OK I started a thread that I thought would document my journey with the new DLC and that I would be able to keep spoiler free. Nah! So here is my new thread on the new update with all spoilers described, but hidden so you can look or ignore. I will do my best to not spoil it for anyone and will add spoiler free descriptions, in case you want to peak.
First topic: Acorns -
Acorns can be found, 1 each it appears, in the dark spots around oak trees. You need 4 acorns to make a coffee. I have yet to figure out how to make it. So let me explain. You need a heavy hammer to crush them, check I have (had) one. You need to cook them. Hmm. I cannot find a way to do this. I thought maybe they need to be dried, but dropping them does nothing to them. Once cooked, the hammer crushes them and then you make coffee. Still trying to figure this one out.
Next topic: hardened arrows -
These are easy to make, just need 5 sticks, some feathers, and a fire! I was able to kill two rabbits with them, so loving this! I can save my special arrows for larger game. When they break, you get your feathers back, so they are a great add to the game. I have not encountered a wolf yet to see if they make them run away...so will update once I do that.
Next topic: Signal Void -
So you need to head to FA to start this quest. Basically you are going to then be asked to fix a number of transmission systems, so you will need to find repair items. This includes wires, breakers, scrap metal, and a car battery. Once you open and repair it, you turn it on and wait for the aurora or Glimmer Fog to turn on you handheld shortwave radio. This has two bands, and I have not found anything with it yet. Not sure if you need the whole network up or not? After FA, need to go to MT, PV, and FM and find and fix those transmission units.
Next topic: new gear -
Question for you Tony...unrelated to the game.
How did you post multiple spoilers that didn't nest within one another? I've tried every combo I can think of and it just doesn't work for me without nesting.

Day 400
Coastal Highway - Great Bear Island
Location: Near Abandoned LookoutIt's been 400 days since this all started. I wouldn't say anything is really "easier" to sort out in my own head, but life is a bit more manageable by now.
There's really know way to know how this will all end. As each day passes, I learn more about the island, and even myself. A year ago, I was barely staying warm from the elements. Now though, I'm safe and secure, food and ammo remain the most treasured items that remain, and both continue to dwindle down.
But now I'm in search of something more. I don't know what that something is...but I'll be sure to write it here so that when my mind finally goes...I have a reference point.

- Predators have a chance to get stuck in their standing animation when prowling to "attack"
- New food items are missing their radial menu icons, display as a white X
- Field 31 Operations Memo states one of the Transmitter Tower locations is Mystery Lake. The correct location is Pleasant Valley
- In some cases, picking up the Field 31 Operations Memo and spending a lengthy amount of time reading it causes the character to be frozen in place when exiting the document.

Wait. There’s a Diary? How have I not known about this???
There are two forms of note entry locations.
The Diary is under the Log section of the main menu. At the top, there is a tab for the Daily Log, and one for Notes. For the day you have selected on the screen, you can click the Notes tab write there. It will put a little pencil in the upper left corner of the date box. Super helpful if you want to remember to go back and do something later.
There's also a General Notes section on the main menu as well. I have recently started using this to track stash houses with supplies I may want to retrieve.

Day 395
Timber Wolf Mountain - Great Bear Island
Location: Mountaineer's HutIt's night time, which means preparation for the journey ahead. I'm drawn to the east of lower Great Bear Island...and once the sun rises, I'll trek towards the Mining Tunnels.
It's been an adventurous day as I went back to Blackrock in search of the final Transmission Tower(s) in the region.
The take-home for the past few days has been pretty great, and as the stash continues to grow, hopes of surviving becomes stronger every day.
I'm headed towards Coastal Highway, and the Quanset Hut for a brief stay. Something tells me there very well might be another tower in the region.
Also...the hockey jersey...it's a terrible shame it's not a Wings jersey. But I guess the "Northern Ice" will just have to be enough.

Day 373
Pleasant Valley - Great Bear Island
Location: Pleasant Valley FarmhouseI woke from my sleep to the sound of flashing lights and the radio playing some old music. Earlier that day, I repaired a Transmitter Tower on top of Signal Hill, and immediately, I get to test this out.
This is the first time I'll get to track the signal, so I step out front and click on the radio.
The signal is strong, and as I point to the source, it gets stronger. I take several paces forward and just as soon as I began, I'm stopped dead in my tracks.
"Why the fuck is this bear glowing"...I think to myself as I quickly run back inside. In a panic, not wanting to lose the signal, I move the back of the house, step outside and once again, regain signal.
Maybe I'll fire off a round at it's head, that might deter him...but I don't have to. As I step off the porch, the bear turned and headed away from me.
I follow the signal to what appears to be a prepper's bunker, but I'm alive only because I chose to hide from the bear immediately.

