I don't really see any problems with the wolves... so I'm not sure what you are on about.

I think they should remove the wolf sillyness :D See my other thread in the wish list, I have replyed.

... so if I interpret this correctly, your suggestion about "improving" the game is to make it easier?
I just can't agree with you on this.

You might find you can achieve some your personal preferences with custom settings.

I dont think so. Because the DEVs can take away other stuff to make it equally hard as it is right now. I think they just need to make them so wolfs are a little bit more scared of light sources and dont follow you on an entire map, just to remove the sillyness out of the game. But, I dont know for sure if it would make it easier. I think tough they should remove the "wolf-sillyness" :D Wolfs are extremly terrified of flares IRL. So make them very scared of flares in the game in-return for maybe less chance to find flares ?:) just a suggestion. A balance that I'll think will work in theory, but maybe not in practice? So it needs to be tested. so maybe it is a dangerous thing to do, to adjust such things.

EDIT: Maybe fix the wolf-sillyness, and then add cougars?;) Then we will have a fine balance, but a harder game :D

  3. Alcohol for rinsing wounds, thats it. Can take a small taste from the whiskey but will take a little bit HP off. But it will give + boost on awareness, thirst and warmth. After the buff is gone, you will get a hangover and be more tierd than before you drank that whiskey. So alcohol gives you a + boost, but a hangover after and it clean wounds. So maybe a taste if you run out of buffs just to run inside a house and lay down in a bed to recover.

  4. Will it be a christmas event for the game as we approach the season? I'm thinking if there is a "secret" file in the game that activates itself when the date on the computer shows closer to Christmas Eve.

I imagine broken christmas lights around the rooftops. Curved Christmas tree inside some of the houses, with Christmas decorations on and Christmas presents under the tree you can pack up and find toys .. Also that it is possible to collect, for example, a Christmas hat to add to some collection.

Maybe an *achievement where you have to find Santa's hat, and it can be anywhere in the game in a random place anywhere on all the maps. And there is only one of those hats. Imagine how awesome this would have been.

Maybe make this as a christmas challenge in the game? "Find Santas Hat". And that is where all the christmas stuff is :D

  5. I tried the game theHunter: call of the wild, today via steam. I wanted a hunting game where you can collect trophies and see killed rare animals you have collected. I couldn't make myself like theHunter because it was too arcade-like. For example, you have endless stamina when you run. You lose 0 HP when you jump from high heights. You do not need sleep, food or drink. All you are is a killing machine. You run around with your weapon and pew pew, money or trophy, rinse and repeat. The game seems very superficial. At least the game has good graphics and sound. But everything else is devastating to the game, so much so that I had to get a refound.

This got me thinking, The long dark has all the elements you need to have a challenging hunting experience. You need sleep, food, shelter, warmth and good clothes. Animals can be very dangerous if you are not good with your weapons and strategy.

And this made me think even more. *We need the Trophy Room in The Long Dark for those who want to preserve the memories of the hunt, and brag to the rest of the TDL community. I hope they can make something for both animals and fish. + Add online hunt scoreboard, if possible.

Was this a one time thing... or is it something fairly consistent that can be reproduced?

It would probably be best for you to submit a ticket on the support portal.  There is a link on the main page but I will include it here as well for convenience:

I just think it would feel really out of place in the Survival Sandbox and I don't think I would enjoy it.  When I want that kind of experience I play games that are centered around that kind of thing.  It's not a bad idea per se (I'm not trying to say that), it's just not one I don't think I would enjoy in this game's survival mode.

    Yes, I understand :D

Well in story mode specifically... it's narrative driven.  Which is a little bit different... that's what I was referring to when I was talking about when I referred to those elements that are present, but just additive to the Story Mode experience.  A character like Methuselah for instance, it's left pretty ambiguous.  It might be a hallucination, might be a "spirit" of some kind, might just be an old man who's just surprisingly robust and really really observant.  :D

So in side the frame work of the Story Aspect, yeah something like that is a lot easier to weave in without it feeling... out of place.  I guess I was thinking about it in terms of Survival Mode... which I suppose is my fault for making that assumption.

Would you live with this?: You walk into a house in survival mode. You see a chair. You walk into another room, then you walk back to the previous room where the chair was, but there chair has been moved(happends rarely) but because of your memory, you can not remember exactly if the chair has been moved :D

There are a few of those around in these forums... I'd say test out your challenge idea and let us know how fun it was for you.

I have another personal challenge in mind as well, but I'm not going to mention anything about it here until I'm ready to try it out.

    indeed! :)

Maybe, but for me this is not an overtly supernatural or horror rooted game...  some elements are arguable as such of course, but to me it's not part of the central theme (if you know what I mean).  Considering the wildlife can already achieve this kind of effect organically, I'm not sure I'd like having it artificially inserted into the experience.

What did you think about all the mystery in story mode? Is that something you would like in challenge and survival mode, but just calmed down a little ? Yes the wildlife now adds that mystery effect to a degree for me right now, but I was hoping for a little bit more - just a little "hint" of mystery :D

And I can't tell you how many times a rabbit was nearly shot for no good reason at all.  :D
(never pulled the trigger... but damn if those rabbits didn't almost lose their life for accidently jump scaring me)

What if they added a man holding a lantern in the woods, just standing there looking at you for 5 seconds, 1000 or so meters away from you. Peripheral vision "ghost", not a real ghost, but adds the mystery effect :D

You should check out the one region challenge.

Yes those are good challenges, but it would have been fun to have a challenge that you can not enter a shelter(house, cars etc)
