Will future updates ever affect save files?

This is the main reason why I am hesitatnt to open new sandbox because I can never know if any future updates would affect my save files after a long-run.. Affect as in, remove your save file and start a new one to avoid conflicting from new update as it happened few updates ago, two times.

maybe yes or maybe no. If your worried about it you'll never play a game! Just dive in and play in between updates. There is usually months worth of it.

 

FWIW i don't think standard sandbox updates will affect the save file, unless there are fundamental game play or engine updates.

I agree with Seshins.
And there are also options to stay at the current version if you don't want the new version because of the save breaking.

Yup, don't let the fear of "save-breakers" stop you from playing the game!

Now that it has been released updates should not cause the saves to break anymore. Which is no guarantee though.

If you want to be 100% sure your save doesn´t break once an update is rolled out consider creating a backup-copy of your save.
