Story mode changed difficulties between ep 2 and 3

I was replaying Wintermute on Hardened Survivor, and while it remained Hardened Survivor when I progressed to episode 2, suddenly Episode 3 is Capable Survivor.

Anyone else have this happen to them? I haven't progressed too far so I have no problem starting Episode 3 over, but it seems a little odd that the game's difficulty changed on me. I don't know if this has always been like that or what.

Yep this happened to me once when episode 3 released and then ı guess ı read some other players said similar things. I realized this situation when a bear mauled me and I had to restart episode 3 all over again🙄

How can I tell which difficulty is active? I started Wintermute recently again at Capable Survivor and now in episode 2 I’m wondering if it switched back to Green Survivor. The forge seemed to run indefinitely once I’d lit it for instance. Any way to tell?

Answered my own question, wait until best jumps you and the summary screen shows level, which was still set to capable survivor

Same happened to me. I wanted a harder challenge this second time around as I'm pretty much a veteran now so I was disappointed at the difficulty reduction at chapter 3 (which now carries over to chapter 4)
