Last time I got close, upper 400 hours, I fell off a dang cliff cuz my fingers were not on the right spot on the keyboard, so this was a LONG time coming for me!

I am heading back "home" to TWM now, leaving the new area with a travois FILLED with loot. Left a lot of items behind, especially the clothes, but still got so much food, meds, tools, and materials that will come in handy. I built 3 travois because I had the materials from the run and will see how hard it is to trek across the majority of the map with over a hundred kilos of loot. Thinking I might make a second main base with this loot. Starting to rethink completely how I play the game. Current philosophy is to stay alive as long as I can in a well know, mostly safe area...thus TWM. Lots of food, firewood, and well known predator patterns make it ideal for how I played in the past. Thinking second base to be in Broken Railway to allow easy access to the new areas as well as MT, ML, and BI being close. Or maybe back to ML which I have often used as a base of operations? It has 3 buildings I really like staying at so that is a definite possibility. Anyone else have multiple main bases setup?

Did anyone bring any of the new clothing items with them, or even use them in ZoC? I left all but the hockey jersey there and never used any of them.

Congratz on 500 days !!! I know it feels good - i remember when i made that milestone  and i made it on interloper after knowing the map on vayager for about 250 days so it was very rewarding.

I also remember loosing a run on day 748 going for 1200 + days (100 day in each region challenge) and it felt sooo bad.

My main base will always be Camp office in ML. i like it, it has a lot of space for stuff to put on display, rabbit and ptarmigan cave near for cabin fever if it kicks in while crafting. I know that there can be less food close by like near trappers specialy when the bear does not spawn near the fishing hut but i just really like the place. During longer runs like this i tend to travel a lot and spend time in every region so after a while i have 2ndary bases in every region stocked with food, pelts, and water. On my 1300 interloper run every base i had in every region was stocked with stuff so much it was ridiculous. Also i tend to leave food that i hunt when im traveling on the trail for future use. I tend to ravel without meat on me - when im close to starving i just kill a deer or wolf etc., eat untill im full and leave the rest. After that much time in game every where you go no matter from what direction is just loaded with stuff.

  2. Seems like a good start of the run. Great loot.

I have failed 3 NOGOA runs during this weekend but the 4th one that i have made yesterday is a lucky one. I have started in DP and found a Bedroll in the cannery AND mackinaw in the safe !! Thanks to this im warm in interiors from day 1.

The change is not dramatic but makes the first steps in Interloper a little more difficult. For example I started in Ash Canyon, managed to survive a few days but still haven't found any tool nor bedroll. Hopefully there are plenty of Cattails stalks there, but all the rabbits I catch I cannot use, unlike earlier. No big deal, but I thought Interloper was hard enough as it was :) (I am talking about the first days mainly).

I like the change in harvesting - its more "realistic" now and as said above there are plenty of cattails, washed ashore fish, human food in interiors so there is no real need to harvest a deer during those few days when you start. By day 10ish you should be forging anyway unless you have bad luck with Hammer but it easy to find IMO - you just need to fast loot a few regions on your way to the forge.

There are no tools to be found on interloper what so ever. Only craft.

I wouldnt spend more than a day in Ash canyon if i spawned there. I would go TWM -=> PV -=> CH and then if i have hammer and hacksaw -=> DP if not -=> ML if still not -=> Milton if somehow still not -=> HRV (guaranteed hammer) then back to FM to forge. The whole point in early loper is to run thru regions fast and loot loot loot.

Also after i craft bow and tools i immediately go to AC for backpack and get back via summit in TWM.

You could try regular NOGOA with healing foods. I personally don't use them, but they do make NOGOA more accessible - seems like a good middle ground between stim-only NOGOA and Interloper.

I'm not sure if you've tried insulated flasks on NOGOA but those make travelling so much less tedious, which may make the mode more appealing to players who dislike too much tedium. Of course, I plan to go torchless or at least no pulled torches in future runs to compensate for the drop in difficulty.

Havent tried the foods  - i dont use them as well. I just put the ingredients on display in my base.  But i know what they can do and You are right some of them are pretty OP in terms of Health regeneration.   Flasks i have found 7 of them on my current run but i rarely use teas on loper anyway so i didnt use them.

