, you see inventory), or if you need to set up the camp(maybe? you can see the camp) or what else you do in the game. It's on my list of games to check out once it's out and finished.

Yeah, I recall a quote from Raph/HL a while back along the lines of 'don't pitch things to us, we have plenty of ideas- do what we did and make it yourselves!'.  And tbf, after TLD, if HL released 'Dentist Waiting Room Simulator' I'd give it the benefit of the doubt.

That said, it's a fun game to speculate or imagine so, if HL had a sudden HR/forum member admin glitch, and I found myself accidentally installed as new project lead, this would be my pitch:

THE HEROIC AGE- A Polar Exploration Story

An linear/episodic polar exploration adventure, with success based on survival, finances and reputation, and earlier decisions compound in the later game.

    1. Put your expedition together.  Initial difficulty set by choosing either an inexperienced but wealthy aristocrat, a poor but skilled former expedition member (with few high society contacts), or a disgraced former expedition leader looking to salvage their reputation.

Get your equipment and provisions (type and quantity is a variable), recruit your crew (either old contacts if you have them, or via more expensive advertising and interviews, or even take on a less talented donor who pays their way), secure funders (each with their own conditions for offering support), and set your goals (a race to the pole, wider exploration, lucrative scientific experiments, or a mix).

    2. Arrive at the polar region- establish your base, lay depots, integrate the team, test equipment and rations, carry out side missions such as sending a group to get a penguin's egg.  Random events through up unpredictable challenges based on difficulty- mutinous or ill crew, the supply ship retreats before supplies are fully unloaded, a rival is discovered to be ahead of your scheduled departure, a litter of huskies that you can use next year etc.

    3. Once preparations are underway, set off! Choose your final elite team, and support groups, battle through terrain, fatigue and weather to try and achieve your goals!

    4. Aftermath- return home (or not!) to a hero's' welcome, or bankruptcy and infamy...

I am not quite sure yet, but it sounds like this

  5. Hinterland's strength is atmosphere. Probably the best option for them would be a mechanically simple game with things that synergize well with atmosphere.

I think ralph+others are already working on what's next anyways so what we say doesn't matter.

  6. Personally I wouldn't mind some negative feats like Slow Healer or Out of Shape. I also think the negative ones should be unlocked by default so I wouldn't need to grind away, wasting my time so I could play the game in a way I wanted.

  7. FSR 2 is essentially an open version of DLSS that anyone can use that works on a much larger range of hardware. You don't need to own an nvidia 20 or 30 series card. You can run intel, or AMD, or nvidia 10 series, whatever works.

  8. Hopefully you're not thrown into the gulag by that baby murdering putin for saying you're sad about what's happening instead of being very happy about murdering babies. Putin, known baby murderer, is only accepting of things that are pro baby murder because he loves to murder babies.

first of all... handguns are quite prevalent in Canada, and those of us that do have them legally have used them responsibly.. the "new law" does nothing but punish law abiding citizens and will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, zero, zip, nada to stem crime and violence in Canada. Secondly the new law allows people who currently have handguns... to keep them...  thirdly...if you have one, or ever used one, a shotgun is a messy bit of business and would serve only as a deterrent the same as the current revolver... unless you enjoy spending hours picking shot to try and salvage meat

    sorry for the rant

I am not going to spend much time on this since you have to want to look into things but personally I am personally quite happy to give up some neat little tokorev cartridges because having looked into things it's pretty apparent that having more guns increases gun(and overall) violence.

All citizens are law abiding until they're not, and if you sort similar countries(as in canada, US, sweden, switzerland, japan, etc and not a place that is much more lawless) by gun ownership and murder rate you will see an obvious pattern. You can find exceptions like switzerland where they have high gun ownership because of military service but when you notice that they don't have any ammo for their weapons it fits into place.

Anyways if you want you can look into it if you want to be more informed. I will not be looking at this thread again.

  10. Any little mods I've made have always been free for people to download, but I work on what I want when I want and I do it for myself. I might look at modding TLD once the game is in a more finished state and they've opened it up more. There are a few things that could be done that would greatly enhance my enjoyment of the game to the point where I would want to play it. But we will see how everything turns out.

  11. I personally would want to be able to save at any time. If I get asked to drive someone to the hospital I am not going to tell them to wait 5mins while I find a door or try to build a fire or something which means I end up picking up from wherever the game decided to save last.

  12. Personally I would just turn off food decay outside. Meat just doesn't rot when it's frozen like it does in this game. Also AFAIK all houses are just below freezing so meat would never thaw inside.

Smoking would actually be a bad strategy for survival in TLD as there are no times where you cannot find animals. It wouldn't make the game easier, it would make it harder by being a trap. Animals are everywhere all the time so there is no need to preserve anything. However one thing I do like is this:

    Quote

That the smell on smoked/dried meat would be greatly reduced, making them excellent food items for traveling.

I think spending the time and resources to prepare to travel would be great(if you feel the need). I am a big fan of preparing for things.

Also I just looked it up, apparently a steak or ground turkey is about 54-57% water so cutting weight in half would make more sense.

anyways a food overhaul would be nice but we should focus on bugging hinterland to just make everything easily moddable because that will be our best chance of having something like this.

  13. If they did have other seasons you could have a game mode where you start before everything turned to ice. Like you're in a cabin in spring and the weather starts going bad. That sounds fun to me.

As to TLD2 I would either want another story(if I like the one in TLD1) or I would like a sandbox mode with far more cusomisability. I don't really play TLD sandbox mode because you "win" in a couple weeks and the game ends at that point for me.

  14. If you wanted the game to have good controls the entire interface would need to be redone. The keys in this game are bad, the UI is bad, all the menus and clicking is bad. The only thing that makes this game tolerable is that there isn't a lot of stuff you need to do in that way and autohotkey.

I would post what I would do but I think it won't change and is pointless. The only reason I am posting this is to let hinterland know that this would be an issue for me for their next game. I am sure I will enjoy the story mode of TLD despite the shortcomings of this game because of the excellent atmosphere but if they could fix these issues it would make their next game much more enjoyable for me.
