for the survivors you have to fire a signal flare for them to spawn. they'll respond by firing their own flare gun. otherwise you won't see them.

That’s not what happened for me.

I found two survivors on my own w/o firing the flare gun.

I have yet to attempt to find #3.

  2. Funny, this happened to me two days ago. I picked up some fish from a pile of fish in TWM, right outside the fishing hut.
Many days ago, I was doing a fishing marathon to get my skills up. Let me with a giant pile of fish outside the hut.

I wonder if this was fish that I had  started to cook, but then took off the stove.

Once you get frostbite risk you will continue to be at rick until your clothes are back on. Even if you are fully warmed.

Does this mean it’s better to leave clothes on, and huddle up to a fire to dry faster ?

  4. Wow, I never discovered this hatch. Are there two in ML ?

Do they spawn in different places ?

The one I discovered is down the road from the logging camp, passing through clear cut, and up the hill.
It’s basically all the way in the corner of the map.

The wolf threat however puts me off some nice bits of it. .... And less wolves 😄

I don’t think HRV is bad in terms of wolves. They are typically contained to certain areas that can be avoided. Once you clear the wolf in the river section, the river is like a highway connecting you to many places. The on/off ramps are fallen trees, caves and ropes.

Once you know your way around, you can travel to most places with limited risk of running into wolves. The only curve ball is the occasional wolf spawning in the ice cave. That can be a nasty surprise. 😁

  6. The revolver has an important purpose for me: getting rid of wolves w/o the risk of losing arrows.

if I’m traveling, and not hunting, I don’t want to waste an arrow to scare off a wolf that’s come my way. Wolf might run of with the arrow, and I might never find it.

    I sure won’t miss that bullet 😁

  7. Thanks, I never looked at it this way. I do have a spare moose hide hanging around (found it in HRV), and I already have two satchels, so I might give it a try.

If only I could remember where I left this hide 😂

I shot a bear with the bow out in front of the farmhouse in PV, then ducked into the car to avoid getting mauled. When the bear walked by I saw the arrow stuck in its right front paw. When he got far enough away I dashed into the house for a good nights sleep, knowing that was a futile shot.

Got up the next morning to a beautiful sunny day and looked out to the field and saw the bear lying there - dead. Who'd a thought an arrow in the paw would kill a bear?

Any shot that hits wolves, bears or deer will eventually kill them; they will bleed out and die.

The moose is the exception. It doesn't bleed out. You have to hit it until it dies right there and then.

In the end I think it comes down to preference. You can counterargue that if you play properly Protection does not really matter that much. And that's correct. But shoot happens, and if Murphy and Schrödiger taught us anything, it's that shoot will happen eventually.

Can you explain to me how the protection % factors into a struggle and clothing damage ?

E.g. Bearskin coat (18%) vs. Moose hide cloak (25%) ?

How much difference does this additional 7% make ? 7% less damage ?

That is the opposite of my experience.  I've stopped wolf, moose, and bear charges with a well placed shot from the revolver (if the shot was not immediately lethal the animal would pause for a moment and then flee).

I should have been more specific:

If the wolf started charging, and you shot the revolver WITHOUT hitting the wolf, it will continue charging, and not be scared off.

If the wolf hasn’t started charging, even a missed shot will scare it off.

If you HIT the wolf, it will always whimper off.

Usually it just injures, and often doesn't do anything at all, not even scare the wolf away even at close range.  :/

Once a wolf charges, it typically doesn't get scared by a revolver shot.

As far as I have seen, once you hit the wolf with a revolver shot (watch for blood on the ground), it will kill the wolf eventually (it will bleed out).

  12. I'm finding the moose hide cloak fairly useless. More weight than a wolf skin coat, but less warmth / wind protection.

Seem to provide better water and general protection, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

    Am I missing something ?
