  1. @NievMy main goal, having made a post like your OP in my past was to suggest taking a step back.  It's obvious to me you really enjoyed the game and wanted to keep going, but couldn't justify continuing.  I have been there with this game and others.  If I were to have just said "ok time for a new thing for a bit" and still felt like I wanted to let devs and others hear my thoughts after a couple days, I might have started with :

    Quote

Niev: given the sheer quality of the game I would like it to be a whole book series that I could read for months and months on end, instead of a fleeting pleasure :)

As for the features themselves that I feel are missing, and trying to narrow down the list as much as possible to give concise feedback to the devs about what stood out the most to me while playing (technically and content wise):

Inability to hop over very small obstacles and generally clunky movement, when I'm carrying 30 kg of stuff I expect to be slow and clunky but that's all the time, encumberance actually plays less of a factor than in games like Skyrim, which is crazy

Absence of physics and related baggage (can't carry stuff dynamically, strange collision detection, invisible slopes spraining you, can't personalize spaces or move furniture)

Limited interactivity and unusable resources that are nonethless available but "static", no curing meat, lack of very basic and realistic building, things you would do given the time and expertise in an apocalypse

Little variety in items, no brands or qualities outside of %numbers, nothing ever surprises you after a couple hours of gameplay, looting becomes tedious

Wonky AI that can break immersion and be exploited easily

Auroras are impressive and unique in all their features, expand on them! maybe make them the key to getting electricity back in some places, make them more useful and exciting occasions

I'm no expert in canadian wildlife, but shouldn't there be a couple extra animals? birds, insects, surviving dogs maybe?

And that's mostly it I think ,these are the things that make me leave the game after a couple hours even with its beautiful atmosphere and immersion, this game needs a bit of fleshing out IMHO and after that it could easily become a real masterpiece, something you could easily sell at full price and keep thousands of players happy for years, and that's all, I'll come back in time for the next update and have fun again.. till it lasts :D

Not in any way saying your OP isn't valid, however I would say it's unlikely to get the attention of the devs, or have the best chance at engaging other players. I think you have valid points here, and this is by no means a demand... I suggest getting something like what you wrote above into a new thread with a different title, and also throw a link in your OP directing people to the new thread.  It might be worth a fresh start.  just my two cents nothing more.

  2. I think I would enjoy a similar custom setting.  I don't tend to play interloper due to the weather getting in the way of my goals too often.  Interloper does it's job and I'm sure plenty like that sort of challenge, but I like to sit down with a goal in mind and get it done.  On interloper I'm forced to consistently end the day (or play session) having done nothing of note, or not what I wanted to.  Stalker can throw a wrench in your plans as well but at a much more reasonable rate for my liking.  Some mixture between stalker and interloper is where I'm headed for sure.

  3. There can be multiple possible locations for the moose to spawn in each region.  The spawn point where it could spawn is denoted by a rubbed off tree trunk.  Only one moose exists in the entire world at a time but will change to a different possible (possible spawns determined on first game load) spawn location after a certain amount of time.

[stuff] has to look neat and organized. EG Flares in a single row laying vertically. Also one item category per shelf, EG, if one shelf is food and drinks then nothing else will go on that shelf.

This.  Also I keep a detailed journal of where said perfectly displayed items are. :)

So I have found. I am at the peak right now.

Hilariously, I was actually in the tail of the plane when I realized that the cargo containers each have TWO (2) parts. I have only looted one of each elsewhere. At least I noticed without having to climb all the way back up first. LOL

    Love this game.

HAH! I know the pain there.  I often go quite some time between runs (to grieve mostly) and I did that exact move in my current run...  Put me behind schedule to get each region explored in 5 days or less.  I made up the time in other areas but I felt a little salty having to revisit the containers :D

  6. @NievOP You have arrived at your first "I accomplished what I wanted" moment.  It's ok to put the game down until something sparks you to fire it up again.  I have gone years between starting a game or continuing a run.  Concurrent players may be a metric of concern for an online game that needs players to make it work, but TLD is more like a book that catches your eye after potentially years on the shelf.  Imaginings of what could be in the game are enticing, but the lack of which shouldn't be considered "problems".  No matter the mechanics or content added you will always reach a point where you say "I'm done for now".  It's ok. :)

Very organized and well done here! I probably should try to mark the journal if I leave stuff somewhere, which I'm trying to do while playing as to not encumber myself anymore

It didn't start organized i can tell you.  It evolved over the course of the run until I decided it was only really useful if it was complete and accurate.  So it was make it a habit to add and remove items as I went or not have it at all.  The benefit of knowing what's where has had the positive effect of keeping me very mobile, not just sticking to one spot after I looted the world.  I have little missions to do all the time.  Even if it's just "that place needs a hatchet", or "i need a stash of food for a week there".  Keeps things fresh for me, instead of counting days. :)

  8. It's always shocking when a run comes crashing down around you seemingly from the ether.

I have many deaths many different ways but I will share a not death that should have been instead.

