Hmmm... perhaps the bolt cutters could instead function more similarly to the pry bar...
There was a glitch when Bleak Inlet was originally released.... the locker inside the Radio Control Hut required Bolt Cutters to open. You could not open it with a prybar. So the logic of requiring a specific tool (e.g., bolt cutters, hacksaw, or prybar) to open an object is already in the code.
The Long Dark Hotfixed to V1.69 [57923] [Gameplay] Medical Locker in Bleak Inlet’s Radio Tower no longer needs Bolt Cutters.

...about the hacksaw not being strong/sharp enough to cut through the chain - that only this bolt cutter can.
There are many scenarios where a hacksaw would not be able to access the item you're trying to cut with a "sawing" motion but bolt cutters would readily fit into the space.

+1
And the added weight would make them inconvenient to carry around unnecessarily. When needed, you may have to travel multiple regions to get the bolt cutters and bring them to the spot which you plan to use them.

What I would like to see is the ability to add a stone to the top of the cairn.
That would be ideal! Simple, elegant, and uses a readily available item.

I wish the list of cairns were sorted by region in the journal, so I would know when I’ve found all the cairns in a given region.
When I originally went through the effort to find all the cairns, not knowing which region the few remaining cairns were located in was the most frustrating. Had to travers all regions over and over, looking in the nooks and crannies of each map. Cannot tell you how relived I was when I finally found the 165th cairn 🙂
Listing by region would be very helpful...

I have seen the bear at the Foreman's Retreat only once. Previously it was as regular as clockwork every 13-14 days after being killed... All of this could just be the random effect, but it makes me wonder if there have been a few changes since AC was initially released.
I'm thinking random effect... for me, the bear is always hanging around Miner's Folly / Foreman's Retreat... if not, I see it
sleeping in its cave NNW of the two locations

You must first deploy it from above (Runaway Bridge area)... have you already found the other rope climb to the Runaway Bridge?
-
I had to go back and confirm. The rope is not deployed by default. You must first deploy it from above (Runaway Bridge area).

I think a lot of "new" players refer to the world map for overall orientation... for example, using the rail tracks of the world map as a guide, a new player can see that FM is east of BR and west of ML. However, since the sun travels "backward" in BR and ML, it only leads to confusion for the new players when they are first exploring those two regions.

Thank you Raph for taking time to comment. Looking forward to future Survival updates and possibly paid DLCs.

Is it enabled under accessibility? I think by default it is set to "off".

...Love the huge mountain behind...
The slope looks as if it's possible to walk straight to the top and enjoy the view directly into the prison yard! Can't wait!

When players try to check-off all the cairns do they use a table of cairns and their position?
When I first searched and found them all, there was no "table of cairns and their position" to check-off or to locate the cairns. Had to hunt all 165 of them down... took several months of crisscrossing the same terrain over and over and over, climbing every climbable rook and hill, peeking in every nook and cranny. I then passed the locations on to Gecko and he placed location markers on the maps found in his Travel Guide.

I think snowshoes would be a valuable addition to the game if they allowed the player to walk across weak ice without falling through. The downside would be extreme mobility penalties (unable to run).
In the future, there could be areas of the maps covered in deep powered snow and only accessible when wearing snowshoes.... if the player enters the area while not wearing snowshoes, the player sinks waist deep in the snow and becomes exhausted as they try moving forward. This would allow specific areas of maps to be entered only after the player has crafted or found snowshoes.

Possibly ended up on the other side of the mountain range to the SE of Crystal Lake. Looking at the area as it appears on the Great Bear Island map, it could be a new region east of Pleasant Valley / Coastal Highway and north of Desolation Point.
