Heavy Hammer vs. Other

Lately (within the last couple weeks), it appears the Heavy Hammer takes longer to break down items than the hatchet.  The HH used to be my go-to breakdown weapon because: 1) I could repair it and 2) it was the most time-efficient (at least as far as I recall).  Anyone else noticed this or am I going insane?

The hammer always took longer to break down items than the improvised hatchet as far as I can recall, I might be going crazy too, though.

I recently tried to break down a group of pallets, and if I remember correctly, the timings were 1 hour 30 minutes for the hatchet, and 2 hours 15 minutes for the heavy hammer. I have started playing The Long Dark in July, and as far as I can remember the hatchet always did the job faster than the hammer. (Survival sandbox; Pilgrim and Voyageur modes -- I haven't tried the more difficult game modes yet.)
