Oil used on clothes to protect them against damage

I believe some clothes can be "vaxxed" to slow down their wear. Could be reasonable tactic to explore. And the (fish) oil is already there.

Maybe it could be just dried 3 days, or boiled, to became vax?

 

Could be prefect, if real recipes would apply. Players would learn something into real life.

Waterproofing boots would be nice as well.  If done by the player, perhaps they would no longer have to worry about taking them off when walking through the water pools in some of the mines.

IRL what people always used to do (and some more "bushcrafty" types here still do) is waxing clothes.

IMO it would be a great mechanic in this game, combined with the introduction of candles. Use candles for light/heat, or waxing clothes? (more waterproof, durable, heavier); another crafting mechanic. Also waxing isn't permanent, so it needn't be overpowered.

 

(I should add that fish oil works, too. It's an older method, but has a short lifespan & also SMELLS)
