  1. I was just commenting on a post on a facebook TLD group where someone mentioned the lack of communication lately, and I posted a link to this Dev Diary! Perfect timing! Thank you so much for continuing to work so hard on TLD! I love the game!

  2. Thank you so much for the update! While I cannot say I've been playing non-stop (the issues folks were having made me disinclined to finish ep 3 right off and I got sidetracked by other games, I am looking forward to this new update. Winter is the best time for playing TLD.

You don't need to "format" your PC to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit. Here's a rather accurate walkthrough.

Although I feel obligated to suggest you update to an actually not ancient operating system that has a metric crapton of security patches Windows 7 will never get, meaning Windows 10.

Debugging against two architectures takes twice the time. So in the interest of them actually finishing the game you should be in favor of this. Even Apple, whom support their hardware far beyond what a sane person would demand of a company, has killed the 32bit-only versions of their operating systems, both desktop and mobile, quite a while back.

I just want to remind people that the most recent hardware that didn't run 64 bit and is in theory even capable of running TLD was the 2006 Intel Core series. No, I'm not counting Atoms here. Those couldn't have run TLD even if they had 64 bit, and those that maybe can in theory (Silvermont and up) do have 64 bit.

Woah... See that is something I did not know. But then the last time I was in the market for a computer, it was a couple years after my WinXP machine kicked the bucket, and I needed a laptop for college and had already heard the horror stories of dealing with Win7 and Win8/8.5 and Win10 was already on the market.

That and I've always backed up things I want to save, AND installed Windows onto a blank drive. It always seemed to be easier that way.

They must have gone vegetarian long ago but why the hay bales and not even chickens, a lot of vegans eat eggs>

I wasn't being hard on Dimitri, rationing my insulin is something I do every month because of the state of US healthcare. Living off the land without a car would probably be the healthiest thing I coud do.... Cept for wolves.

A lot of VEGETARIANS still eat eggs and dairy products. VEGANS strive to use only plant matter in all parts of their lives. No honey, no dairy, no eggs, no leather, etc.

In this case people are waiting for the company. People paid for the game years ago. And the people are falling behind because the company is taking too long to finish their part.

Running a 32bit operating system wasn't the norm even back when Hinterland was just starting to allow people to open beta.

There is nothing left to do, I will watch from YouTube :,(

You might be able to upgrade to 64bit windows. I would need more specific information to know for sure.  If you could tell me your exact system specifications I might be able to help you.

I play this game from about 2016 and my PC (AMD 4100 / Windows 7 Professional) is support this game but... EPİSODE 3 İS 64-BİT!

    I don't know what I'm to do :,(

And I'm very curious about episode 3

Are you saying your processor is the AMD FX 4100 cpu? According to what I can find, that CPU should support a 64 bit operating system. It's probably your copy of windows holding you back if that is 32bit.

Irony of it is that I'm at a place with a good source of firewood, but without a hatchet.

Same. At the gas station/garage in coastal highway.

I did manage to kill at least one wolf on day 2 and at least two aurora wolves on day 3.

Matter of fact it already exists sort of. You need to purchase Wallpaper Engine off steam (Don't know if you can buy it anywhere else) and download a wallpaper you like off the workshop, and yes there are ones related to The Long Dark.

    How much is it?

Raw meat is found in the refrigerators in abandoned houses. So when it comes to fresh products that can last a long time, I mean potatoes can last at least as long as raw meat.

Raw potatoes and other tuber/root vegetables can last much much longer than raw meat, especially when stored properly...

However, if Hinterland were to add them, I would suggest  the option to eat it raw, risking a stomach ache if consumed without cooking beforehand.

I like this idea! And it's actually very realstic and adds to the challenge. However I still think we should retain some kind of auditory cues to find their location. Ravens should have some kind vocalization in some way like crows while they try to consume corpses. And as @Pillock mentioned, the brandishing mechanic could be brought back to chase them off - brandishing in general makes much more sense attempting to scare of animals than throwing and effectively wasting your torches.

Yes! This should be a thing!

so you guys noticed that you can carry people in wintermute in episode three, right?

so why not be able to do that with wolf carcasses or maybe deer carcasses (i get  that they are alot heavier than a person but we could also drag them)

the script is already in the game so with a little adjusting a lot can be accomplished.

That is definitely something I would love to have. Especially for wolves, and possibly deer if only for a short distance. At the least I would like it if we could drag a reasonable weight of carcass to an area shielded from the wind if not completely indoors. Perhaps in combination if dragging a deer, they could introduce having it be something that attracts predators to the location if you are able to bring it indoors.

  13. Oh I wish I had been able to play all day on day one. I would have loved to get to all the caches in the whole world if possible. But alas work... Perhaps this is rudolph's cousin glodolph? LOL.

  14. Hmm, I could see it being quite interesting to have earthquakes or other events blocking off certain routes, but to completely cut off access to an area? I couldn't get behind that.

  15. Hello,

So tonight I realized something while attempting to scour Coastal Highway for supplies.

Flickering lights, especially the red road flares can make the game impossible for me to play.

I have a disorder in which rapid changes in lighting can cause sometimes very severe spasms of my facial muscles. At one point a few years ago, it centered around the muscles around my eyes and I could not safely walk down the street at night or on a sunny day, let alone scroll through a phone or use a computer because I was so hyper sensitive that the refresh rate of my screen or scrolling through a web page triggered it. Even looking at people's faces, was difficult.

Now, the spasms are mostly not as severe, but stress can be a trigger that makes me even more sensitive to lighting changes and after some real life issues this weekend, while I was trying to get around coastal highway, my spasms got to the point where I had to give up.

This can be an issue during regular gameplay, so most of the time, I avoid doing anything other than sleeping during the nighttime. However in Story Mode and special events like 4DON it can be unavoidable.

My disorder is fairly rare, and I understand it can be more common in the older population, but I imagine there must be others who struggle with that.

I would like to suggest an accessibility option to lessen how often the flare flickers as that is the main issue, although sometimes the other light sources and the aurora lights are also hard. It IS mainly the handheld lights that make playing  difficult, especially the flare.

I really hope something can be done about this. Thank you so much for creating such and awesome and (for me) relaxing game. Sorry if my explanation was too long or contained too much info.

  16. Okay so I do have to comment. I have a disorder that makes bright, and especially flashing lights or even rapid changes in lighting levels can be really difficult to tolerate and I end up with severe spasms in my face. I was going to try and play night one for as long as I can, but it seems that between my high stress level from real life stuff this weekend and the sensitivity to light, I have to give up early and hope that I don't have to venture out for the next three days.

My disorder makes trying to use the flares as a light source a real ordeal (which is another reason why I try not to push myself too hard in story and survival mode) a lot of the time. This effect is especially bad when playing at night (and why I almost never travel through the game at that time).

Maybe this is something to consider adding to the accessibility settings?

Oh doh! I'm sorry for the spoilers! 😱

I hopped into this thread, did I not? I've been looking for tips, knowing that we need to balance fighting off those timberwolves and carrying people. Of course, those people could be dead or alive but based on the bit you shared I still have no idea which until I reach that part of the game. I still don't know how to hide spoilers. It could be impossible when posting from my phone.

  18. I swear that most of the audio is a lot better. I noticed we can hear woodpeckers again but it isn't the ear-killing sound it used to be.

However I do think there might be some audio/dialogue glitches. The first time I tried to play the episode I ended up with the audio cutting out completely after I had to access the Xbox Dashboard... I am going to try and capture a possible glitch in the first bits of dialogue. However I'm not sure if I'm going to play when I get off work this afternoon.
