Rifleman
Step 1: pick up the item Step 2: travel a long distance Step 3: hit cancel This glitch is both fun and counterproductive.
cekivi
Interesting. I don't know how many people would do that though let alone try to exploit it...

Hiemalis
Thinking about it, if you're overencumbered and in the middle of nowhere, you can alleviate yourself of 4 kg (and thus walk faster) if you drop your rifle, right-click it and make the journey back to a safehouse. Unless the game adds the weight of items you're moving around. Huh. Bug report?
elloco999
It does seem strange you could cancel picking something up after you've moved away from the place you've picked it up from. But I don't think you could exploit it.

I have used this a few times to "carry" a rope w/o having 11lbs added to my encumbrance.

Rifleman
@Hiemalis The rules and guidelines for the long dark community Says that you will be instantly ban for commenting about game exploiting. I think that's a little extreme but just to be safe I recommend deleting your comment.
Ohbal
Since we have a monitored thread about exploits I think it should fine at the moment. The best way to get a exloit fixed is make it public anyway... the more of a problem they become, the faster they get fixed
Rifleman
They need to change the rules because the guidelines say you will be banned without hesitation.

We're aware that this happens in-game. It's a tough mechanic to take advantage of, considering it limits what you can do while "traveling a long distance" with the item. But we appreciate the heads up that you noticed it. The community guidelines have been the same for forever now. If they are confusing, we're happy to take feedback on them. Just message me or a moderator if you have concerns about something. Obviously "intention" counts when posting. Are you giving honest and fair feedback on something you are seeing in the game? We want to hear it. It's only if you have other, less helpful motives when discussing a supposed "exploit" that we might have a problem. I hope that distinction is clear! I was just thinking aloud -- really, I didn't even know whether that exploit worked, since I never tested it, and have no interest in doing so --, but I'd gladly explain myself to any moderator if required. cekivi
@Rifleman, @Hiemalis This topic (exploits) actually came up quite recently on another forum. Like @Patrick Carlson said, context is important. We won't take down posts that are trying to improve the game. Topics that are about how to abuse (rather than fix) exploits will result in action being taken though. If you're ever unsure (or find a suspect post) either send a moderator a PM or report the post
Rifleman
Are the rules and guidelines up to date? I have seen a lot of people get away with permanent bans.

cekivi
To the best of my knowledge there's been a few warnings for inappropriate behaviour with appropriate action taken if necessary. Most of the bans have been related to Spamming. Also, if the discussion on teleporting is complete I can lock this thread.
Rifleman
The guidelines doesn't say anything about warnings so I thought that's it's a instant permanent ban. And yes I am finished with the topic.
Hatchet
Don't try it with a fire and instead don't hit cancell. Fires indoors! But like i said, don't try it, i don't condone to exploiting the game
