KinoUnko
did a search round the forums didn't find a previous thread on this. A map marker for campfires, be it your own or one encountered. Same exact way as other things like carcass, corpses, etc, gets marked on your local map. On a related note (have been suggested before), campfire, at least ones the player started, should decay and disappear after some time like animal carcasses and snow shelters. in a week or two perhaps. Adds a bit to the quality of life, specially for the types that like to trek around often, without disturbing game balance in any way.
Mroz4k
Even if it did decay, everything stays marked on the map until you go back to that spot and charcoal it again - to refresh it all. So this could be used to create custom markers on your map, not to mention that you could create a campfire and then charcoal it to know your exact location on the map. So, no for this idea. There is a reason why players cannot create markers on the map (maybe snow shelter - never tried that, but that would be expensive marker) - you cant even throw down a rabbit carcass and put it on the map, it won't show up. KinoUnko
Non-moveable objects in the game world are marked on the map: Wolf/Deer carcasses, corpses, and harvestable resources. Snow shelters can be dismantled, rabbit carcass can be picked up whole, so not part of that group. Camp fire once placed, is a non-moveable object, and stays forever, good reason to be marked on the map. Why it doesn't decay like animal carcasses and snow shelter is a mystery to me. There's no good reason for it to stay forever. Even if a placed campfire did mark the precise X,Y location on a map, it would be very costly at one or more matches, or all the caveats that comes with mag galss, and offers no game play advantages as all other markers for locations of interest on the map are gross approximations. As far as map clutter, all the more reason to update the map on a regular basis, assuming camp fire decay gets implemented. The "Last Updated" marker on the map is there presumably to encourage exploration and keeping the map up to date.
