That is totally disheartening... especially if it's the only rifle one has found in their run.

What makes it even more disheartening is the fact that it can be found in Interloper, as shown in this video from just over a week ago:

Why disheartening at all on Loper... people start Interloper with the expectation that they will find no working rifle at all in their game.  That's why they play it that way.   They don't want the rifles... or knives or hatchets.  Finding a broken one should be no more disheartening than seeing a thermos they can't use or any other prop that's there just for looks in the game.  I would think it would be most disheartening on Stalker.

I'm pretty sure it's setting up for something with respect to the story mode (probably combined with a trip to BI to repair it).  Will got to chase down the bear spear; Astrid is probably going to have to chase down this rifle with the scope.  Packing the weight of that thing down ropes and across the map to fix it... even the thought of it is tiring.

Its not a scope. Its just rear section of bolt.

Also why not rifle on Loper? You sawn off broken part of barrel and get bolt action pistol. Its like revolver, but much slower. With limited casings to produce limited number of ammo, it would be cool, you cannot fire accuratelly, so its limited. Like 5 casings per map, will get 5 shots ready, unles run out of chemicals and/or lead. Bow is still more important.
