Ice Hole
Descending slopes within the game has little risk and I would have to agree that it needs improving. Climbing down ropes does seem meaningless especially when encumbered. My suggestion is to introduce the chance of misstep and tumble. The risk of clothing damage, minor bruising and sprain injury already occurs and this could be when on a slope a chance of misstep occurs. When the character fails the misstep check a tumble then damages clothing and the character. A tumble would also move the character's position down the slope. Clothing already affects sprint. Maybe on the slopes the choice of clothing would also be important. The clothing type affects the chance of a misstep. Wearing bulky clothing increases the chance of a misstep. Climbing socks and driving gloves might be the best solution for grip. Ascending in TLD already is challenging due to lack of a in game jump mechanic and descending needs some tuning by possibly introducing chance of a misstep. Adventurers within The Long Dark world seldom follow a set path {see Poll} they explore and trail blaze. Disclaimer: Miss Step On Slope is not based on an actual real person living or deceased.
