Stolen meat not sure

Can anyone tell me if wolves will eat meat from a deer that I quartered and left to pick up later. As I had to leave the meat because I had tones of loot. After returning to the place I left the meat it was gone, the spray paint mark I left was there but no meat.

In no way does it break down an animal because it weighs twice as much as the meat in the crumbling bags and it take more time.

By the way, I don't know if the meat was stolen.

The meat bags from quartering an animal decay faster than slices of meat.  Unlike the slices, the bags will despawn when the condition of the meat reaches 0%.  Depending on how long you took to return to the site, this is the most likely scenario.  I've not known animals to take or move anything other than deliberately dropped decoys.