Day 365
Forlorn Muskeg - Great Bear Island
Location: Near Transmitter TowerSee that fire pit? One of the first times I every truly felt like I would die was right there. I was freezing, in a panic, trying to get out of the blizzard.
The ice broke beneath me, and as I went for a dip in the frozen water, I saw the past flash before my eyes. It has been 200+ days since this incident...and a year of isolation.
I'm concerned how things aren't going to get better any time soon. I mean, how can I be the only person alive on the entirety of Great Bear? And why me?! Honestly, I just want peace.

Spoilers: if you haven't started anything at all with Signal Void...do not continue reading!
...because I read the Field 31 Operations Memo and it said a Transmitter Tower was located there. The TALES quest log...however, points to Pleasant Valley. Moral of the story? Rely on the questlog instead of the notes.

Spent the night exploring and trying to find parts for the towers. I actually backtracked back to FA in search of parts. Very much enjoying Part 2!

Jelly @Merrak!! I am so close, but need the mending skill and that is going slow. I just made a fair amount of progress on it moving from TWM to FA, so maybe in a week or two I will join you as a Skilled Survivor. Fingers crossed! This is, IMHO, the best one of bunch to get! Congrats!
The hardest for me to get (and ultimately the last) was the archery skill. I just had to commit to taking down any animals along the way to wrap it up.
You'll get there! This was my 500 day achievement character. I'm certain you'll be able to reach it soon too!

And another one! Pretty hyped about this one actually!

Day 360
Transfer Pass - Great Bear Island
Location: Vacant DepotA few days ago, I made a trek back to the Airfield. Sometime, in my eagerness to explore such this area, I had overlooked a small, handheld radio. I'm not entirely sure how it works yet, but tonight, while the Aurora remained overhead, the radio came to life.
I'm still working out the details, but after I powered up the transmitter, as the note mentioned to do, I figured I would have seen something.
But the Aurora...that's the power source. It's the reason I've seen nothing up to this point.
The note mentioned rogue transmissions. I suppose I should investigate.

I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this yet.
Acorn Coffee: Reduced Fatigue shows up after drinking, then immediately goes away. Not sure if this is intended behavior or should I bug report this?

Interesting that the Signal Void tale isn't available in Interloper, but the Prepper Caches will be included.

I used to set up safe houses in each region where I would keep supplies and other useful things at them.
I'm doing a 500 day challenge run right now and decided I needed something to do...so I opted to keep one base (Mountaineer's Hut in TWM), and transport ALL loot to that location.
It's bursting at the seams with loot now. Going to be sketching out all of the new zones soon, and I'm sure I'll be bringing a lot more back.

Inventory, then drop one... it's tedious. I decided to trust my memory
If only they let us set anything we want as a "decoy". Would be perfect for that!
I don't trust myself enough to do Inventory > Drop One...because I know how often I'm going to press the "Drop All" button. lol

Now this is an idea I've never thought of before. While Spray Paint is nice, I typically use if as point of reference (indicate a building type that lies ahead, etc). I never thought to drop tinder plugs as breadcrumbs. Is there a fast way to drop them on the move, or must you go into the inventory screen each time and click to drop one?

Welcome Coffee! I haven't had a full quartered animal disappear, but I did once have a locker of meat suddenly become empty. That was a rough day.

I hope people didn't take the day off work with the expectation of downloading and playing all day.
If you are going to do that, everyone knows you should take the day after an update off.

Selected "Seek out Acorns"...but we all know that once I get past the initial gathering phase, I'll be looking into the handheld radio and the transponder towers!

It’s now 2.30pm 30/03 and still nothing, this is why we can’t take work off to play games anymore.
Developers are not reliable they want us to defend them against the big boss making the decisions but they cant even finish their work on time? Can anyone explain this to me please.
Why cant anyone keep to their word anymore, like if i have a deadline in my business i work hard to meet that. We all crunch when we need to, what’s make devs so special?
I hate being toxic but they don’t make it easy anymore, been waiting all day now and if anything it show my passion for this industry and game.
Cheers
So...here in the states...on the east coast...it's still 3/29 for another hour and a half. It's you that is early, not them who is late. The whole post is sorta unnecessary, tbh.

Day 342
Blackrock - Great Bear Island
Location: Blackrock Prison Maintenance WorkshopSometimes, the Aurora can be quite tranquil. I stayed over night in the guard shack at the prison to recover from the trip in. Two packs of Timberwolves stalking the grounds on my path to the prison, so after I tended to my wounds, I headed to the Workshop to begin replenishing my ammunition supply. I was down to my last 20 rounds of revolver ammo, so this was a much needed stop.
I make sure to rest well before fueling the forge on the ammunition workbench. When I awoke, the twinkling lights of the drill press and all the computer systems brought such joy.
In all, the trip yielded 114 rounds of revolver ammo, and another 30 rounds for the rifle.
There's a chill in the air though, almost as though change is coming.

Getting more excited by the day for Signal Void! It's timed well enough for me that I'll get to resupply ammo and prepare for the trek tomorrow!
