  1. I keep getting to the spear myself but the moment I spot him getting ready too charge it's already too late to get in position to take him out... I know I can do it if I really focus but its one of those things... Getting to the spear alone makes me super nervous and me plus nervousness is a disaster waiting to happen.

  2. I honestly had to consult this thread before I could make a decision as to whether to pull or push the knife. I'm not sure either action would have ended Hobbs' suffering from a medical point of view or killed him quickly. The fact he said he couldn't feel his legs, and looking at the fact there was evidence of him dragging himself inside in the way the blood smears were, I decided to do as he asked. There wouldn't be an immediate reward  either way, and he'd be unlikely to hurt Grey Mother in the condition I left him in. I did however spend a few days at the farm as just afterward... Ended up with food poisoning and needed time to recover and get into a safe enough condition that would allow survival in the offchance that there was an unavoidable wolf encounter on the way back to the credit union and to Grey Mother. He didn't appear to be dead when I left, just passed out.

If the knife had been a potential reward dependent on the decision made, that would have been useful as in total I had two wolf encounters later on and the shard became useless upon ending the second encounter. On the other hand, if the knife had been made useful, I think it should have required some serious cleaning before it could be safely used. After all, who knows if Hobbs was a carrier for any potential pathogens...

I know that long term survival was never the goal for the game and that the sandbox was originally meant to be just a testing ground for the story mode, but is there any chance we might see the ability to find and/or create whetstones?

I do love playing survival whilst I await story mode to be adjusted.

I meant to say, natural whetstones. Clearly we can find some man made ones in game...

Since the original post was created, HL has re-vamped bleeding out.  We used to be able to shoot something, pass time for an hour and it would drop dead at the same spot.  Now, you have to track it and wait Real-Time.

Except for one major issue with that... The last bear I bagged, I read books while I waited for it to die...

  6. I had this happen with a wolf, except I didn't go into an interior loading area. I just decided to harvest a dear corpse that was nearby... All the bears I've shot in the most recent sandbox mode game have been kills and I've followed or stayed near while waiting for it to die.

I believe I recall reading that they didn't want to mess with the live code because they didn't want something to accidentally delay the December patch; a tradeoff I'm happy to make.

I had asked where you read that but while poking around in areas of the forum I normally don't follow, I discovered the dev diary you read that in. I'll just hope for maybe some bones thrown our way soon with bated breath.

It would be nice if we could construct custom shelters as kne would probably do in the real world or at the very least repair and improve an existing structure you are using as a base camp.

Yes please. I have always thought it would be great if we could repair the Mountaineer's Hut. To make it a bit more warm and I always wanted to clean up the various other buildings. Particularly the Camp Office in Mystery Lake and Quonset Gas Station. Those two locations have way too much garbage sitting around.

I got eaten by a wolf in FM within 2 minutes of spawning once, but the dumbest death by far was walking off the summit of TWF in heavy fog at night (right near the rope climb) on my second try at Hopeless Rescue.

I mountain goated it for the hopeless rescue... I didn't know the area well enough to use the smart route.

Did you know there is a ledge half way up where you can rest.  big enough to put a sleeping bag down and rest until energy up.

Either this was before that was possible or I literally didn't know or I couldn't rest up enough on that ledge. The memory is faint nowadays.

Check your Game Updates folder on your XB1!

Just got home from work... The update showed up but who knows if it is going to work immediately. I'm not sure why it didn't download the update automatically like my system is set to do for all games (GTA V's most recent update automatically downloaded). I specifically left the system on while I was at work for exactly that purpose but I guess I should be glad my electric bill is subsidized as that was a waste of electricity. I am frustrated by the fact that while the steam version was immediately available (I do occasionally play on my laptop when I'm not at home) that Microsoft Xbox had to go and be late. If it had been on time, I could have already had it installed and possibly tested it to see if it would load.

For XB1 users....I just uninstalled and then reinstalled and got the update. Game went from 4 GB to 7GB. Hopefully this helps

We have to uninstall and then download and install 7 Gigs?! Seriously? There are people out there with slow connections, or limits on how many Gigs they can use? I mean sheesh, if I was still in college a 7 Gig download would take hours! I don't even want to think about how long it will take my Xbox to download and install 7 Gigs and I have fast internet. The whole point of the way Xbox is supposed to work (downloading updates in the background while games are running or while the system is off) is to allow the user to come home and find that their system has updated a game and start playing immediately, not spend all evening figuring out how to even get the game to work.

I wanted to grab some groceries and while the system and game loads, quickly put away groceries and start playing immediately. Now it sounds like I'll be better off just coming straight home, fussing with the darn uninstall/download and reinstall process and while I'm waiting, waste more gas driving to the store. This situation here makes me think of how broken the video game development industry is, and it takes major problems to bring that to mind. Wish I'd known this was the case before I left for work at 8:30 am PST. But no, the Xbox update wasn't even available then. I suppose it's a first world problem but still... Video games are supposed to be an escape/distraction from real life, not an addition to frustration and this counts as the latter right now.

Does anyone know if the moon phases have any impact on the duration of blizzards.  It seems that just before new/full moon there is a storm that last longer than six hours.

According to http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/do-full-moons-affect-weather-p/40127763 the moon being full can make an offshore storm worse as far as causing the waves to be more turbulent, but once you get ashore, you're not really going to have any real effect (apart from possibly peeking through open spots adding to the spookiness that storms often have) from the moon itself.

  14. Well, I didn't die, because I quit and reloaded at the last building I'd entered. However, I decided to explore the area of the ravine that required rope, because I found a mountaineering rope in the cave just right of the train tunnel. Worst idea ever. I wasn't fully energized to begin with and grabbing stuff from down there made it impossible to get back up.
