Usually I do it the opposite way (lighting the torch to light the fire) but yeah, being able to light a torch with the mag lens would be awesome. I'm perfectly fine with it taking a lot longer and maybe has a chance to fail like using a match on a fire before leveling up firestarting. Maybe lore wise it fails because clouds move in or something... -
quartering is ok but would be nice to be able to drag a carcass off of a slope that wont let you make a fire or drag it to the other side of a tree if the wind picks up. i would be fine with it draining meters if i could move it, even if they make it very slow moving

Even if they made it so that you could boil the rose hips, shrooms, or acorns to stain the shaft darker it would be useful. but yeah i like the idea of the spray paint as after you learn the game and get a system of how you usually play it becomes kinda pointless to pickup. it is an interesting idea. i could easily see caves being more like this, but buildings i think would require a little more tweaking to get the system right. there are a lot of buildings that do not have any way of building a fire inside. not every building needs a fire but to balance this mechanic with a note of survivability, unless you make a major mistake like forgetting wood or something, atleast a 1/3 to 1/2 of all buildings need some way of a wind proof fire area. eh...would be cool but i would prefer them putting in a series of fixable hand pump trolley carts that are on the train tracks that once fixed allows you to travel on the tracks until you reach the broken sections, then you have to get off and go find another trolley on the next set of workable tracks. could have it like the climbing mechanics where it tires you out and also drains your food/water meters since your character has to actually pump the handle. it would be a hell of a lot faster to cross the map but it would have a cost to balance it out and make you think about if you really want to do that right then. could take scrap metal, cedar/fir wood, and cloth to fix or something like that.