I will go for Vanilla NOGOA and use the flasks to my advantage. If it goes wrong during the rpocess i will consider using health regen food but only in last resort :D Dang , cant w8 to finish work.......3 hours more :D

  5. Cool stuff.    I played pure NOGOA for some time and longest run was over 100 days but had to abandon it when TFTFT update came. After that i played some loper runs but mostly Modified NOGOA with only night OR day minimal regen + no birch bark.  I only did this to be able to travel faster. Sometimes going from blackrock to FA for ex. on pure NOGOA took soooooo much time it anoyyed me a bit.

I will definately play it again.   To be honest you motivated me to abandon my current loper run before i go to ZoC and make a NOGOa one and go there :) But first i need some clothing and backpack so first 40 or so days will be looting the world and crafting after i get my food supply up and running. Then signal Void and burried echoes.     Weekend is just starting and i have nothing to do @ my house bcoz its cold and snow everywhere. Good theme to play TLD :D i wish i had the Hinterland mug so i can dring hot wine or beer during the process.

Yeah, I like to switch it up between that and not killing anything bigger than a wolf + snares only for rabbits, forged arrows only for ptarmigans. The latter rule seems to be better for the far territory zones, because I started to have inevitable food shortage in TP where I literally couldn't eat anything that spawns there.

I will have to try that next time.   Play on pure NOGOA without any health regeneration or tweak it a bit like turning minimal regen during day or night?

Went there blind on my main NOGOA run. The region was alright in terms of weather - definitely not as harsh as FA so that's a plus.

Had a bit of food issues but that was mainly because I had a self-imposed rule where I wasn't allowed to kill any non-hostile wildlife.

My main issue with the new zone seems to be the toxic wolves. Got into 4 struggles within 15 or so days spent there and didn't survive the 4th one. But I did manage to complete the 2nd tale before I died so I wasn't too salty about losing the run.

NOGOA plus only killing wolves, bear moose. We like to suffer ey?

    Congratz on finishing.

I've not seen a difference with the new wolves and torches, compared to the "normal" wolves.  I've been wandering around the new region in my Interloper run carrying a lit torch when I can, and all of my wolf interactions have been predictable.  If I'm not encumbered, I just walk toward the new wolves with a lit torch and they flee.  I had one struggle while carrying a torch when I came around a tight corner and ran into a wolf, but that's expected when suddenly being that close to the wolf.

That only works if you are not "weak" am i right? If weak even with torch the wolves can and will attack you.

  9. Seems like a nice start with the bear an all.

Im about to go there with my new interloper run i made after the update (i abandoned my last runs bcoz of the fact scurvy is not working on them). I think today is the day. I have looted all of the great bear, collected all recpies and uniqe items and completed signal void. Im going in there blind tho bcoz i want the thrill of not knowing the terrain. I saw just a few minutes of Zaknafeins video when he got killed by wolves but that is it.

After i finish the tale i will create new main run NOGOA style but with minimal night regeneration and try to finish the tales on super hard dificulty.

  10. Since i got back from my holiday i started a new loper run to check scurvy out bcoz i was mad at the fact that it was not implemented in old saves.

The purpouse of this run was to see what scurvy is and how difficult is to keep it at bay.

I decided i will not consume human food, not pick up rosehips, reishi. Only birch and cattails (on the start). Around day 30 i got back from Ash Canyon Gold mine with backpack and summit with the loot to my main base in ML camp office. I stayed there and crafted clothes till about day 50. Around day 60 scurvy first kicked in. I ate some cattails and it was gone but the next day i woke up it came back again with 8 % risk. I decided to read one fishing book to get lvl 2 and went to fishing cabin to fish a bit. I was able to catch a few of the whites and a few of bass and it took me ~30 hours in game (i fish only with normal fishing tackle - dont use bait or better lures - from my experience fishing you catch more with just normal tackle). So when i was fishing i was eating fish and the rest i brought back to ML camp office enterance and stored it there. After that i went to FA to start the tale. I stayed in Broken rairoad for about a week and a week in FA - when i was going back to main base scrurvy risk came. Again i got back to ML camp office - cooked some bass and some whites, ate them for two days and went exploring BI. Every time i do this i can be safe from scurvy for about 2 ingame weeks - if i eat fish in the meantime the timeline streches.

My run is currently 230 days long. I have looted all regions thoroughly except - ZOC havent been there yet and HRV  i have looted only a small part for the cooking recipe and prepper bunker.

Found all cooking recpies, found spelunken lantern, Found 7 insulated flasks, done Signal Void, Made one huge main base in ML camp office and secondary base in Coastal Highway Jackrabbit Island - both loaded.

