Add in a compass as getting lost is pretty easy and they would be one house with a random compass somewhere as even I have a compass in my house and I live in the UK

Has been thrown out a number of times because due to the events leading to the game the magnetic field doesn't work properly and so do compasses. relying on it would be tricky at best, but they'd make good metal junk items.
