Looking forward to the December updates

…the wide end of the wedge is inside our own minds…

We shell out a few bucks, (maybe a few cups of coffee’s worth), sit with your plain old computer and a preferred computer mouse…maybe ear buds if you are an audiophile, and maybe dim the room lights to make the display optimal.

  • Rest your left-hand fingers on WASD,
  • Rest your right hand on the mouse and click with you index finger,
  • Read a line from a poem and start a new survival mode game,

Basically, the W key lets us begin walking into an amazingly beautiful and frozen world…and our mind explodes with a desire to persevere against the onslaught of challenges as we are dropped into this frozen nature.
With very little gameplay effort, we somehow unlock an enormous door into parts of our mind we want to explore, and we just can’t seem to unlock this level of our inner survivalist with any other game...and we play for hours and hours.

And that is both the problem and the solution, this game is a powerful key, but the wide end of the wedge is inside our own minds.

The Hinterland development team’s success is always balanced on a knife's edge.

Adding to the game, it is quickly apparent that a shift in the knife balance has occurred, and we each have a personal inner mind reaction to the shift.

In my humble opinion, much of this talk and debate is not about game balance so much as it is about protecting that precarious and magic key that somehow allows us to build the game world more in our minds rather than asking a computer to attempt to match our inner survivor spirit, determination, and imagination.

Personally, I’m very excited to see what the updates will bring. :coffee:

;)  Insightful...

Hahaha, yeah, maybe a little overstated in places...and it is just 'Moose Kicks' coffee, (extra hot and extra strong). :coffee:

But admit it, every little change following the redux has been very noticeable.
Now that Hinterland has opened the big box of crayons, it took a couple days before 'Great Bear Island' felt like TLD we all hold dear.
