  1. please for the love of rabbits someone make these mods:

    - peer through/open house windows to see weather outside (or somehow just click on it like opening a door but all it does is report the weather in a UI text)

    - construct simple wooden boxes or "improvised cabinets" or even shelves from reclaimed wood and place them wherever (there used to be a mod where you can fix broken cabinets so maybe use that as a building block? Household something?)

    - transport via inventory small plastic and metal containers (they are placeable with another mod, but not transportable)

  2. I don't think this is a fixable bug per se, so I'm putting this here. I recall there being a known issue regarding animal respawns, and I think I'm SOL, but here goes anyway.

Almost three years in-game on Pilgrim (not custom) on my oldest save. Mostly I'm in ML at the Camp Office, but my backup has always been Trapper's, with other main bases in CH and now Bleak Inlet, and rotate between those three.

Trapper's has been a desert from nearly the beginning of the save, after all animals were hunted (bear and moose included).

All other areas of ML repopulate with all animals no problem. Wolves everywhere, deer in all other places, rabbits too. Except for Trapper's.

It took a looong time, but finally there's one (1) rabbit respawned by the bear cave near Trapper's. But no bear, and no moose. No deer either. I find it so odd that this one particular patch of the zone would be desolate.

If anyone has any insight, I'd appreciate it. Maybe there's a console command that resets animal spawn timers. Maybe there's some trick people have figured out. I don't think the issue is too much time spent in ML, though that is my base 75% of the time. I'd spend days on end in other places and come back to Trapper's, hoping... not nah.

Thankfully I can still hunt bear in FM, and I don't usually bother with moose anymore (I have a cloak and a bag). But I miss my animal friends outside Trapper's. It's lonely without them. 😄

from our own @ajb1978 on the Steam forum:

Aurora wolves have about double the detection range of regular wolves. They will notice you from much farther away and begin stalking you. I haven't noticed a difference in their detection rate if you're crouched, so it seems to be only if you're walking/sprinting.

Also, they seem to have more health than a regular wolf, and do more damage in a fight. Although that could be simple bad luck--I tend to avoid fights.

The flashlight will keep them at bay if you use the bright setting, but they will just stay just outside of pounce range, and you have to keep the flashlight trained on them. I heard it was supposed to scare them off, but that's never happened to me. They just wait patiently for the battery to run out, then pounce.

do you guys have any tips on how to deal with blizzards without having to resort to a snow shelter?

in terms of preparing for a blizzard or dense fog, in reality, you'd craft blizzard lines around your base. Take the Camp Office  and Mystery Lake for example. the railroad and its power line that extends to the Camp Office act like a blizzard line. You'd be able to create similar blizzard lines anywhere you can hammer in a stake/pole and run rope/cable. in lieu of that actual mechanic, I've laid out a breadcrumb trail for myself of charcoal/tinder plugs/etc. Now, you also have the option of spray painting arrows. So since my base is Camp Office, I've set up guides for myself in case I get lost on or around the lake.

in terms of the sudden onset of fog/blizzard, with no trail set up, I just walk in a straight line hoping I find what I'm looking for (hoping I don't get turned around), then find any kind of shelter to duck behind where I can craft a fire and just wait it out. places like Pleasant Valley, the space between the house and the farm, is my worst enemy in terms of getting lost in fog.

my introduction to heavy fog was the final interaction with The Bear in story mode....... 😬

Placing objects. I think many players would appreciate this. Just like with the lantern and the bedroll I would love to be able to place objects where I want them. Going out for a scavenge run and coming back with an extra rifle or cans of food It would be a awesome to be able to stock up my shelves. Having them inside containers is fine but think this would really be a nice addition for us that want to create a nice home in the darkness.

    I don't know what you mean.... 😆

(Pilgrim mode is great for relaxing, organizing, pretending you're running a general store... lmao.)

  6. My wolf respawn time in ML at the camp office is insane on Pilgrim. like every few days it seems lol. I don't need any more skins/guts so I just harvest the meat now, hoping that helps them stay around longer on the map and lengthening respawn times. I'll try to remember to leave some meat behind now.

I only kill them so they don't eat my deer, which I'm conserving at the lake 😅

Hey did some messing about on this; it looks like the state is not updating until you equip the crampons, and then they show the new wetness value.

If someone else can test to see if that seems to be the case, that'd be awesome; it would allow a bug report that would probably allow them to home right in on the software issue that's causing this.

Confirmed! I put on the crampons and their wetness diminished almost immediately.

@stratvox why don't you go ahead and report the bug since you noticed it :)

  8. I think they're bugged. Mine have been 6% wet for days now, inside sitting on a table lol. to test, i sat them on the floor next to a stove and lit a fire for an hour. no change. I'm going to report it as bugged.

I'm playing an existing Interloper save, currently located in Desolation Point.  I found a paint can in the Broken Bridge car, and another paint can by a window in the lighthouse.  I haven't ventured farther than that yet, but I expect the Polaroids will be out there.

Somewhat annoyed that I"ll have to search basically everywhere to get cans in my current long-game save. oh well. have jerky will travel...

Hmm, I feel like rock caches will make "cave dwellings" more convenient too... :)

I've been wanting this forever. I've been actually wanting snow caches, but I just pretend meat on the snow is in a snow cache. In reality animals would steal that meat, but snow caches can be sealed with a layer of ice (and broken open with an axe). Rock caches are good enough, for now.
