henroe32
If you're playing on harder difficulties matches can be rare and so keeping a fire going can be the best way to preserve a source for food, water and heat while you wait. However, now that mapping has been added to the game charcoal is also a useful resource (gathered from fires) for mapping the world. This means that if you want to gather charcoal you have to wait for the fire to go out however and if you are, say, treking up Timberwolf Mountain it may be in your interest to put your fire out to collect it. This I doubt would be a hard feature to implement into the game as any person in real life could easily use snow to put out a fire or simply stamp it out. Any thoughts? So, you think that you can build a fire, let it burn for 5 minutes after chugging a bunch of firewood on it, and then put it out after those 5 minutes passed and get a charcoal? No. Obviously, wood needs to burn long enough to be burned through well enough to be a charcoal. Afterall, in order to make charcoal in the first place you would have to build an enclosed fire, where the wood is being "roasted" rather then burned in an enclosed space... That is why you get a simple piece for 1 hour of fire burned. Also, if you think you can "cheat" your way through by building a giant fire in a place that is open and wait for a wind to blow it down, dont bother. Already tried that - you will not be able to harvest that fireplace for charcoal if it gets blown out by the wind. 10 hours ago, Fuarian said: +1 also removing old fires Those dissapear on their own after a while, if you harvest them. I believe they dissapear each time you reload the zone.
henroe32
But perhaps you may want to if your fire has been burning for a long time already. It might even be possible to remove items of fuel if they haven't completely burned.
henroe32
It's just a way to harvest charcoal from a fire that might have been burning for hours, you need to leave and it's got around 10 minutes left.
