I think that the problem is that that when I tried to place the red cache beneathe me there were many positions that could be thought of as beneath me.  Deciding which position seemed to be critical.  Some times I even seemed to lose height.

It needs to be directly underneath you, as close as possible. The closer it is, the more distance gained.

I'd help more, but it is hard to say what is wrong without a video of you doing it. Might just be trial and error :) kimiota took maybe 30 min getting up there and progress was very very slow. He placed sticks up the slope to measure progress.

I was using the stone-cache technique, but I suspect using it very badlyTo judge my progress I dropped a stick on the slope as a markler.  A few times I seemed to make a little headway, but at other times seemed to be be making no progress.  I suspect that progress up the slope is much slower than I expected, and I feel that I probably wasn't being careful enough, although I was trying to be careful, with my alignment up the slope.  I wasn't sure where I should be looking when I cancelled the stone-cache. I also wasn't clear whether I should be using "W", (I'm using a PC),  to move forward when I cancelled.

Let me help. Are you using W? You should.

As I explain in the Campfire video, you can have your back to the slope and place it down. In which case, hold S while doing it. You need to be moving towards whatever you are climbing, otherwise you might fall downwards rather than up.

Alternatively, do it like I did in the Wolf Plateau video. Face the slope, look down, and hold W so that you are moving towards the slope. Select the cache and have it "placed" underneath you. Cancel, while still holding W. This will lift you upwards. Using this technique, I was able to climb up there in less than 60 seconds.

I tavelled over to Ash Canyon, collected 50 stones, went up to the ice slope to climb, but could not work out what the stone-cache trick was.

This video explains it. Skip to 4m 42s for the rock cache trick specifically.

In short, you need to start placing the stone cache below your feet. Then you cancel the action, and you character moves upwards. Repeat until up there. I only needed to do it maybe 15 times but kimiota spend quite a long time doing it before he got up there. You will get it with practice.

You shouldn't be able to place the fire, but if you keep trying to quite fast in the right direction it might push you bit by bit to an escapable area.  It will give you arm ache or a sure finger if using a keyboard.

@Zaknafein has used it  to get up steep slopes. I wish I could remember which video it was.

    But good luck.

    Here is the explanation:

    Hi Zak,

the coaching videos are a great idea. My main concern with browncoat04's run, beside bringing smelly food into FM, is that he passed the MT transition cave and did not take some coal with him. A few pieces are always in my inventory, if possible. This will make hunting stopovers worthwile or even let You live through a snowstorm, if combined with some/lots of sticks.
Another thing to keep in mind exploring a new region or before finding a bedroll is to carry enough materials to create a snow shelter.

    Thank you!

I believe that browncoat went into the MT cave before setting out, so I didn't mention or show it.

    Hey @Zaknafein,

maybe you appreciate some feedback, so a couple of points that struck me.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the food issue has caused the most debate regarding this video. I think in principle, I agree - if you want to travel like that, avoid too much meat and carry cat tails and found food. However, in this case he had none of that. It may not be apparent in the video, but if you watch his full vod you can see that browncoat is not too familiar with the maps. So I don't think he would find too many cat tails nor know where to look for food in BR. Because of that, he is better off bringing food with him, in my opinion. But one could argue both ways and the strategy may be mediated by how well you handle wolves or know the map. So I can completely see your point.

With cryogens run, I've started a little project with top streamers and will get back on that issue. But the most common way around the Ravine route is to just loot the gun and stim, then use the stim to get back up. This is what Shardul did.

    Thanks for the feedback ❤️

    Thanks!🙂 I knew I'd seen it somewhere..

Any plans to do any more of these videos,?  I love watching them.👍

I would love to, but it requires a lot of work. These four were mostly made because I gathered a huge collection when making my 10 Tips videos, as I wanted to include other streamers. Afterwards, I had a lot of clips and thought they could make good videos.

If I make more, I will probably make post so people can submit clips somewhere, as I don't know if I have time to check streamer collections manually.