I was on day somewhere north of 200.  I have camps all over the place with enough stores to keep me kicking for thousands of days.  Frolicking through PV I think I've surmounted all obstacles.  I'm headed back to the farmhouse through the grove like sticks around the farm.  I catch a bear out of the corner of my eye.  "I'll take this guy out and have a real supper tonight" I says to myself.  Crouched and at some distance, bow drawn, I feel invincible.  The expected panic and retreat never came and he comes barreling back at me.  Never expecting to need to retreat myself I was nowhere near a safe refuge.  All I could see was the spindly black twig/tree things around the farmhouse.  So I decided to dance with the beast instead.  Pistol drawn we began to revolve around the insignificant physics object... one after another 6 explosions into its angry face.  Finally whatever initial edge my substantial grace may have allowed, I was pummeled into the dirt.  Furious that this wretch dare challenge my authority, I would surely drop him swiftly as he sauntered away.  The expected victory turned to horror as death came with fury back with...fury.  Thus comes to an end... but wait!  With the smallest sliver of vitality wrestled from the literal (not really) jaws of death walk I.  To continue the story of my longest journey into the eventual long dark.

Crossing the log bridge in the Raven Falls Ravine.  My cat jumped up in my lap and jostled my mouse hand.  I looked down at the cat, and by the time I looked back up at the screen I realized I had actually walked off the bridge.  I was a little confused at what I was seeing at first, and by the time I realized I was falling I didn't have enough reaction time to process the thought "Hit Esc, quit game!"  So, splat.  (Normally I believe in owning up to the consequences of your actions, but unwanted feline intervention warrants a pass.)

This was my first thought, but you already have exactly experienced one of my deaths... I raised my voice at my cat :(

My first voyage into forlorn I was apprehensive already hearing of the horror that awaited me.  I pushed along an unfamiliar coast with little in the way of provisions.  I had survived 130 days after all, what could touch me now?  A dense fog rolled in coupled with an unrelenting chill.  All I had was a few sticks so I started a fire behind a log.  With the fire burned out and no idea where i was, retreat was not an option for some reason.  Oh it was dusk now by the way...the best time for frozen disoriented groping in the fog filled darkness.  I walked along the bank cautiously and heard a bark to my left!  Run into the abyss I thought.  Onto some Ice around a rock I thought. I shall make a desperate run to safety, cracking ice beneath my feet.  Surely there is a solid bit of ground out there... No I fell through the ice.  After surfacing I searched blindly for the sweet ground I had left.  Only to be tackled and ravaged by the furry jerk that had sunk me to begin with.

  10. The moose has spawns in most of the regions, but only spawns 1 in a random region at a time.  So you could see it in ML and the next day it is in TM.  So it could be back in ML in a couple days, or be in any of the other possible spawns that day.  It's a take it now if you want it kind of thing.  I never hunt for one, just take the opportunity if I'm able.  I'm in late game stalker now so I have a rifle near all spawns so I can bag one if I happen to be in the area.

  11. TM is not quite as daunting as it may seem at first.  Like any new region you need to crawl before you run.  Make sure you have a fall back you can go as you get the lay of the land.  Find a new base to operate from and grow from there.  If you tackled HRV you shouldn't have a problem with TM.  For me TM was much easier to first time navigate and the weather was better as well.  That alien feeling in a new region is one of the best the game has to offer.  Enjoy :)

  12. random for me.  If I am close to TM i go for the summit asap.  If not I try to spend no more than 5 days in each region to completely loot the world.  This doesn't always happen but it's the goal weather dependent.

After many runs you really get a hold of what you really need to survive and what can be done as needed.  Early game is all about movement not settling down so I just eat what I find and move on until I have loot piles all over the world, then consolidate into at least one (usually 2 or more) base(s) in each region.

It's all a cumulative process.  Each run's lessons influence the next, as goals shift so does the strategy.  I started barely moving between trappers homestead and camp office, to eventually looting the world in the time it took to do ML.  I'm sure my next run will be different again :)

  13. I also avoided TM for a long time thinking it was some end game stuff... turns out its just a nice map.  One of my favorites in fact.  It seems like TM should have been an end game location, but instead is one of the early game ones :)  Been playing since ML was the only map, and took a while before I got up the courage to venture out of it's safe borders... a bit of a let down when I finally triumphed over timberwolf's peak.  I would be cool with timberwolves being in BI and TM and it would make TM spawn a whole different affair.

  14. I can only say its the place where a wolf attacks you and you immediately run into a second that finishes you off.  Aside from Timberwolves, all you need to do is not get too close to them and continue on your way.  Don't point a weapon at them and they will just wander around behind you to your destination.  What you have to worry about is getting in a tussle with one and then angrily storming off into another one and watching your run end :)
