  1. Even without beach combing there are huge amount of saplings in the world. Enough to last at least a thousand days. You don't need to live "forever".

Ash Canyon is a great source. Every possible sapling spawn there actually has one, whereas on other maps it's only a chance.

  2. Don't sleep for long in fishing huts without a fire. That's just a general thing. It always gets colder during the night even when there isn't a blizzard. That's why you can sleep in increments (which is bad for condition recovery however). The first hours might be fine, but then the temperature drops to freezing late at night.

That can also happen in caves with early game clothing. Or in the Mountaineering Hut. Late game clothing is good enough to sleep through.

by mid game I am struggling for basics like light and food and I die. My record is 19 days lol.

Food shouldn't be a problem. At least on the right maps. You can survive for hundreds of days on cat tails alone. There are hundreds of them and you need only 5 a day. In addition to that there is quite a lot of found food if you loot everything.

Mystery Lake is a good map to get to for the early game. Not all that big. Good chance for loot in easy to reach locations. Lots of cat tails. Lots of deer carcasses to harvest for hide and guts. That gets you some extra food and allows you to make deer pants and boots fairly on. Get some rabbits too for the mittens. And you can make a quick run to FM (or maybe DP) to craft your tools and some arrow heads.

With matches you can splurge a bit early on, but eventually you should rely on the magnifying lens. When there is a clear day make use of it and cook water for a few hours. Be ready to change your plans for that. That way you only need a fire every other day and can save the matches for something like a bear, or emergencies.

  4. Those new deer sounds are freaking me out. I always think I'm being attacked.

The wind noises could be toned down a bit in some locations.

Waterfalls being super loud has long been the case. That isn't new. A good example is when you arrive at CH from the Ravine. Your ears are immediately overloaded from that waterfall that's still a bit away. That loudness would be fine when you stand directly in front of it.

With the mentioned improved base system can you also add in functional book shelves. Make it to where it can have items stored in it like a container but limited to only books. The book stored in the shelf would be neatly lined up on the shelves.

This isn't a book issue. It should apply to all items. Just improved placement in general. There is (was) a mod that does this (Placing Anywhere). But the controls can be a bit complicated, so I understand that it doesn't always translate well to vanilla.

A simple thing with books would be to finally fix the Z-fighting. It's really hard to understand why you can stack books on top of each other. Instead they are rendered in the same plane. This would be easy to fix and doesn't require implementing item rotation on all axes.

  6. Wolves despawning completely happens now and then. They don't have sleeping places like bears, but they have other things to do than walking around all day and night. So you can come across wolf areas that are empty.

It certainly shouldn't happen like that though. That's buggy.

  7. I wondered about that too. Seems very weird. It doesn't make sense logically and also from a balance perspective.

They could also be balanced by not making the improvised ones repairable, so the real ones would be more resource efficient. But for that there needs to be decay.

  8. Plant stuff also seems to be largely in the same locations. There may have been some small changes, but I found almost all rose hips, saplings, and such where they used to be.

Deer and human corpse locations however have been heavily updated. That's an interesting change.

Container locations themselves have been updated too. Sometimes things have only been moved across the room, but you can also find some additional backpacks and plastic containers. Some are also missing.

I did get a couple lucky random match spawns. From a sample size of one game it suddenly seems too much, but this could always happen. And it does offset not having all the guaranteed spawns in such easy locations.

  9. It's interesting to try to figure out changes. Definitely noticed the new sounds. And the loot overhaul isn't just item locations. Container locations have changed too sometimes. So have human and animal corpses. But saplings seem to be in the same locations.

But I'd still like some detailed patch notes :)

  10. Survival mode is the reason TLD is as well regarded as it is and maybe the reason it even still exists yet. But it was an accident. The game was originally pitched for the story, yes. But they released survival mode as a test bed and to show off what they are working on. And people liked it. Even when there wasn't much to do. Over time it became the game for many people. It's what they keep coming back for for hundreds or thousands of hours. While story mode is something most people play once or maybe twice.

They have to finish story mode obviously and it will happen, but personally I don't look forward to it at all. It's ok, but I play it completely differently from survival. I rush through it between the objectives. I don't enjoy the scenery. Whereas in survival I can just enjoy walking and not even doing all that much.

Please change the roadmap on the website so that people understand exactly what will be available and when

They can't make promises for the future, but they should at least add a checkmark or something to show what is currently in the game. I was fully aware that it's just a start and I didn't expect complex things. But I thought something relatively simple like burdock root, acorn coffee or the new arrows might be in.

And as others have said there are plenty of developers who show roughly what they are planning. Often not even with times, but the order in which things are worked on. People generally understand that this isn't set in stone and doesn't always work out

For example here is Grounded (the game is released so almost all is "Done", but before that it showed "Planning" and "In "Progress"): https://grounded.obsidian.net/feature-board

Here is Darkest Dungeon II, although the roadmap is just published in news posts: https://www.darkestdungeon.com/news/darkest-dungeon-ii-community-update/

but I did see one bear around Drift Island. No idea where his cave is however.

I think on the eastern side of the island down on the ice.

There is another bear around Mindful Cabin

I know that it's just a smallish airfield and not a big city airport, but I expected to find a few more houses in the white expanse surrounding it, places where the airfield's workers live (something like the Cannery Worker Residences in Bleak Inlet).

That is a good point. There are some rooms in the hangar and a kitchen, but that doesn't seem great for permanent living.
