Screen freeze while climbing rope

So I'm stuck in HRV with broken ribs, and no painkillers. There aren't enough rosehips in the area I'm confined to (valley cave) to clear that last damn 1 hour recovery time, so I thought I could use a stim to climb my way out. But... every time I take the stim, and try to climb, the screen freezes. If I hold down the 'up' key, I can hear that the game is progressing, but even when I reach the ledge top and the stim expires, the screen remains frozen, so it's not much of a solution.

This is a really long run, so I'd like to salvage it. Any ideas?