Every now and then - if i feel like it or a blizzard hits i go to a fishing hut to fish some and drink a beer in the process. I stay there for 3 days and night sometimes more and catch fish. Later i use the travois to take the catch to my base/ or where i really want it but usually my meat supply outside of the base. I tend to have every meat kind always at my base.

So imho the scurvy thing is a nice addition to the game changing strategy a bit but it is very very easily contained and cured if must. I have yet to discover what it does if untreated but i will come to that eventually. Also i dont think that rosehips tea or any tea that has vit C is a good way to counter scurvy - its just not enough weight/callories. To be able to combat scurvy you would have to drink several teas every day i think. Pain.

    Other observations :

Fish types - the amount of vit C in them vary. At first i thought that cooked fish looses some of vit C in the process but yesterday i made some science and its not the case. The case is - the longer cooked fish stays and looses condition in time it will go from for ex. Moderate vit C to Minor vit C - i have still to check if uncooked fish loose vit C potency as well as they decay.

Also sometimes same type of fish will have Moderate vit C and other Minor vit C ..... strange.

I also think that it doesnt count as one unit of vit C consumed with one fish - like Moderate vit C fish and Minor Vit C fish after eating will give one unit of moderate or one unit of minor. I think it depends on the weight of the fish. So its better to consume 5kgs of moderate vit C fish than 2x 1,5 kg of moderate vit C fish.

Last thing - New types of fish doesnt seem to have vit C in it or maybe it just does not show - i will have to w8 for scurvy risk and then cook some of the new types to see if it works as well.

  11. Okay it seems they are 8 of them total including the jackrabbit ones. They locations are fixed as weel but in most regions there are several locations you can find them in. They are easy to find - not like some recipes.  I had no problem finding them while i was exploring the regions.

Atm im missing the ZoC one - still havent been there. It will be the last one to my collection - i have 7 atm. Shame they loose condition when put out on display. I dont use them tbh.

The Regions you find them are

    Spoiler

Milton - The jack Rabbit one

    Desolation Point

    Bleak Inlet

    Pleasant Valley

    Timberwolf Mountain

    Blackrock

    Forsaken Airfield

    Zone of Contamination

And there is a small chance you will find additional one in a safe - very rare.

Interesting that several people have said it does and others said it does not. All I know is I killed a bear, slapped all the parts into a travois, and started hauling it from the kill near the hunter's blind in BR to the maintenance yard. There was a wolf quite a distance away and he made a bee line to me. Coincidence? Maybe? But I have that one data point and have read on reddit and other places that others have experienced the same. I am on ML now so I will do some fishing runs with the travois and see what happens and report back. Seems to me this would be an unusual benefit the devs tosses into the game and would be less realistic, but I am down for being proven incorrect!!

Two travois make life so much better when hauling over long distances, especially where you have an impasse. You can haul more, faster, using fewer resources and with less jeopardy than hauling without them.

I did haul fish several Times from ml fishing huts to camp office and never attracted the wolves with it.

I never did haul meat bags tho.... maybe meat bags produce scent? Ill try that out.

This has always been the case.  The hacksaw harvests frozen meat faster than the knife.  The knife might always be faster at harvesting level 5, I can't remember.  Even when thawed, harvesting with the hacksaw just takes a few minutes longer than the knife.  I almost always use the hacksaw for meat since it's easier to repair, especially when I'm low on whetstones.

I knew that it was the case before but I have a strange feeling the diffrence on lower lvl of skill is bigger than it was before. Maybe im wrong tho and its just a feeling.

  14. I think they changed how harvesting works now - You cant harvest meat by hand. Only skin.

Now you have to have a tool to be able to harvest animals for food.

Also now you have to w8 for the carcass to freeze to harvest it with hacksaw otherwise it takes a lot of more time and you have to use the knife for thawed animal.

  15. Couldnt find the correct thread about thermos health so ill put it here.

The termos does actually loose condition when unused.

I have put mine on display and I have noticed it looses 1% condition by just sitting there. It takes about 2-3ingame weeks but I have confirmed it does. I have put it in storage container to see if it will degrade as well.

That is obviously not intended right @Admin ¿?

  16. Hmm. We can make improvised, IMPROVISED crafting like arrowheads, knife and hatchet, led for ammunition using the tools we have and the knowledge. I doubt someone could make the casings tho. Not in the conditions we have in game.
