I believe once you're in the Ravine you can live as you like just not leave the Ravine.

No I mean before we get to the ravine. Say we're trapped for a bit in a storm and don't want to stare at walls until the storm passes, can we pass time then?

I would say yes...because you're not technically sleeping.
