Will HL officially allow modding starting Aug. 1? The reason they've given us is that they won't allow modding because the game is still in EA, but it's about to officially launch. I just want to be able to make some changes to the game to improve my experience without having to whine on the forums.

I very much doubt it. They've been concentrating on getting Story Mode done, not on building an API to allow modding. Creating and opening up an API is gonna take some time. Off the top of my head, 6 months at least.
