  1. I apologise if this is the wrong place to ask but I had been recently considering getting it, and was wondering if it was worth buying it to give it a try, or does it not add a huge amount to the game. I would be interested in hearing peoples thoughts on the dlc, as it would help me come to a decision, as I may be overthinking this a tad, haha

  2. Figured I ought to introduce myself again since I had taken a pretty damn long hiatus from this place.
So hi, I’m Catlover, TLD and feline enthusiast and am happy to be back here. Seems I have a lot to catch up on, and hope to see you guys around the forums!

And, @Catlover, probably just a box of matches, extra socks, and a compass is all you need. No need to go overboard when... there is no need to go overboard.

Yep true, thank you for the tips! Unfortunately I can't carry around a hatchet unless I fancy winding up in jail, plus I'm not too sure if I'm old enough to wield one just yet.

Seems like you've had your fair share of wild adventures, sounds like you know a lot :)

  4. @conanjaguar Awesome sock :D And knife too, of course

I think I’d pretty much just be a goner. I’ve gone camping several times but it’s pretty difficult to get actually lost in England, since it isn’t a particularly wild country, so I would have no idea on what to do and would likely die very quickly

    No problem!

I think we can all agree that @stratvox the Sleepyhead has provided the fina, cause of death possible in the Long Dark... but I never go down without a fight.

    101. Getting stomped by a moose. Not once, nor twice, but four times!

    Yep I agree!

And ouch, that sounds like a pretty painful way to fade into the long dark

  6. I’m glad to see you’re back!
And I am sorry, I believed you used a translator but I was mistaken. Your English is very good, I just thought you’d mentioned a translator once. My bad, I hope that didn’t cause offence. But I’m glad you’re back on these forums :)

  7. Amy sat alone on the guest bed, in thought, a little lonely as her dog was in Emma's room, the two having bonded greatly over the past few days, much to the young girl's delight. Soon, they would be on their way to this base Christine had mentioned, leaving their troubles, and her ruined house, behind. A, large, sentimental part of her didn't want to leave, but she knew that they had no choice, stay, or die.

A few hours went by with no sleep, and eventually, the young woman got up, hoping a walk would clear her mind. The bear hadn't been seen in a while, alongside the wolves, so maybe things finally were starting to get back to normal.

Wrapping up warm, she stepped outside, the frozen wind hitting her like a truck. Dawn was already on its way, the distant mountains tinged pink against the dark sky.

Wishing her dog was with her, Amy set off jogging, looking for a good place to observe the sunset. It was too late to go back to sleep anyway, and there was too much on her mind

Sitting on a bench, a distant rustle alerted her, calmness turning to anxiety in a moment, even though she had little idea of what it was. There was something watching her, she knew it.

The snow illuminated by the rising sun, she began sprinting back, glancing behind to see a black snout emerging from the trees, ambling towards her bench. Whatever the bear had been doing before was irrelevant, he was back.

I hardly ever see them in Desolation.. luckily most of mine in TWM are night time.  If anywhere going to finish me off though it'd probably be keepers pass north!

I've greatly enjoyed reading your adventures, considering writing my own but they wouldn't be half as interesting, lol!

I have a question though, in PV do blizzards last longer than normal? I play stalker and the longest I've seen was a day, but I've heard they can go on for weeks, is that just the highest difficulty, or am. I lucky?

Just asking because you mentioned how PV has longer blizzards, I've always wanted to experience a 'mother blizzard', though I bet it takes a toll on supplies!

You can break it down ,I've done it a few times👍

I left the hammer in Hibernia processing 🙂

Thanks, I'll have a look for it! Can't leave DP  until I've mapped it all so I can't even just go look in CH for a hatchet :(

Bummer! Have you tried folding the laptop?

Tried that but I think the hinges are frozen!

Yeah, you could just break down the table. (You might even be able to reach it if you break down the chair)

I might try breaking down the table though I'm not sure if I can since there is a laptop on it.

I've just left there, I could've lent you my hammer to smash the table up🙂

Shame, I could use that hammer!

Thanks! I highly recommend it. For the photos I just download the screenshots to my phone and use the KODAK Step mini wireless printer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C6YGH12?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Thanks for the link! Done a bit of searching and it seems I can get that kind of thing cheaper than I thought!

It definitely seems more fun than just using the ingame journal, plus I like how you're able to keep all of your memories of the game on paper

One question, rubbish at tech so how do I transfer photos to my phone?

I’m actually really enjoying the process of physically journaling my first survival run vs doing it in the digital journal. Plus attaching my screenshots makes it even feel more genuine and special. It’s also nice since I don’t have too much time to play each week so I’m able to remember my last play session much better as I have to recall my decisions and actions. That and I can always go back to my journal to help me remember where I left certain items, etc.

That's a really neat idea! Tempted to do the same myself, love how you've got a bunch of photos in it like an actual journal

  13. I definitely see your reasoning, however I have no issue with the current settings. Choosing between being loaded with supplies, or travelling light and moving quickly are some choices I'd assume you'd have to make in an actual survival scenario. It's understandable that they get encumbered, carrying so much stuff and if it annoys you too much, there's always the sachel and well fed bonus.

Yes, it is a bit of a walking simulator but that's half the fun of tld, you're meant to wander the quiet apocalypse. There's always auto walk that you could use, so your fingers won't hurt holding down the keys like mine do :D

If you're a pc player, I think there's a mod called the sonic mod which I'm pretty sure increases your walking speed. Not tried it out though, this is simply an assumption based on the name

It's neat that you enjoy it, starting over is all painful but no pain no gain aye? Are you familiar with the sequence:
"Wow I have such good gear right now, I wonder what's beyond that hill" -> Death -> "I'll never play TLD again" -> 2 minutes pass -> New game -> "This'll be my best playthrough ever".

I tend to get too bored to stay in the same spot for long, unless I'm crafting a new coat. To be fair on interlopers, players on the lower difficulties don't have to camp. No need for deer steak when there are granola bars under every bed.

Haha I'm wayy too familiar with that. Tell myself I'll never play again, two seconds later I'm loading up another game! It's good fun though, most of the time I die from too much wolf wrestling, that's stalker for you :D

I'm the same though right now I'm trying to stay in the same map for 50 days. So far though I'm enjoying it. We'll see how long I'll last 😅

Agreed, we don't have to, necessarily, but who says camping out isn't fun!

Interesting that runs counter to everything I know about wolves and bears - when you approach a wolf close enough with a torch it charged you I think. In my don’t throw rocks at bears video, I’m pretty sure the reason he charged was that I staggered into that critical charge radius. But I wasn’t holding a torch. One could do a science episode on this. But having done some of these, I’m now of the mind that I want to know less about what’s ‘behind the curtain’ of TLD, to preserve some of that uncertainty that I have about it. Like when I realized that you could reliably bypass wolves with a torch - they always flee - it broke the game for me and I had to start looking into mods to try to regain immersion. Hinterland would do well to make it such that no technique works 100%.

Interesting, and I completely agree. Are there any mods that do make wildlife behaviour more realistic?
