darkstarmike
Grouse: The rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta), a.k.a. "snow chicken," is a species of grouse native (or possibly just endemic) to Canada. It's active in cold weather, and hunted as a winter game-bird. In-game, it would function as a harder-to-catch version of the rabbit (perhaps with higher calories per kg). This might be somewhat easy to insert; a pallet swap on the the crow model could suffice. I make this suggestion with the idea of adding some kind of light (20 ga.) shotgun as well (see "Survival Rifle" and "Shotguns" posts). Elk: Cervus canadensis, is a member of the deer family who's size is somewhat between that of a deer and a moose. In-game they could possibly serve as deer+ or moose-. They could be less common than deer, but more much more common than moose. Elk meat could have a calorie content equal to that of deer meat, plus half the difference between moose and deer. Elk carcasses could yield significantly more meat than a deer, but not as much as a moose (20-30 kg). They could be given the ability to attack the player, if cornered, to make them more risky to hunt. Cougar: The mountain lion (Puma concolor), a.k.a. "catamount," lives in both Americas, and is an apex predator. IRL, attacks on humans are rare, as they tend not to recognize us as prey, but I think a cougar is a much more realistic threat than a wolf (both IRL and in-game). In-game, they could function as another potential attacker; tougher that a wolf but not as resilient as a bear (but faster than both). Mechanically, it could perhaps be used a means of punishing greedy players, by having a much higher chance to spawn on your location when your scent meter is full (or with chance to spawn increasing with each increment; example: 1=33%, 2=66%, 3=99%). Owl: The great grey owl (Strix nebulosa), a.k.a "phantom of the north," is one of largest and furthest ranging owl species in the world. Mechanically, I'm not sure how much this could bring to the game, but it could be great for atmosphere an immersion. The player hears an owl in the distance, then stumbles upon a rabbit run, and then sees an owl swoop down and snatch one. Additionally, this might be another viable method to punish players for greedily carrying too much meat, hide, and/or gut. Whale: Canadian coasts are inhabited by a number of different whale species. Coastal Highway and Desolation Point could have spawn locations for beached whale carcasses. Whale meat could be high in calories, and it could also yield large amounts of lamp oil when cooked. Hazards involved in harvesting would include the freezing seawater and infectious bacteria.

EricTheGreat12
Whales make no sense because we have no beaches....
Seshins
Except in desolation point and coastal highway.....
ThudYeo
With geomagnetic disturbances, whales would be beaching a LOT more frequently.
