I think that anyone wanting a refund from HTL is being very unreasonable.

TLD is the best game I have ever come across, by a long, long way.  OK, there are problems, but even with those problems it is still an excellenbt games and extremely good value.

It's perfectly reasonable to want a refund. Some people can't even load the game. Personally I find the survival sandbox to be at best okay. The atmosphere is excellent but it falls apart with so many other things that for me personally it's just not something I've decided to spend time on.

Story mode can rely on story and atmosphere though, and I do like a good story game. I am hoping it's good when I finally am able to play it.

  2. No sane person trying to survive would get in the water with their clothes on or leave the cave without their clothes. I think that means it's safe to remove having to do that. Just have the character's arm showing without clothing and have an interaction part that goes black for a moment until you're in/out of the pool.

Having a hole in the cave from which you can see the weather would be cool too.

  3. It's not entitlement if you've paid for something that was not delivered as advertised. Hinterland has a history of underdelivering in terms of time frame and that's on hinterland, not on the people who have paid them for the work. Canadians should be double upset with them as we have paid for the game twice now.

That being said I personally am glad they're taking time to do things as well as they can. I am perfectly happy to wait for a better product, and I am not personally bothered by the delays. As long as the final product is good I will be happy and I will be more likely to consider buying their next game.

    edit----------

Actually thinking about it I realize maybe some people do sound entitled....but that's justly so because they're entitled to the thing they paid for which was not delivered as advertised.

  4. This game has never made sense. It has been years since I played but I seem to recall things like axes and socks being 3-5 times heavier than they should be. This is just the minor stuff though as there are issues like putting on clothing makes you colder if there is wind.

Anyways I hope good mod support comes out around the time they finish making the game. I would love to change all the values of these things to more realistic values before going through the story.

  5. DIA is sounds like you might enjoy Project Zomboid. Zomboid is still in early access(which is nice since they're not lying about it) but it has much more of a true survival experience. It's significantly different in terms of setup though, having zombies, a seasons cycle, and an isometric view. Anyways based off of a few posts you've made there would be a number of things you appreciate in Zomboid.

  6. It makes sense that things like stoves/ovens would work, given that even PCs function well enough to display information on the screen. The inconsistency of the rules of the game is one of its greatest weaknesses. How can an elevator work but not a resistance stove top? I do hope that hinterland puts a little more thought into the world they create in their next game.

  7. This was on another game but it was similar in that if you die you're just dead and you start from the beginning with nothing. I was probably about 6-7 hours in and I was walking in a room and I touched a chair and fell over dead. I think it tried to calculate collision damage or something and messed up. I seem to recall having the same sort of thing in TLD too at the crashed plane where I looked off the edge of the cliff and my character must have just died from joy at the view. This was back in 2018 or 2019 though so that probably doesn't happen anymore.

    Dont hate me pls.

As much as i would want to see TLD grow beyond the TFTFT and ep 5 i think we are closing in on an ending here folks. The game is in development for many years now and i feel it all comes to conclusion. Hinterland did a great job producing a trully beautiful game with climate - one of my favorite games of all time. My nr 1 game for years now. I remember Raph saying something about moving to another project not so long ago and its not going to be TLD 2 (oh god how i would wish). We would all like to see TLD grow even further - i mean there are still a lot of stuff that can be added, so many great ideas from the community but they involve time and most of all money. I hope im wrong but i think that the expansion will be deployed fully by the end of the year and the next year will be for episode 5 wich will conclude and finish The Long Dark story and development. The studio will move to another title.

Knowing when to stop seems to be becoming a lost art. I hope they do stop and work on their next game. They can patch this game up and have it in a good state and just be done instead of pulling a paradox and DLCing it until it's unplayable. Besides, if they can get a nice fresh start on a new game there is a chance they can solve the issues that exist with this game. Hinterland obviously has great atmosphere ability which is a big plus and hopefully their new game does that well again while also being stronger in their weak areas.

Anyways I am certainly looking forward to playing this game. I will likely wait a bit after the release of episode 5 so I can play it in a patched form for the best experience.

  9. I have zero issue with HL wanting to charge for additional content. I purchased this game early to help fund development of the story part of the game and as long as that's being worked on I am mostly good.

What happens to the sandbox part of it makes no difference to me(I've abandoned hope of that being any good).

  10. I am a big fan of having good working conditions for employees, and I also think delaying things so that you can reach a certain quality is a good idea. I don't really play this game as I am just waiting for the story game to be finished but from the bugs I've seen here you guys could use some time to fix things up before moving forward too much.

I do have complaints about how this game has been made and presented, but I certainly won't complain about you guys taking the time to do as good a job as you can without burning people out.

  11. @xannaIt's only become common recently as publishers have discovered people are more than happy to buy unfinished broken games. It's the same with all the gambling mechanics and buyable loot now, and they know that legally nobody can do anything if they force patch in a bunch of gambling after the game has been on sale for a while and the reviews are out.

Anyways, yes, TLD is still in early access. They sold their game as a story game with five chapters and only four have been completed. The exact definition of early access on steam is

    Quote

Steam Early Access enables you to sell your game on Steam while it is still being developed, and provide context to customers that a product should be considered "unfinished."

This game is unfinished and it is currently being developed. This is the very definition of early access. Hinterland are the ones who are confusing the matter by labeling a game they are still finishing as out of early access. My guess is they wanted an injection of cash which is how that happened.

Now as to whether telltale's games were out of early access on the first chapter, I am not sure. It would depend on what they sold. If they sold it as a single chapter then no. If they sold it as five chapters with only one done then yes.
